2022 Offseason Thread
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I wonder if JPP would want to become a coach? When he hangs them up...
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I don't want him back at any price. Now is JTS's time. And Cam Gill flashed last year too.

Truth. We're ready to move on.
At defensive tackle...yeesh. Not a lot out there. Former Bears Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman. Brandon Williams. Jonathan Hankins. Star Lotulelei. Larry Ogunjobi, if he can pass a physical. A few others. Not much at all, and we absolutely have to sign a veteran who can play some meaningful snaps.

I keep hearing this draft is deep at DL. Could we get a good rookie DT?MJW wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 3:17 amTruth. We're ready to move on.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I think it's a foregone conclusion we take a DL in the first three rounds. And maybe more than one guy. We have to. Right now, our starting three (inasmuch as we use that look) is Vea, Gholston, and Benny Potato. Top backups? Kobe Smith and someone called "Willington Previlon," a name I had never heard before in my life until I wrote this post.Primeminister wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 6:40 amI keep hearing this draft is deep at DL. I would say to get this thing remotely near where it needs to be, we need to land one of those guys I mentioned above, add another vet minimum type who can provide some depth, draft a guy pretty high, and maybe even then draft another one late.
I'd love to take a swing at Johnathan Hankins, but I don't know if we have the cap room. Add my guy Travis Jones or maybe Phidarian Mathis in the 2nd, outbid for a top UDFA or two, and keep an eye on camp cuts...we could be decent there.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Nacho (#56) is under contract and would be the starter in Suh's currently vacant 3T role next to Vea. Nacho has performed well the past couple of seasons.MJW wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 7:20 amI think it's a foregone conclusion we take a DL in the first three rounds. And maybe more than one guy. But I agree we need atleast 1 more quality interior Dlinemen for the rotation. Maybe 2.
I could see us re-signing Suh and drafting his replacement for 2023 at pick 27 next month.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
No Mathis for me.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Suh said it was a torn PCL, not ACL.
Partial PCL tears don't necessarily require surgery from what I read about it.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I'd love to have Suh and JPP back. Obviously the contracts have to work, we may need to fill depth with cheaper no names... er I mean gems. But if they come cheap I'm in. These guys rotate a lot. JTS gonna earn his snaps by being better. Period.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
At this point JPP has to earn his snaps. He has not been good these past 2 seasons in which he was paid a lot of money. He's 33 now and the injuries have piled up. Time to upgrade, whether it JTS or another EDGE player.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
JPP should just retire and feel good about an amazing career. But the injuries have mounted for him and he’s not that effective a player anymore and I’m not sure the pay is worth the risk for him at this point considering his career earnings.
Suh I’m hoping comes back, he low key had a great year last year.
I think with Shaq, JTS, Gill and Nelson we are in good shape at edge though wouldn’t pass on a stud if one slipped to us (not quite sold on JTS, he still needs to prove it).
As Dread said, getting Suhs replacement at the end of round 1 might be the move.

Why no mention of Gholston? He's back for his 10th year with the team.real bucs fan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 11:12 am JPP should just retire and feel good about an amazing career. Gholston plays a different position than Suh but glad he’s back.Buc2 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:56 pmWhy no mention of Gholston? My bad. You said edge and then also mentioned Suh, so I thought you were talking about DL in general.real bucs fan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 1:54 pmGholston plays a different position than Suh but glad he’s back.

I fear we will be watching as they get picked. Even with a large amount of them, that makes it even worse.King Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 10:38 am At this point JPP has to earn his snaps. Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
We really don't need a rusher, unless one thinks Shaq is going to decline (or JTS isn't going to develop.) I hope LOTS of them go, pushing defensive linemen, corners, and guards to us.mdb1958 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 12:57 amI fear we will be watching as they get picked. Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Players get nicked, hurt, go in the tent, face someone they cannot beat one on one. Bringing in another DB on third down and rushing four has not looked to good for us. Plus I'm a believer that talent pushes talent.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Over the hill vets still have usefulness as rotational depth. It's all about the price.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Based on how he looked last year, I'm not sure JPP would beat out a talented UDFA in a fair fight. That's the problem. He didn't look like he could play the game anymore. It's nice to say, "We can bring JPP off the bench as depth," but when he's a liability, he's a liability.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I'm not sure either. But luckily for us we don't need to assume anything. That's what training camp is for. Plenty of vets get cut come preseason.MJW wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 11:21 pmBased on how he looked last year, I'm not sure JPP would beat out a talented UDFA in a fair fight. That's the problem.
