Welcome Julio Jones

Post by Kona »

[Schefter] Seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones is signing a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per source. The soon-to-be 45-year Tom Brady now will have a chance to throw to the 33-year-old Jones. More on ESPN’s NFL Live.

Julio winning a ring with Tom Brady on the Bucs would be the biggest middle finger to Falcons fans. I love this for that idea alone.

Gage? Not in a sense of getting released but convince me that this doesn't move him down the depth chart.

LET'S GO!

I love to see it. Julio has always been basically the anti-Mike Evans. He couldn't stay healthy last year. If he can and can help us stretch the field that much more, awesome.

And if he's "done" then that will tell us something about out young guys if they can't even beat out a "done" Julio.

Maybe, if only to give Gage Godwin's slot work until his return. But when fully healthy I think JJ/Gage battle is as legit as they come for the X spot and I could very well see Gage winning it.

I can think of about five guys who we should put on the PUP list preemptively. We will manage. I’m trying to limit exposure here. Lmao.

I said this last year during the season, but he looked awesome at time in TN last year. He just couldn't stay healthy. When he was, he still had the elite explosion and hands. I'm excited, but limited like when we signed AB. This can be awesome, but he also may not play.

I seriously hope he can regain his old self. If he can, watch out. Especially when Godwin comes back.

Neutral to happy I’m guessing? Team could’ve got a lot better with this signing if he stays healthy

His health will be the key. You mentioned the Hammy's, @Snake. He's played 19 games over the last 2 seasons. That usually doesn't get better as you get older. We'll see.

Julio likely gives us the redzone presence we’ll miss from Gronk. I still think top 3 will be Evans/Godwin/Gage. But throw Julio out there for 10-15 routes a game against a CB4 and see what happens.

He's missed 32 games in his eleven year career - but hey if Brady and him connect I'm good with it.

Because it's name chasing a rapidly declining athlete that does not fill a need at the position. In what way does signing a 33 year old, injury prone WR that struggles to put up points make us more of a threat in the postseason? Or for that matter securing a solid playoff position?

I'm the biggest Julio fan. But he ain't a red zone threat. In fact, it's one of the warranted criticisms of his game. For whatever reason, he does not play as well when things are tight as he does between the 20s.

He was effective when healthy last season. I give this signing about 50% chance of being a bust, 50% chance of being pretty good. We drop a JAG WR off the back of the roster and add a guy who has legitimate upside.

I just don’t see the downside. If he stinks, you just add the jag right back in.
