Defensive backfield calls make no sense whatsoever.

Mike is held bang bang with the ball coming out. The Defensive Holding has absolutely zero to do with the ball being tipped downstream of it.

Afterward the ball is tipped.

This is my confusion as well. In theory a DB could mug a WR 45 yards downfield or even tackle him when the ball is passed, but if the eventual pass is tipped that PI now doesn’t matter. They need to fix that rule.

I've just watched it again. The Defensive Holding is 100 % before the ball is out of Brady's hands.

The tipped ball after the fact is inconsequential (tipped balls obviate subsequent DPI).

Complete eff up by the officials which could prove costly.

EDIT - And how to professional broadcasters who get paid a whole lot of money to perform this analysis in real time (with all of the tech that comes with it - eg "hey guys show me that again in slow mo") miss this?
