Well deservedThe Rays named Erik Neander their president of baseball operations and agreed to a multiyear extension with him on Wednesday, promoting him from his previous role as the club's general manager/senior vice president of baseball operations.
Under Neander, who was named MLB's Executive of the Year in 2019, the Rays have risen to the top of the American League this year with an 88-51 record and an AL-best +180 run differential entering Wednesday.

Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Every time I watch us commit a stupid out from stupid running I ask myself if we aren't compensating for how we lost the World Series being safe. Whatever, I guess the Sox just needed that win like life counted on it. We go .500 the rest of the way we win the division
Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
At least the Yankees losing, we need to watch out for red hot Blue Jays. They’re really good.
Damn the Stros keep winning.. fuck em

Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Can't win them all. 22 games to go, 9 & 9.5 game lead over Boston and NY respectively. 12 wins all but guarantees the division.
Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Holy hell it's good to be a TB sports fan right now. I said in a thread about the Bucs not too long ago how great it was that we don't give a crap how much our #1 draft pick plays this year. Most teams NEED that guy, we're like.... meh. Nurse him along.
Now, in this thread, I can say I'm not looking at the division, or the Yankees or Sox. I'm eyeballing 100 wins. That has been my focus for the past couple of weeks. How absurdly great is that? Well, those 100 wins, plus seeing if Franco can get on base as much as MANTLE and ROBINSON did. I mean, what?!?!?!?

Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
While team highs and individual stats are nice, the WS has to be the "what we're looking forward to" this season after getting popped there last year. It's going to be difficult to beat whoever comes out of the NLW, and that's assuming we even get past HOU.

Well, fuck.
Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa Bay won’t know the severity of the injury until at least Saturday, but Cash didn’t mince words, either, saying it was “highly likely” Franco would land on the injured list. Cash’s opinion was backed by a Minor League move: Not long after Franco’s exit, Triple-A shortstop Taylor Walls was pulled from Durham’s game with one out in the sixth inning.
It’s fairly easy to connect the dots from there, with Walls -- who has played 44 games with the Rays this season -- ostensibly hoofing it to the Motor City to fill Franco’s spot on the roster. After the care the organization took in shepherding MLB’s 2020 top overall prospect through the Minor Leagues, it’s a safe bet that the Rays will take no chances with Franco.
“The hope is that we caught it early enough where it's more strain and not a pull,” Cash said. “He's going to miss some time. I don't see how he avoids the IL, that's highly likely going to happen.”

July 28th: The last time the Rays had a 3 game losing streak. 10 more wins to 100.
Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Finally!!
Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Are the Dodgers & Giants that good, or is the rest of the NL that bad? Both those teams have already clinched a WC spot.

Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Both but mostly the former. Good luck trying to out pitch them. They are deep in their rotations and bullpens. No mistake also, they are the top 2 scoring teams in the NL. It’s their pitching that separates them though from the rest of the field.
Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
Outside of watching a few Rays games and watching the standings, I don't pay a lot of attention to the rest of the league until playoff time. If the Rays make it to the WS again, it's most likely going to be against one of these 2 teams. Kinda sucks because, if what you say is true, I don't think the Rays have the pitching to match up with them. They'll get their runs, but losing 6-3 or 8-5 is still losing.King Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 9:44 pmBoth but mostly the former. Good luck trying to out pitch them. Re: The Tampa Bay Rays
This is probably true. If the Rays are unable to score against either teams pitching they won't have a chance. That said, the difference between this Rays team and the one that made the WS last year is this is a much better offensive team. #1 in runs scored this year in baseball. They strike out a ton still but seem to capitalize when they get runners on base. I like their chances better against the Dodgers this year than I would the Giants. But either series would be fun to watch.Buc2 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 8:46 amOutside of watching a few Rays games and watching the standings, I don't pay a lot of attention to the rest of the league until playoff time. Rays “magic number” is 7 to clinch a playoff berth, 8 for the division.

Lol pulling runs out of their ass yet again. I don't know whether to be impressed or mystified at how a team full of super glue and duct tape keeps getting it done.

First in AL to clinch a playoff spot. That makes three years in a row for the poor little Rays.
