The very CB depth we just lost?
True. I don't understand the obsession with getting rid Dean asap? Why? I've seen this posted heaps everywhere.

He's a decent to good CB. That makes the CB room worse. The goal should be to have drafted CB's hit and Dean is pushed down the order and relied upon less. That's what good teams to build out their depth. Proven players as depth if they're replaced as starters.

Otherwise we're back to the Hayes, Funderburk etc mess and heaven forbid injury hits also.

“Benjamin Morrison, I love him,” Barber said on the second episode of The Rondé Barber Show, before playfully adding, “He’s not getting my number, by the way. Just putting that out there right now.”

This isn't an issue exclusive to him. 2nd round picks and their agents want their deals fully guaranteed. The only 2 that have signed got fully guaranteed contracts.

The NFLPA is gonna have to figure this out.

Nipping it in the bud, paying college players would move it to the 3rd round after time.

As it should be. They nerfed TF out of rookies with the rookie wage scale least they can do the guarantee the whole thing.

The clock is ticking and there doesn't appear to be a solution within the CBA or the wage scale agreement.

Players will bend first, they always do. You tell a 21 year old kid he’s getting $0 or $6m guaranteed instead of $14m (or whatever the 2nd round value is) guess what he’s picking…

As stated before, this isn't a player issue. The rookie scale is pretty set in stone, so players or teams can't really deviate from the norm much. This is all about the guaranteed money. Precedent has already been set with the Texans and Browns giving their 2nd rounders these deals. If I had to guess, agents and teams have agreed to put a pause on this so the NFL and the NFLPA can iron this out.

Wonder if both sides would benefit from something similar to an MLB style system. Give all players 5 year deals... but then the last 2 for players drafted in R's 2-7 can qualify for arbitration, R1's can qualify after 2 (for last 3).

This system seems like it would work better in the NFL than MLB. Players peak earlier in their career's and should make the most money when they're the most productive. Teams win out on that too as they don't have to pay inflated costs for guys at the ends of their deals.

The base pay would be low (and can be guaranteed), but they're only guaranteed for the first 2 years (for R1's), or 3 years (for R's 2 through 7), at that point, you can get even more money so you wouldn't want a guaranteed deal for the lower base pay.

Base pay for Y1 would be $500k, Y2 would be $650k, Y3 would be $800k.

After Y2 for 1st rounders (Y3 2nd-7th rounders), can get as much as 25% of the players they're comparable too, at their position.
After Y3 for 1st rounders (Y4 2nd-7th rounders), can get as much as 50% of the players they're comparable too, at their position.
After Y4 for 1st rounders can get as much as 75% of the players they're comparable too, at their position.

You give up more money in the short term for money on the back end.

Is this the first year it’s in effect? I don’t remember it being an issue in the past.

Every year salaries would go up, now that they can't it's the percentage of guaranteed that is. I think this is the first time it's drifted into the 2nd round getting 100%, but not sure.

But yeah, once that genie is out it's hard to put back in. Then comes third rounders.

Not Navybuc but yes, the kid is very good. Without the hip injury, likely a top 10-15 pick if not higher, he’s have been the second CB off the board. One of the best college CBs the past few years.

If his hips end up not being an issue and his talents translate to the pro game, he’s a second round steal.

Very. He's doesn't look comfortable out there, which isn't a surprise given the multiple hamstring injuries since he's been here. Don't know if he was a burner to begin with though.
