Its an outside release Fade (Gronk) and Whip (Out and then Pivot back In from Howard) from Unbalanced Right w/ Brate coming hard underneath. Basically a Tunnel Screen concept without OL climbing 2nd level (so just a rub concept).

It was actually a winning play against the coverage.

Either Howard run the wrong depth on his Whip route or (more likely) Brate didn't run his Drag/Slant flat enough underneath it. My money is on the latter.

We have clown shoes moments of execution sometimes.

That gross lack of execution is either coached or condoned.

Or...(i) they've repped that play about 50 times in practice this year without that personnel grouping but are having to use it now because of injuries and (ii) Brate has just had a bad year this year.

Sometimes, its just a pile of stuff.

Like that earlier Quick-Out Screen to Howard where you were right to call it ticky tack. I've watched it 10 times on slow mo and its indistinguishable if the block consequentially occurs before the ball is out of Brady's hand or not. Hence, the call was completely arbitrary because you'll see that same play 20 more times during this NFL week not called.

NFL officiating is enormously arbitrary, and it infects the integrity of play across the entire suite of NFL games every single week.

NFL games are often just a pile of random stuff. A complete stochastic system that we desperately want to attribute this definitive signal of agency to.
