Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
I’m bummed out, but at the same time I just remind myself how just a few years ago we were on a 13 year playoff drought. Getting handed heartbreaking playoff losses is part of the game when your team is actually good. It sucks we won’t be winning another Super Bowl, but we still made some great memories this year and of course last year’s run.

Oddly, how Buffalo lost lessens the blow..I guess it's true, misery does love company

No, I watched the game. Nice to see you picked us to lose and get to run the circus afterwards. Good job Bootz - you are a shining light..King Bootz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 7:07 pmThe game is over now, kiddo. Did you just wake up from your nap?

I found a better clip of that play. Ref did spot the ball.

This wasn't even close to the 2003 letdown.Swashbuckler wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 6:40 pm Thankfully 2003 prepared me for this day 19 years in advance. When I was a kid I took shit hard, like trying to not cry kind of stuff. I'm not really sure why. But these days at least I can be mad and I'll get over this in half an hour or so.
Fuck Todd Bowles

Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
So...just to recap our D (which some of you are literally looking to kill Bowles):
Horrible play call on the last play of the game, sure!
Other than that: 4 forced turnovers, 4/11 on third down allowed, giving up 2.4 yards per rush.

Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
Yup. Wasn't all bad from the defense.
If you would've told me going into the game we'd create 4 takeaways, hold them to 2.4yds per rush, and 4/11 on 3rd down I would've assumed the Bucs won by 10pts.
But that coverage bust on 3rd and 20 when Kupp scored that 70yd TD was inexcusable at this point in the season, then the miscommunication on that last play to Kupp after the team had scratched and clawed their way back into the game.
Just a shame. I honestly don't mind anything else. The Rams were going to get some yards passing the ball. Some of those catches by OBJ were just better execution on offense while the defense did what they were supposed to. Perhaps we played a bit too soft in coverage at time, but that didn't kill us. The lack of communication and not being on the same page in the secondary was the fatal flaw yesterday and you just don't expect that from top level defense in year 3 under the current coordinator.

Might I ask,why is "the Bootz" profile gone?

Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
Donovan was worse than Wells? Yikes.Wells allowed pressure on 12.2% of dropbacks but was far from alone in struggling. Donovan Smith couldn’t deal with the Rams' speed and was actually beaten more often than Wells once the help was deployed to the right side of the line. Smith allowed pressure on 15.8% of dropbacks and will likely earn his worst PFF pass-blocking grade of the season.
LVD worse than White? White played like crap. How bad did LVD need to be to be worse???Linebackers
It’s not often that Devin White outplays Lavonte David, but he did for large periods of the game. White typically struggles in coverage, but he came down with a nice pass breakup and allowed just one catch (albeit for 20 yards). David was targeted much more often — six times — and gave up six catches, three of which moved the chains for a first down.
I doubt anyone was surprised about that.Sean Murphy-Bunting was the most targeted member of the group, giving up seven catches from nine targets for 70 yards.
This means JTS passed rushed ZERO times! He was in on only 14 snaps all game and ZERO of them were pass rushing? Was he in coverage every down?Pass-rush win % (With attempts in [])
Vita Vea 19.10% [21] - begs the question why he played less than half the defensive snaps
Ndamukong Suh 16.00% [25]
Jason Pierre-Paul 9.40% [32] - not bad with a torn rotator cuff
William Gholston 7.10%[14]
Rakeem Nunez-Roches 6.30% [16]
Shaquil Barrett 3.00% [33] - OOF!
Steve McLendon 0.00% [12] - Double OOF!!

Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
Stats don’t tell the whole truth. PFF pissing me off here.
One of those first downs thrown against LVD was more or less perfect defense from a LB covering a TE. He was on an island in man. It was bang bang at the sticks for like a 5 yard gain. A worse LB bites on the first cut in the route and it’s a 15+ yard gain.
Should that 1D be held against LVD or graded in his favor because 90% of LBs blow it?

@kaimaru Sad is it not.

Anyone else depressed today
Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
If we had gone on to OT and lost, I would have been waaaaaaaay more okay with that than losing because of a total fuck-up play call at the end of the 4th quarter.

There's just no excuse for this crap - not rushing JTS even once, playing Vea less than 50%...That's just bad coordinating.kaimaru wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:37 pmDonovan was worse than Wells? Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
This was a pretty rotten loss. Todd Bowles is the worst DC currently employed.

Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
I would venture that he's a lot closer to the bottom of the list than the top. I can think of multiple basement dweller teams that still have a DC with enough sense to not just run the same crap over and over game after game (blitz) when it's not working. I'd also argue that the DC for any of the worst teams in the league would not have brought a zero blitz, against a QB who's one of the best in the league against the blitz and when the blitz had not been working all game, and left Kupp one-on-one with 28 seconds left. That call alone elevates Bowles to a category all his own in terms of incompetence.
Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
Whole lot of never / seldom used accounts just showing up and being super active now that the season is over. All very normal stuff.

White misplayed the first Rams TD when he let the TE off the line. Guess that's not counting as a coverage play because he bailed...?kaimaru wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:37 pmLVD worse than White? White played like crap. How bad did LVD need to be to be worse???Linebackers

Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
There were several games this year where the opposing offense would go to a hurry up when Vea left the field for a breather to keep him on the sidelines.... Don't know if that was the case here but LAR did that when we played them in the regular season if I remember correctlyTnbandwagoner wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:35 amThere's just no excuse for this crap - not rushing JTS even once, playing Vea less than 50%...That's just bad coordinating.kaimaru wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:37 pm

Sometimes the other teams coaches gets to dictate who has to stay on the field, not our coaches
Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
The JTS stat is extra disappointing. I know a lot of our lesser-known guys have had some great tape as of late but I wouldn't think it enough to keep JTS out of the gameplan to that extent.

Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
JTS has a few big issues in his game atm, from my weekend warrior eyes. He can't consistently keep hands off his chest when pass rushing, and he doesn't drop his ass enough when setting the edge. He's getting out techniqued, which negates all of his considerable athletic potential. He's got the frame to add 10-15 and keep that nasty get off he can flash when he doesn't predict and lets instinct/training kick in. I don't think the coaching staff did him any favors as a rook, asking him way too often to take on a role of a more seasoned player regarding zone drops and having to defend flat or curl/seam routes. Him being a non-factor so many snaps is more of a coaching issue than a player issue this past season. IMO.
Re: Rapid Reaction Finale: Our season ends
My understanding of line play is pretty bad compared to most. But I think Rocker nailed it.
