CannonFire's problem is he'll call others "a blind homer, a child, passive aggressive, ect" just because we don't agree with his perspective about Mayfield.

I could see him disappearing like MJW last year if Mayfield gets off to a record start.

Well. I kind of speculated before that there may be protection in the CBA for teams if they sign a player to guaranteed money, but they never actually show up. If they cut him too early maybe they have no recourse?
We haven't paid him anything yet apparently. We could void the deal but I imagine NFLPA wouldn't be too fond of that.

It definitely is a matter of perspective. You see last year and look at it with a pie in the sky attitude where you hope, that things will work out. I see it logically as we squeaked into the playoffs because 1, we had a soft schedule, 2, we got lucky with an easy division, and 3, we were fortunate to play a first round opponent who that quit on their coaches (whom, by they way, got fired in the off season). If you think that's the path to regular success, I'm going to need a lot more examples because I can give you a lot of examples of teams that won 10+ (11+ now with 17-game seasons), games with regular success.

Does he give us a change? No, I don't think he does. I think he's severely limited as a QB and does NOT have the ability to win us 10+ games regularly and be championship contenders. Do I think there's a chance that with a lot of things going our way (see last year), where we can step into a playoff win or 2? Sure... but I'm not banking on that, nor am I willing to agree with the team pumping $50 to $110M into a player to do that.

In order for you to have a perspective to use your theory you would have had to own the team.
Not sure I follow. Everything I said was based on what happened to the team last year and what historically has happened in the NFL.

Sure thing. I have no problem pretending that Mayfield is not a below average qb, like many here (apparently). I was just under the assumption that the message board was a place where we could be objective. Guess not.

My original point was I think it was Joel Glazer who was really excited about Mayfield in the play-off win, so it seems to me it was what he wanted and it played out in the draft. And we can't change it.

He might of even been around to pat Mayfield on the shoulder when he came in for the play-off loss to the Lions.

This scenario runs 100 times. How many times do Tom Brady or Pat Mahomes turn the ball over? Aaron Rodgers? Big Ben?

Baker Mayfield is not a great QB because he makes a turnover on those 100 drives significantly more often than those great QBs would.

That was a terribly read play and sucks to watch.

Thankfully this is exactly the type of question that stats and data can answer, instead of relying on hyperbole. Let's take Brady and Mahomes as comparisons to Baker, since they are the greatest to ever do it and the greatest currently playing respectively and you named them specifically.

Guess what Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes career interception percentages are. Interestingly they are tied, at 1.8% of their total throws.

Guess what Baker's interception percentage was with the Bucs last season. If you guessed an equivalent 1.8%, come up and collect your prize.

Your point would have a point if the facts backed it up. And yet, here we are.

---

Just for funsies, Jameis Winston's career interception percentage is 3.4%.

Tom Brady’s Patriots’ career ended with a playoff game pick-6, so it’s happened at least once. Lucky for us they thought he was done after that.

Can't we suspend him for conduct detrimental...which, hopefully, would void any/all guarantees?

Let's hope it doesn't come to this but, without knowing the language in a standard or specific NFL contract, I'd think a team would have a pretty good case to void a deal in which he ghosts a team in TC.

I am pretty sure the entire Randy Gregory issue is with the NFL itself and not the Buccaneers. It will be interesting to see the outcome of his lawsuit.

He's no showing at work. The why doesn't matter, unless he has absolutely no way to communicate with his employer.

And if it is because he's suing the league the. he needs to ask the Bucs to void his contract.

Hindsight and perception is everything. In the second half against the Packers in the NFCCG Brady turned it over multiple times and could hardly move the ball at all. Our defense bailed us out again and again. Quite a different story if they get some points off those turnovers.

Taking one play like this and making a career referendum is not the way to evaluate football.

Change the x in the URL to twitter. Leave everything else the same. My guess is that the host for this message board has not updated the embed protocols for the change from Twitter to X. That, or the code needs to be changed by the Admin(s) of this board.
