Why were multiple superior duos not included?

Soooooooooooooo

no Ja'Marr Chase/Tee Higgins..
no AJ Brown/DeVonte Smith..
no Tyreek Hill/Jaylen Waddle..
no Justin Jefferson/Jordan Addison..

If 1 has to go, it's B. Hopkins basically got old over night. Not even sure he beats out Bateman on the depth chart.

Posting this on a Bucs board, one would have to assume choice 1 is going to stay. Although I wouldn't say it was a clear no because we have seen in the past after a major injury Godwin can have a down year, also coordinators / play callers. I think Dave Canales didn't know how to use Godwin. Again this year we have a new coordinator. As for rest, I don't really know all the WR's out there because I tunnel vision our Bucs. Everyone is saying B so far, but I honestly don't know both of those WR's. I'd be leaning towards C or D, with C slightly pulling ahead.

Metcalf and Pickens are a fine duo. If I was taking over a team tomorrow, and you told me those were my first two players off the rip…it’s better than many others. Both have big play ability. Neither has had great quarterbacking in a long time. Perhaps never for Pickens.

Oh I'm only saying that because I thought I heard Metcalf was in decline, and you have a valid point about Pickens not having good QBs. So my knowledge was probably limited on both those other two. I thought Adams was on the way down too? Maybe just down years with the Jets? I don't pay attention to the AFC at all, other than, did Mahommes lose, hot.

I can’t speak on Metcalf too much. I didn’t watch him super closely last season. I caught clips on red zone, but it seems like the same guy who I remember the last few years.

Flawed, but so fast and physical that he will produce even with a limited route tree.

If both Evans and Godwin play two full seasons without injury, they will be guaranteed to be the top two all time duo.

Bruce and Holt have Warner and Bulger. Duper and Clayton have Hall of Fame Dan Marino. Harrison and Wayne have Hall of Fame Peyton Manning. Rice and Taylor have Hall of Fame Montana and Steve Young.

Godwin and Evans have Brady, Mayfield and…well, let’s just say shitty Winston.

Evans has definitely been doing the bulk of the heavy lifting in that duo. Same with Rice.

If they each get 1000 yards next season, they become the #2 all-time duo by yards gained together per that graphic.

Crazy to think we're legitimately this close to having the #1 NFL WR duo of all time.

Oh, I agree. I just don't really think there's an argument to be made that Mike and Chris have had to overcome poor QB play at least from that perspective.

At 1853 yards from taking the #2 spot, they can probably do that if they play 25 games among them this year. Last year, they played 21 games combined and got 1580.

Evans averages 1284 yards per season. Godwin averages 1113 yards per season. If they played 2 full seasons each, that's almost 4800 yards. That'll put them about 100 yards from #1. Last year, they were on pace for 2558... 2 years like that and they'll surpass Bruce and Holt.

There are a lot of factors in play. Chief among them, both guys are getting up there in age. Injuries are becoming more frequent. Both missed time this past season with injuries.

Evans is a free agent again after this season. I look at guys like DeAndre Hopkins, Julio Jones who suffered from lower body injuries in their 30s and how quickly they fell off the cliff. Evans inched closer towards being that guy this past season. I wouldn't count on him having the most receiving yards he's had in a season since 2018 at age 32.

And as far as those "averages" go, those numbers are heavily skewed by what they did earlier in their careers. Especially Godwin. He's only surpassed 1100 yards twice in 8 seasons and that "average" only once all the way back in 2019. Injuries and missed games have slowed him down over the last 5 seasons. Evans as I mentioned hasn't topped 1284 yards since 2018. He came close in 2023 with 1255 yards and that's with him playing all 17 games.

What’s more likely…

Evans gets 1250 yards, or, he misses like seven games?

It’s not a choice I would want to make. He’s at that cliff of age for wide receiver performance.

I can’t recall why he retired so early. I think he gave up due to injuries.

Edit: Found it

While still regarded as being in his prime, Johnson retired after the 2015 season, citing a loss of passion for the game due to health concerns and the Lions' lack of overall success during his career. He was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
