Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Re-shuffle is what's interesting. Mason is likely extended or cut as well. I think cut.
Hainsey and Goedeke were suppose to spot starters developing behind Stinnie and Jensen who got thrust into the line up. Hainsey really stepped up at center and could be the future starter there for us. For now he'll compete for a starting OG spot, where I think he'll be good for us.
Goedeke got torn into but to be fair we shoved this project in front of David Onyemata, Kenny Clark, Chris Jones, Grady Jarrett, and Cam Heyward right out the gate. It almost seemed malicious. Either way, I think it's unfair to write him off this early because of it. New off season and offense. Finally, you have Leverett and hopefully Stinnie on the cheap.
Maybe Hainsey moves to RT. Maybe we draft one. Overall it's really not nearly as bad of an offensive line as people make it seem.

It should.real bucs fan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 1:51 pm If Smith is cut, that definitely could mean an OT at 19.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Maybe. It's a real deep class, there are some Licht style guys that will be there throughout Day 2.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
One of those two will have to play a role on this Oline. They are both day 2 picks and it would be a waste if neither of them are starting. Hainsey wasn't horrific and maybe could slide in at LG or RG.Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 1:51 pm Re-shuffle is what's interesting. Mason is likely extended or cut as well. I think cut.

Shaq Mason, I wouldn't be surprised if we cut, extended or just let his contract play out as is.

Shaq's gone or were stupid.Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 1:40 pm It's not that hard to be a better team than last year. Last year was a train wreck.
1) Tom should not have come back. From a "best for the team" standpoint we all know it to be true, but we'd all do it again because it's Tom.
2) If we weren't DOA after losing Ali we were after losing Jensen and Stinnie.
3) Nothing on offense worked
Anyone that tries to sell you "Do you think we'll be better than we were with BRADY???" is being insincere, the NFL is more nuanced than that.
Extensions to Evans, White, Godwin, and Shaq will go a long way. Bring back Stinnie and SMB cheap so we can squeeze LVD back under the cap as well. If the defense can start grave digging again, I think this team can be very good.
Now, will this week 1 team be better than last years week 1 team? Probably not. But it's not hard for this years Dec team to be better than last years Dec team, and that's what we're really looking for. Do we get 8 wins along the journey? Depends on who we play and win. Any given sunday.

Not me, Dylan Cook wins the job over Brandon Walton. I take our first rounder from trading down and smile.real bucs fan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 1:51 pm If Smith is cut, that definitely could mean an OT at 19.

I'd go with White and Vaughn and look for a couple undrafted diamonds.

Lenny was an obvious cut. Now do Donovan, Brate and Succop.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
We're going to get a lot of fringe players and jags this free agency.
Six figure guys.
The thrill is when one of them emerges as a top guy taking advantage of the opportunity.

Mason I think could happen. Barrett will be more difficult. A ton of dead cap, not much savings.

Barrett might be a guy we trade and eat the cap on just so we can get a pick. He really has no business being on a roster like ours.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
We could designate him post June 1 cut. It would save $14mil+ this year. Problem is $16mil+ is added to the 2024 dead cap.BucsNBills wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 2:57 pmBarrett might be a guy we trade and eat the cap on just so we can get a pick. He really has no business being on a roster like ours.

Was gonna say that but I seem to recall him being a von Miller cap casualty that was sought after in free agency.
Now Simeon Rice is definitely the type of guy I'm talking about. Donald Penn as well.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
He's coming off a torn Achilles. Somebody would have to have a stroke to want to trade for him.BucsNBills wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 2:57 pmBarrett might be a guy we trade and eat the cap on just so we can get a pick. He really has no business being on a roster like ours.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Sigh, a completely untradeable roster.

I was so inspired by Cam Gill before he went down.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
We have tradeable assets. It's just that trading them would hurt.
For example, Carlton Davis would be a hot commodity to somebody in need of secondary help. An experienced CB1 with two years of team control? Could be a second or third rounder to somebody.
Doing so would net the Bucs $11.5 million in cap savings with $6.6 million in dead cap. That would put a solid dent in the $56 million dollar hole we find ourselves in.
BUT that would suck. A suck we may need to do, but a suck nonetheless.

Apparently, Lenny asked to be let go after the season and says there was no bad blood.
Lenny is exactly the kind of short term signings people hate but go on to be unsung heroes. Not everyone needs to be a 10 year player. You weren't here for a long time and you weren't great all the time, but you were both those things at the right time. Thanks Lenny and wish you the best out there.

While he had his frustrating moments, dude played really well for us and was a team player. He seems to have turned around his career from his ignoble Jaguar days. I wish him success moving forward.Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 5:29 pm Apparently, Lenny asked to be let go after the season and says there was no bad blood.

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
He wasn’t exactly in high demand, imo. Bucs did him a favor with that deal.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
This. He was trash before he came here and was aided tremendously by a superior ensemble cast. Then he got fat and was replaced by 3rd round rookie.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate what he did for us on the Super Bowl run… other than that? Meh

What trades and other moves is Licht working on? The moves so far have been easy ones that even a blind man could see what was coming. Do the Bucs make 1 or 2 very unpopular trades or make moves that kicks the can down the road?
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
So they are going to try out Wirfs at LT. He said it's like wiping your butt. Just a different hand down haha. Pewterreport.com discussed possibilities for the line here: https://www.pewterreport.com/donovan-sm ... le-o-line/
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Yup, expect a lot of movement. I think Wirfs could go left but isn't a lock. It very much depends on who we have on roster come TC and what our best alignment will be. We have a lot of players with a lot of versatility. I wouldn't be surprised if we go through quite a few set ups during the preseason.
