Our defense sucks and we draft a 6’1 WR. This might be my least favorite first round pick from Licht yet.

It’s pretty clear that Jason feels comfortable enough to adopt a zoomed out view of the team. I don’t think he’s drafting guys in the first round with a primary intention of plugging a current hole.Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:16 pm Our defense sucks and we draft a 6’1 WR. I don’t care for it as a long term investment either. I get you need to look to a future after Evans and Godwin but I’m not high on this guy being a legitimate replacement for those guys. I’ll happy to be wrong but I’m not pleased.Snake wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:19 pmIt’s pretty clear that Jason feels comfortable enough to adopt a zoomed out view of the team. Licht has always used FA to plug holes and then draft for long term gain. It's a smart play even if he does occasionally fumble.Snake wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:19 pmIt’s pretty clear that Jason feels comfortable enough to adopt a zoomed out view of the team. Egbuka was never on my radar after they re-signed Godwin, but having the best WR room in the league is a really good thing.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
There's a ton of depth in this draft on the defensive side of the ball and EE is probably the most polished receiver in the draft.
There's no clear consensus on many of the prospects this year so it's no surprise that we had a different board than the media.
This pick will look much better after day 2 imo.

We're paying the price for a half-measure taken by The Union 160 years ago.

Me either. The Bucs need serious help on defense. Reddick alone isn't enough to solve their defensive issues.Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:28 pmI don’t care for it as a long term investment either. Makes me wonder if Bowles got to Licht?

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
I am a defensive-minded fan. However after sucking on Offense for a majority of my Fandom (1979), I am loving our offense.
Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
As an OSU alum, I’m pretty hard on Buckeyes. calling Justin Fields and Chase Young overrated as prospects? Had to do it.
Egbuka, on paper, shouldn’t be as good as he is. He’s not the biggest. He’s not the fastest (not saying he’s slow, but he’s not DeSean Jackson). He plays the game correctly tho. Sure hands. High IQ. Good body control. Good deceleration.
I think the ceiling is Tyler Lockett. Emeka has bigger hands and is bigger overall. But the speed and agility numbers are basically identical, and I think they play very similarly.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
We went on our 4 game losing streak when we lost Evans and Godwin. Clearly we want to avoid that happening again.

Tyler Lockett ... 1st round ... meanwhile the drop off in corner talent after Barron is not small ...Snake wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:37 pm As an OSU alum, I’m pretty hard on Buckeyes. calling Justin Fields and Chase Young overrated as prospects? Had to do it.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
I'm not a college guy, so...
Would we have reached with a defensive player? An edge rushers?
Are we setting up our offense for the future and address this season in rounds 2-7?

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
This video illustrates his strengths well. Catches in tight windows. Laser focus. tearing up zones. Doesn’t move his hands until the absolute last second as to not tip off the corner. High motor.
It also illustrates his limitations. He won’t take the top off the defense. He’s not a big guy. He’s not physically imposing.
still work to be done. Route running needs tightened up.
But as Mike Tomlin says, “if they didn’t need coaching, then I wouldn’t have a job.”

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
Lockett wasn’t a bum. And Egbuka comes more ready made. Especially physically.__Chef__ wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:45 pmTyler Lockett ... Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
Isn’t Lockett more of a deep threat type? That’s not really Egbuka’s game.
We’re leaning more ball control. How the eff do you stop this offense?!
Awesome thing to think about.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
Lockett isn’t a bum, but he’s the “WR of the future” mold I’m looking for.
We have three 6’1 WRs that all could be slot guys behind Evans. I’m not sure that’s great for us now or in the future.
Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
Some of this stuff is above my pay grade. I don’t know what the offense will look like going forward. I don’t know what the NFL favors at this point, prototypically speaking.Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:57 pm

McMillan needs to become something ASAP though

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
Was far and away my #1 target when I was expecting to lose Godwin.
I had other players higher BPA wise but I don't have the insights OBP does. Particularly when it comes to character and being a Buccaneer man. Apparently Egbuka had that in spades. That's a huge deal for a Licht.
I'm not gonna be mad at drafting Godwin 2.0 because some people think we don't need him at this very moment.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
watching prime Godwin is a sobering experience. This kid is gonna be a contributor. But Godwin is/was so damn good. So strong, so tough. plus all the concentration and body control of a player like Emeka.
I don’t think that they’re comparable because one is a RAC god via physicality and one isn’t.
Barring something unforeseen, Emeka is a stand up double. And that’s great. Godwin is a home run.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
We got tyler lockett at 19 with glaring holes on defense yay
Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
The guy that picked Godwin (and Evans) just used a first rounder for the first time since his first pick on this WR.
Gonna trust the guy with the eye.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
You’d be happy with 9500 yards (adjusted for inflation) produced in a Bucs uniform, I think!

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Emeka Egbuka
I always said that Jason had an eye for wide receiver talent. Everyone’s gonna miss. Tyler Johnson, whatever. But he did identify Humphries, and got the decent years out of S. Miller. Evans, Godwin, Perriman on the cheap.
