Morrison mentioned this in his first interview as well. Also mentioned they waited to have the surgery until his growth plates had closed, which means much less likely to have reoccurring issues or stiffness.Central_Buc wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 3:01 am Scott Reynolds (Pewter Report) went on to mention that Ravens former S Ed Reed and Brett Favre had this same Hip procedure done and still had very good careers.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
I didn’t realize Zyon McCollum was in the last year of his deal. I thought we drafted him in 2023. This makes this pick all that more important. The hope is likely that Morrison steps into that role in 2026.

So, which is it?
A wasted pick?

Or the steal of the draft?BucsNBills wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 9:06 pm We now have 3 press corners that will be forced to play zone and then wonder why we have coverage issues...

Think we may have got a massive steal.
Draft just keeps getting better.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
I mean it's not an inconsistent take. If we draft press corners and play them in zone they can both be amazing players and utilized poorly.
Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
Graphically shows just how much the draft means to these kids. Worked all their lives to this point and to get the call. Man. That's gotta be a great feeling.

Well, if the pick is wasted, then it wasn't much of a steal.

Fucking Scott Reynolds has a habit of stealing quotes without giving proper credit.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
It's an interesting habit by Bowles, getting press corners and then having them play zone, and one which I have struggled to understand. Perhaps his reasoning is that it's much easier to teach a press man corner to play passable zone than it is to teach a natural zone corner to dominate in press. Perhaps he wants to play man more often but just doesn't have the horses to do it.
It's frustrating to watch, but I wouldn't chalk it up to incompetence. Bowles was a Superbowl starting safety and when he hung them up he coached defensive backs before he was a coordinator. He has been playing as a defensive back or coaching them for over 40 years; he knows what he's doing and knows talent when he sees it.

That's what makes the defensive struggles so frustrating.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
There is no such thing as a man corner.
The league is 70% zone. If you can't play zone you can't play corner.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
Bowles has said it a few times in past game pressers when asked why he's gotten away from his beloved man coverage plays and the answer is always been playing to players strengths, which hasn't been man.
And a big reason for that has been Jemel Dean and his health. When we CD3, SMB, and Dean deep we ran hella man. Man is far less forgiving than zone.
But when you can't count on Dean to man one side of a field he can't get on... And I wouldn't want Hayes or Thunderburk manned on any decent WR2.
We got an outside and slot CB who are damn good at man. That was very intentional.

More likely they extend McCollum and trade Dean or let him walk at the end of his deal, imo.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
I really hope we don't cut/trade Dean. No reason to lose him even though he's likely going to miss some games. He's still our best CB when healthy and now we have a really good rookie who will be available to fill in and ultimately replace Dean altogether once he's earned it.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 2:43 pmMore likely they extend McCollum and trade Dean or let him walk at the end of his deal, imo.
We have fantastic CB depth now, no reason to compromise it now.

If anything, keep our vets and bring our rookies along at their own pace, because Zyon is a free agent next season and Dean will be the season after.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
No reason to lose Dean. Put us right back in that pickle. To save $6M in cap to use on what?
The very CB depth we just lost?

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
This year? No. Dean is a Buc.
Dean has two years left on his deal. I think you let him play that out considering average corners were getting $20M AAV in free agency.
But, you could trade him after the season if you get Carlton Davis value and you’re comfortable with Zyon and Morrison.

Re: Welcome to Tampa, Benjamin Morrison
True. I don't understand the obsession with getting rid Dean asap? Why? I've seen this posted heaps everywhere.
He's a decent to good CB. That makes the CB room worse. The goal should be to have drafted CB's hit and Dean is pushed down the order and relied upon less. That's what good teams to build out their depth. Proven players as depth if they're replaced as starters.
Otherwise we're back to the Hayes, Funderburk etc mess and heaven forbid injury hits also.
