Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Tell me you've never watched a player play without telling me you've never watched a player play. Ward is one of the best in the game. QBs don't throw his way much and when they do, he gets his hands on the ball. Best in the game? Probably not. But he is solidly top 5 and we all know how this works anyway. Someone will soon sign a slightly larger deal.Digital_Damage wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:25 amLOL, the browns are pulling a late 2000's Dan Snyder.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Ward is certainly in that top/elite of NFL CBs imo. He's also likely the youngest CB in that group.
He's an elite player who plays a premium position. Paying him is a no-brainer imo.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Yea it's not everyday you find 24/25 year old elite players going into their 2nd contracts. Only knock on him is he's dinged more often than you'd like but it's never been anything serious. He's never played a full 16/17 game season before. But I have zero issues with the Browns paying him. He's earned it.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
The fact that you qualified "top/elite" is a bit telling, but maybe that's just because it's how I see it. Top corner? Yes. Worth the highest contract ever? Ummmmmmm....
Maybe it's just the ever-increasing nature of things, but he is not in the same category of game-changer as a guy like Deion. But good for him.

Apparently, Directv may be losing out to Apple for NFL Sunday Ticket beginning with the 2023 season.
Report: NFL Sunday Ticket ‘likely’ headed to new home
April 19, 2022 by Steve DelVecchio
DirecTV has had held the rights to the NFL’s Sunday Ticket package since it first launched in 1994, but that is set to change after next season. Sunday Ticket is expected to land with a streaming service in 2023, and a favorite has emerged.
According to Matthew Belloni of PUCK.news, the NFL may already have a deal in place with Apple for Sunday Ticket. Belloni described the Sunday Ticket package as being “Apple’s to lose” and said one source told him a deal is in place but that Apple wants to keep it quiet for now.
DirecTV’s most recent deal with the NFL was renewed in 2014. The satellite provider pays $1.5 billion annually for the package. The new price is expected to be in the $2.5 billion range.
At least one other tech juggernaut was said to be competing with Apple.
The NFL is clearly committed to partnering with streaming services, as evidenced by Amazon becoming the exclusive provider of “Thursday Night Football” beginning next season. Many fans are unhappy with the changes, as they will come with added costs and inconvenience for those who still use cable and satellite providers.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
If we have to wait til June 6-10 for that announcement, i’m gonna be mad. Apple would be great. I’m integrated with products. Would make Sunday Ticket likely $600 a year though.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Reports are that the deal is already done with Apple, but even so it won’t be in place until 2023. This season is with Directv no matter what.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I like this better than Directv. I had DTV for years only because it was the only way I could get Sunday Ticket. With Apple or Amazon or whoever, you don't have to have a satellite dish to receive it so anyone can subscribe provided they're willing to pay the price for it.Primeminister wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 3:49 pmReports are that the deal is already done with Apple, but even so it won’t be in place until 2023. Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Agreed. Plus there are some already subscribed to Apple or Amazon so for some it’s not adding another subscription you don’t want. I expect Apple to do a better job with the platform design as well. Sunday Ticket has been such crap for a couple years that it seemed like DTV didn’t care. They knew people would subscribe anyway so why bother.Buc2 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 4:37 pmI like this better than Directv. I like Deebo Samuel but he seems to forget that before 2021 he hadn't done a damn thing.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
You have been able to get it without the dish. It has been a DirectTV streaming service since 2009. C'mon now, you could even get it on the PS3 and XBox 360. I am also sure that Apple will jack the price up like usual.Buc2 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 4:37 pmI like this better than Directv. 800 yards receiving his rookie year isn't bad. He also was injured over half of 2020.King Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:15 pm I like Deebo Samuel but he seems to forget that before 2021 he hadn't done a damn thing.

"Isn't bad" is not the attitude he's displaying now. He's acting as if he's been a great player with great production over the course of his career.kaimaru wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:59 pm800 yards receiving his rookie year isn't bad. He's a hell of a player. But at least some of what he's doing is due to Shanahan scheming him into good situations with the ball. How much is up for debate. But I don't buy that he'd go anywhere and do what he's doing right now.
Should they pay him? Yes. Should the deal by anywhere near the money guys like Adams and Hill just got? Not IMHO.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
When you tease out what Terry McLaurin has done, looking at the metrics of Washington's quarterback play...it's insane. If he'd even had someone like Kirk Cousins throwing him the ball, he'd probably be in the conversation as one of the very best in the league. I don't remember the qualifiers, but among "top" receivers, he has the lowest number of catchable targets in the league by a wide, wide margin.
Washington has to sign him. Has to. It's about more than football for them right now. That organization is in flames. The fans just found out their owner has been defrauding them. They haven't fielded a Superbowl contending team in 30 years. They haven't had a franchise QB since Joe Theismann. If they let one of their few real superstars leave at age 25, it would be crushing to a fanbase that's already crushed.

That's how I view Tyreek Hill; amazing for/in KC, above average anywhere else, especially with a limp-armed QB.MJW wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 11:08 pm He's a hell of a player. Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
He's a wide receiver playing running back, so he's trying to leverage what WR's get paid against the RB risk of injury. I'm not sure it works like that.MJW wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 11:08 pm He's a hell of a player. But at least some of what he's doing is due to Shanahan scheming him into good situations with the ball. Assuming you never watched him play with Alex Smith at QB. If I told you the 2nd highest YPC of his career came with Smith at QB what would your response be? And yes, Tua has a better arm than Alex Smith did.acmillis wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 9:15 amThat's how I view Tyreek Hill; amazing for/in KC, above average anywhere else, especially with a limp-armed QB.MJW wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 11:08 pm He's a hell of a player. Mike Glennon takes offense to the check down artist remark
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
We'll see this season if Tyreek Hill is still (arguably) the best WR in football, or if the scheme in KC made him what he was in KC. I'd venture to guess that all of his stats fall, partly because Tua is trash, but partly because the scheme in KC was perfect for him.King Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 9:22 amAssuming you never watched him play with Alex Smith at QB. In what way was the scheme perfect for him? The majority of the plays that went his way were him converting short passes into longer gains. By your own logic, since Tua has a "weak arm", check downs to Hill should be par the course.
Take a look at what Waddle did with Tua. He "only" set the record for receptions by a rookie WR.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Not to be a fly in the ointment, but I thought Tua's arm strength was a plus coming out of Bama. He certainly had a ton of zip on the ball coming off the bench in that national championship game.
Is Miami pushing him to check down to avoid the risk of turnovers?

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
He had either the worst or second worst pass blocking in the NFL last season and had the third least time to throw. He has plenty of arm for the NFL and showed it last season, when he could._MB_ wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:21 am Not to be a fly in the ointment, but I thought Tua's arm strength was a plus coming out of Bama. Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Their Oline is crap. Whether it was Tua or Fitz they didn't have a ton of time back there. So they went for a shorter, quicker passing game. Additionally they don't exactly have the athletes to push the ball down the field. Waddle helps but he's a guy who can turn a 5 yard pass into a 15 yard gain like Hill can. So you'd want to utilize his make you miss ability as much as possible._MB_ wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:21 am Not to be a fly in the ointment, but I thought Tua's arm strength was a plus coming out of Bama. Tua's arm is plenty strong. I'm just entertaining this IABL notion that he has a weak arm because it's an argument you won't hear anywhere else.
Edit: @uscbucsfan beat me to it, but yea. That's the situation.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
At this point no one knows what he wants. Not even him. The Niners made him several offers. He put a full stop to everything yesterday and just wants to leave the organization. It's something we don't know and I'm guessing neither does he. Reportedly the offer was extremely generous.
