NFL Sunday Ticket Rumors

Post by BJJ34 »

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... ams-games/
After 27 years of being forced to buy all in order to get some, NFL fans may be able to just buy some of the out-of-market games.

In an article by Daniel Kaplan of TheAthletic.com that focuses on the NFL’s supposed preference that Apple land the Sunday Ticket package, Kaplan reports that the new package could allow fans to buy just one team’s out of market games. Fans also could be permitted to buy stand-alone games.

That’s a huge development, one that most who buy the full package would welcome. They buy it to watch all of one team’s games. They’ve never had the ability to choose anything less than all of them.

The decision to force consumers to buy all of the games has sparked antitrust litigation in the past, and for good reason. Why should a Chargers fan living in Virginia have to buy the entire package if that fan only wants the Chargers games?

Whether it’s Apple or someone else, that feature could be coming. It’s already long overdue. By about 27 years.
Apple owning Sunday Ticket would be so clutch. Amazon would be alright as well. I'd prefer to get it off of DirecTV as soon as fucking possible.

The buying one team/redzone feature would be a great fucking feature. Might even get me out of streaming tbh.

Apple owning it would be horrible. They'd find some way to way overprice it and/or bind it to only their hardware. No matter who ends up with it, it was what, $200 or $300 a year on DirecTV? A service like NFL GamePass is $99 and you can't see games live. So I'd guess it would be something like $300 for everything, $150 for one team?

LUGZ, I assume you mean to buy the international gamepass? The US gamepass is only next day.

I like the international gamepass, any game I want whenever I want it. Worth the money to me.

Perhaps the NFL should go direct to the consumer. The idea of Apple getting NFL Sunday Ticket is a terrible one. They will force people to buy their overpriced hardware. Let us all hope Amazon or Netflix can grab this and the NFL is not stupid (greedy) enough to sell it to Apple.

AppleTV+ is one of the best things around. Add the NFL package and as an incentive to switch to apple by adding Sunday Ticket to iphone purchases.

Yeah, fuck that noise. If NFL wants the most money, they won't make it a service you have to pay for to get the privilege of paying for another service.

NFL sold exclusivity to EA and give zero F's about the product being good.. pretty sure they just care about securing the biggest bag possible.

Exactly why it is a bad idea to give NFL Ticket to Apple. Apple has a 2.7% market share for streaming with Apple TV. The NFL would either lose a great deal of money or Apple would try to force people to buy their product. Even if you talk about the iPhone market share it is only at 15%. Why would the NFL pigeonhole itself to such a small market share?

Apple (iOS) has 22% market share vs Google (Android) which has 75% market share. Apple != better.

AppleTV is a free thing. AppleTV+ is paid.

It’s literally just an app on smart tvs. (Every tv sold in the last two years would be smart tv).

Ah, I remember the Apple TV as a piece of hardware Apple sold.

If they make it a channel people can get on Roku or on Smart TVs then that is not such a problem.

I have Verizon so I can stream any game I want. But I live locally and know a couple bar owners so I don't need to

That being said, if the NFL really wants to make this work, not only should they offer the option for one team, they should also offer it on ALL cable, satellite and streaming services. Obviously they would have to lower the price but with it available across more platforms, they would still make the same profit.

He’s a stalker. I had to sick the dogs on NY last July.

And yeah it’s an app. It’s actually a convenient app too as it allows you to pull from all your accounts.

The thing is that it is already on all the platforms whether it's Roku, Android, Fire TV, and iOS. That covers streaming services. Direct TV already offers streaming service of the Sunday Ticket. What would the difference be for them or cable customers? How many people who watch TV on a TV doesn't have some streaming service like Netflix?

Don't get me wrong. I was apple through iPhone 4 and got tired of their next gen iOS miraculously slowing down when the new version came out. I have an android phone from one plus that's 3 years old and quick AF. So I agree. Fuck apple. Still their app is everywhere so limitations on where you watch is minimal.

TBH, if Google or Apple win the exclusive rights to the Sunday Ticket, it’ll be a good day for sports fans. Both streaming platforms are A+. Both Amazon and Hulu Live are a full tick below YouTube TV and Apple.

To be honest, in corporate IT I much prefer HPE. Apple would ship broken products (software issue) and then ask the customer to pay for the fixes. Apple would also discontinue products with no warning. To be fair with that I am not sure Apple understood what it did when it dropped support. If you are an end-user with no technical savvy buying Apple is a safe way to ensure that you are not getting crap. If you are a savvy user you look elsewhere to get better support and better value.
