Ichabod's Monday Analysis: Week 10

Post by IchabodCrane84 »

Offense was to blame in the first half and the defense was to blame in the second. Its games like these that made me so beholden to this message board. We sucked so bad for so long you had to laugh about it, and you could always turn to good ole Ichabod to point out a few bright spots and crack some jokes. Admittedly, it tough. I think we’ve become spoiled because there aren’t many bright spots to talk about if any.

Likes:
1.) Godwin played his ass off and didn’t shit himself.

Dislikes:
1.) Loved OJ Howard’s foreshadowing false start to begin the game. He set the tone and then disappeared.
2.) What was with all the check downs? I thought we had an offense with an Alec Baldwin mentality? You miss all shots you don’t take.
3.) Richard Sherman hurt himself in warmups, but at least he had an excuse to not see the field. Ronald Jones on the other hand.
4.) Not sure how Vita Vea got hurt when the defense didn’t show up in the 4th quarter.
5.) JPP with one shoulder plays better than Shaq Barrett with padded pockets.
6.) Former Bucs WR Desean Jackson requests and gets his release. Former Bucs WR Breshard Perriman re-signs with the Bucs. Former Bucs WR Adam Humphries has a backbreaking 3rd down catch against his former team.

Random:
1.) All this concentration on how many female coaches were in this game, but no one mentions the referees with a beard.
2.) Brate catches a touchdown and the announcers immediately start talking about him catching the Lombardi Trophy, hamming it up calling for the phrase river in the redzone. It’s a bay dumbasses. It’s in our name.

Monday Night Football next week. We should’ve been heading in there with momentum and a commanding lead in the division. However, we’ll be limping into the spotlight hoping to recapture some magic. Giants have played us well the past couple of years so it’s not going to be a picnic. Hopefully we can get some injured guys back (yeah right) and make a statement.

So many little things piled up against us yesterday. Disheartening.

Thanks for the grins, Ich.

I wonder how imaginative Ichy is going to get coming up with positives for his day-after thread.
I'll give you Godwin.

From the pre game injury to Sherman, then the false start by OJ on the first play of the game, then the bounces like the Darden fumble/INT and again with the almost INT off Godwin's foot after the ball goes through his legs.

Just an off day.

Most of it was self inflicted.

I honestly thought we would play well and win coming off the bye then lay an egg next week on MNF vs the Giants.

So now hopefully we come out at home in primetime next week and put forth a much better effort and get to 5-0 at home.

Our performance on the road this season is a disturbing trend, we don't play with the same energy and the crowd noise is playing a factor this season.

All that said we're 1 game behind in the race for the #1 seed with alot of football to play so all is not lost. But I'm certainly less confident in this team after yesterday. We haven't really had a loss to an opponent like that since Brady signed here. Maybe early last season?

No mentions of how poorly the OL played or how scared Tom looked on the run throwing the ball? Sad.

One thing I will mention about yesterday's game is... Cold weather certainly affects Tom now. He doesn't have the same zip on the ball in the cold weather as he does when he's comfortable in Tampa. Surprising from a guy who played his entire career in one of the coldest elements in football.

Also on the Godwin front, he's one of the toughest dudes on the team. You know he was hurting. Props to him mucho.

And losing Vita Vea on that dumbass 4th down play may be the derailment of the entire season.

I appreciate your thread every week.

This week it did not mute my disappointment.

When Jordan Whitehead deflected that pass right into the Washington receiver's hands for a 20+ yard gain, I knew what kind of day it was for us.

Right. I feared Dean going for a pick on the overthrow was going to tip the ball back to the receiver.

That was another of the unfortunate bounces that didn't go our way.

We certainly didn't play well and they did. But we didn't get any breaks it seems either. Just felt like we were sledding uphill all game.

It is called acclimation. Tom has acclimated to Tampa. When he was in New England he was acclimated to New England. One is cold. One is hot.

Yeah, so what I highlighted in bold up above is quite possibly the dumbest take I've read so far this season. First off, I'm pretty sure this was the first 'cold weather' game the team played all year. Second, look to how Brady played in fucking Green Bay in fucking January earlier this year to see a counter-point to your incredibly reactionary and ridiculous statement.

Tom was 20/36 with 3 tds/3 ints in that game. 280 passing yards. He nearly cost the team the game in some ways. The one pick wasn't his fault because Evans dropped it, but there were plays in there where Tom did not play well. Plus there wasn't a crowd, and honestly... this team has struggled with the crowd.

Yeah, but what you said had nothing to do with their being a crowd. Unless you're suggesting that the ambience has a causative effect on the amount of velocity Brady is capable of putting on the ball. We're also not discussing turnovers, etc. You specifically stated that Brady can't put zip on a ball in cold weather anymore. That's the Eff’dup take. None of the issues we had against GB in the playoffs or yesterday against WFT were related to Brady's arm strength or the weather. Hell, both INTs were on the receivers. Darden coughed the first one up and on the second, after seeing Evans take the blame for it and rewatching it a couple of times you can see that the throw was okay, Evans just wasn't looking for the ball at all until it almost got there. That lead to him not even attempting to make the catch making the throw look really bad.

While obviously acclimation is a thing, I have a hard time calling 48 degree temperatures "cold."

It all depends. 48 degrees to someone in the Arctic is like summer. To someone in Florida, they need thermal protection on the order of a full winter jacket and hand warmers.

It was low 50s Monday morning here in Tampa when I went to walk my dog.

It was cold

Although I was wearing flip flops and gym shorts so that didn't help.
