2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
As is tradition.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Apparently, Reich’s seat is “on fire” in Carolina.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Is Licht gonna get his **6th** coaching hire?
I’ll be fair to Bowles. It’s a suboptimal situation. Mayfield at QB, dead cap…but he really doesn’t help his chances.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
I'm at the point to where I'm ready for a good old-fashion house cleaning. Top to bottom.
The downside is our owners aren't really football people. I doubt they watch as many games as we do.
They really need to find a head of football operations type of person, who knows, loves, and understands the game.

Brandon Staley has to be #1 on the list. Seems inevitable.

I just became aware of an older rumor that Tepper wanted Tomlin fired when Tepper was minority owner with Steelers.

I believe that many coaches are not interested in working for Tepper.
No first round pick etc etc

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Gone Barring A Dramatic Turnaround In December (or maybe either way):
Ron Rivera, Washington. It would have taken a great year with the new ownership. It hasn't been a great year.
Matt Eberflus, Chicago. Can't argue with the record or the lack of development.
Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay. Not sure he has any defenders left in our outside of the building.
Arthur Smith, Atlanta. Would he keep his job with a sub-.500 division title? He won't without one.
Dennis Allen, New Orleans. The white Todd Bowles.
Bill Belichick, New England. It'll be a "mutual decision" of course. But they might be the worst team in football right now.
Brandon Staley, Chargers. Yep.
Could Go Either Way:
Mike McCarthy, Dallas. Depends on playoffs. I think he'll have to make the NFCCG.
Brian Daboll, Giants. I think he's almost definitely safe, but he's spent the house money and then some.
Matt LaFleur, Green Bay. Probably safe. But same situation as Daboll.
Frank Reich, Carolina. I think he could easily be gone. But I could also see the Panthers viewing this as an unfair season to judge.
Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland. They just have to keep playing hard without Watson.
Mike Vrabel, Tennessee. I'd say he's as good as done, but ownership has been emphatic in his defense thus far.
Antonio Pierce, Las Vegas. I think if they play well down the stretch, he'll get a real shot.
Not Going Anywhere In 2024:
Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia.
Kevin O'Connell, Minnesota.
Dan Campbell, Detroit.
Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco.
Pete Carroll, Seattle. Unless he retires.
Sean McVay, Rams. Frankly, he's done a great job this season.
Jonathan Gannon, Arizona. This was a "tank year," but they've shown up every week and played hard.
Mike McDaniel, Miami.
Sean McDermott, Buffalo.
Robert Saleh, Jets. They'd be insane.
Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh.
John Harbaugh, Baltimore.
Zac Taylor, Cincinnati.
DeMeco Ryans, Houston.
Shane Steichen, Indianapolis.
Andy Reid, Kansas City.
Sean Payton, Denver.
Ron Rivera, Washington. It would have taken a great year with the new ownership. It hasn't been a great year.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
The list won't be all that long this year, similar to last year.
Arthur Smith, Mike Vrabel, Brian Daboll and Ron Rivera have all gotten votes of confidence from ownership. Stefanski is 7-4 right now, which matches their win total from last year and he a damn good HC. Firing him would be just for the sake of it. LaFleur & McCarthy??? Not sure why they are even listed as 50/50. More like they aren't going anywhere. Doubt the Saints move on from Allen either. I wouldn't even put Bowles as a definite either. Fans are really discounting the salary cap issues created by Licht. I don't think the Bucs are discounting it though. Seems like it was part of the plan.
Only ones that are likely are Belichick, Staley, Eberflus, and Reich. Pierce could go either way.

Reich is gone. Thought he'd get more time.
Rivera and Staley have to be on the hottest seats right now. Rivera has a team that's not good with new owners that may want their own people in there. Staley has a franchise QB and can't win games.
I think we may see as many as 10 coaching changes.

I'll laugh out loud if Bowles lose to interim head coach.

I have a strong suspicion that Ben Johnson will be Carolina's new head coach.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
It's been long floated. It happens. Even RG3 had his believers, they even felt justified after year 1.
Young gives me Tua vibes. Can get crushed in the wrong scheme or flourish in the right one. Here's to hoping kitties never find the right one.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Nothing in what he said even implies he wanted 1 QB over the other. Just that the owner has a lot of influence. This is cherry picking at its finest. For all you know Reich could've wanted to stay at 9 instead of trading up.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 10:39 amhttps://thecomeback.com/nfl/carolina-pa ... troud.html

You are 100% correct. He did not explicitly say, "I wanted C.J. Stroud and David Tepper overruled me."Bootz wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 10:48 amNothing in what he said even implies he wanted 1 QB over the other. Just that the owner has a lot of influence. But, now 11 games into his inaugural season with the team he has been fired. Read between the lines a smidge, pal.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Reading between the lines= Speculation. Again you don't know what he's talking about. It could be QB. Could be the decision to trade DJ Moore. Could be assistant coaching decisions. Could be anything.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 10:52 amYou are 100% correct. He did not explicitly say, "I wanted C.J. Stroud and David Tepper overruled me."

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
The Young over Stroud decision is turning into a nightmare for Carolina. What makes it worse is the Panthers moved up 10 spots to make that move, and gave away what probably would have been the No. 1 overall pick this year plus their best WR. The Bears, meanwhile, are sitting pretty, ready to probably make another deal for someone desperate for Caleb Williams, get more picks, plus Marvin Harrison Jr., and another huge impact player. Plus, they could get Jim Harbaugh as head coach.
Texans and Bears fans should all be sending David Tepper a nice big Christmas gift this year.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Great way of putting it. And if I'm Chicago's GM, I do exactly what you described. Trade down, get more picks, get Fields some serious weapons at WR and if he doesn't pan out, I've got enough draft capital to replace him in 2025.Navybuc wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 11:05 am The Young over Stroud decision is turning into a nightmare for Carolina. Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Anyone "wanting" to keep Fields as their starting QB should really, reallllllly consider buying beach front property in Idaho.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
No chance they don’t draft Caleb Williams and move off of Fields.
It would behoove the Bucs to bring in Fields. Low risk asset in return. A 6th/7th would be interesting.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
I don't see how you can. Has Fields even begun to show the consistency and growth that you'd pass on two far superior (had they been in the same draft) QB prospects to roll with him? I don't see it, but others may disagree.BuccaNOLEer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 11:29 amGreat way of putting it. And if I'm Chicago's GM, I do exactly what you described. What I 100% expect them to do is talk up Fields until the last possible moment then deal him to a team that's going to miss out on the top tier of QBs in the draft. The only question is if it'll be Williams or Maye. The odds one of those guys is spectacular is greater than the odds Fields makes you regret dealing him away IMHO. And that's before you consider the compensation they'd get, which I expect will be the value of a first rounder and change.
