Or the Chiefs in '23-'24. Vs. this season. you can win them for awhile, assuming you have a really good-great defense, but eventually offensive inefficiencies will come back and bite you in the ass, and it doesn't matter what the logo is on the side of your helmet.
The Vikings went 13-4 and their point differential was -3. Ours is currently 3. Nearly impossible to have both good offensive and defensive units with a point differential that close.

I'm not sure how we're comparing this team to one that made 2 Superbowls in that time frame. But our offense is still a work in progress. 1st time we scored more than 23 points on offense this season.Phantom wrote: ↑Mon Oct 06, 2025 7:56 pmThe 2023-2024 Chiefs offense was not as good as the Bucs’ offense now. Yeah, Pat was a big part of it. I could get super specific about how those seasons unfolded, but not right now, with MNF about to start.
But the '23 season was really all about Spags and the defense. They bailed pat out countless times that season and in the playoffs, including the SB. Without Spags, KC never even makes it to the SB, and probably lose that SB. And just a sidenote, the STs under coach Toub brought their A game that year, and the previous one. STs are so important to being successful in the playoffs, which is why I'm really getting concerned about our STs right now.
Anyway, MNF about to start, so I'll get back to this if necessary later.

Re: MVP: Baker Mayfield
Are you sure about that?
Re: MVP: Baker Mayfield
Indeed, special teams and defense are very important, especially in the playoffs. I don’t think the Bucs will make a deep playoff run if those areas haven’t improved.Sooner06 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 06, 2025 8:07 pm

Really interesting watch:
We're paying the price for a half-measure taken by The Union 160 years ago.
The New Union will correct that mistake.

Thx for posting!
JTS is a great watch/listen. Always gives you more info than you actually needed to understand the play. And the level of understanding, because he was an NFL QB, is just so much more nuanced than anything you can get from most internet 'analysts.'
another good one to watch is Chase Daniel. Pretty sure I posted this one before, but just in case:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PuXCdd8Ic4
hoping Kurt Warner posts one soon, because you tend to get even more gradation from SB winner and HoF Kurt Warner.
Oh, and just fyi: that bomb to Mek @22:54 in the clip? That throw was 61 air yards. So much for "Baker doesn't have a strong arm . . ."
Re: MVP: Baker Mayfield
Who says Baker doesn’t have a strong arm?
This was debunked before he even entered the league. I’ve posted this stat here, at least 5 times:
Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen were the only two QBs at the combine to throw it over 60 mph.
Baker was like 1 mph behind Allen, who is frequently lauded as an inner circle arm talent.

I've never seen anything doubting his arm. I doubt this is something you personally believed was said about Baker. But if you saw it anywhere I'd be curious to see who said it.Snake wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 8:05 pm Who says Baker doesn’t have a strong arm?

His arm was literally what put him ahead of the other QBs in that draft class. Rosen was the one seen with the weak arm.

Didn't memorize the handle(s), but it's been repeated here, iirc. ditto the usual myths about Baker, like "he's just a PA QB," which just cracks me up because he began playing QB as a shotgun/air raid QB @OU (part of the reason he's so comfortable in 2-minute/hurry up). he learned to play under center under Stefanski. Well, a little from Todd Haley as a rook, but mostly from Stefanski.

Re: MVP: Baker Mayfield
I thought Baker was just in the zone and Hawks secondary was just beat up/trash, leading to an amazing day by him.
While some of that may have factored in, Kurt Warner's breakdown sheds light on absolute machine mode Baker was both intellectually and athletically.

Re: MVP: Baker Mayfield
Football is overwhelmingly about situations and rising to the occasion in the highest magnitude situations.
QBing is about a lot of things, but the most important piece is about rising to the occasion in the highest magnitude situations and overcoming adversity, in particular, adversity that is not of your own personal making.
Yes, he has put the ball in danger here and there and gotten away with a few that he won't get away with persistently, but no NFL QB has done the above better than Baker Mayfield in 2025.
Of course he has to be in the conversation (if not at the top of it) for 2025 MVP through week 5. Ton of football left to play though. But through week 5, given all the adversity this team and this offense has endured? I'd cast my 2025 vote for MVP to Mayfield and not given it a second thought.

5 games. He needs to do it again this week. He needs to do it again next week. If he’s the MVP he’ll take care of it himself.

Part of it is doing it, the other part is being recognized for it. Garnering that recognition this early in the year is a huge leg up.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 6:39 pm 5 games.
