I don’t feel great about Hartline calling plays.

I understand they needed to promote him to keep him, but a school like OSU should not be a place where you cut your teeth with play calling. Expertise should be the norm. It’s too important.

I told you OSU would win in a blowout. Doubled their score. DOUBLED IT!

Now, weren't you supposed to leave or something?

I’m willing to wager that the booster at Alabama would want DeBoer fired if Alabama loses. I also bet the fans are impatient.

There was an exodus after Saban left. e.g. The best defender in college football was playing at Alabama until he decided to retire.

It’s a great job, but just like Ohio State, the fan base has no patience, and (under typical circumstances) they do not tolerate a settling in period.

But…the boosters don’t have enough money to fire him anytime soon, and support a roster, and pay a new coach.

Which is a good position to be in. They need to have patience.

the nfl scouts will be having a blast with that Cade tape from last night.

Granted, it’s hard to excel as a quarterback when the line collapses immediately, but the average athleticism was on full display

What I liked best about watching LSU-Clemson, other than the win, was ESPN-U's coverage of the game, or rather the lack thereof. No announcers, no electronic wizardry, just put the drone behind the QB and watch each play from the point of view of the offense. You could see the game so much better without all the cutaways and the expected kissing of Clemson's butt that usually accompanies color guys talking about a favorite at home. Not having the first down markers meant I had to wait for LSU's band to play the first down tune to know their boys got it. I know such coverage existed because sometimes a second box would come up on the side with the first down markers and a side view, but even then without added sound, just the PA system, the crowd, like I was sitting in the end zone seats with a zoom lens. Oh and maybe half as many commercial breaks, you got to see the teams go in and go out of the timeouts for most of the game.

I'll say this, too, Clemson wasn't the most respectful host. The way they would turn off most of the lights and use halftime-type spotlights to try to disorient LSU after a timeout, the way their band played at the same time as LSU's when the first down tune was played to be a competing sound, not classy "Death Valley". The fact that I saw and heard that at all like usually only a person sitting at the game would during "commercial breaks", was refreshing.

I hope I get to see that kind of coverage again.

I didn’t watch the game because I was at the Michigan game. From what I’ve seen in the highlights, Clemson’ quarterback looks bad. What happened

I thought their QB was pretty good, actually. He made touch passes and evaded the pass rush, but as the game progressed the momentum shifted slowly towards LSU, Clemson's D-line was largely neutralized by snap-zing-catch passes to players at or behind the line of scrimmage who made yards after catch again and again. By mid-fourth quarter, their QB was running for his life on most pass plays. He still made a lot of passes while running sideways full speed and neither he nor his whole team gave up, but LSU lives for the interception and he was forced into at least one really critical one.

I wouldn't want LSU to play at Clemson very often, they'd win 3 out of 5 against LSU there with that team. Look for Clemson to have a fine season this year, they're really good.

What happened was Clemson was using a wide receiver at running back then lost its best actual wide receiver early in the first quarter, so they were an utterly one-dimensional "let's try to have one of our slot guys run a slant on every play" passing team. LSU essentially knew the play call for every snap and absolutely teed off on it. Klubnik had no time, no open receivers, and no safety valve help.

Oh, and while the above was going on, he made horrible decisions and even worse throws for 98% of the evening. Those things also happened.
