A lot of talking heads are saying he's done. I think he wants to rest for a while. I'm betting he will skip offseason workouts and sign a one year deal shortly before training camp.

Saints seem to be all in on Jameis and the current window. Unless the Saints get to at least the divisional round in 2022 it would seem the Eagles would get more 'value' on this trade.
Obviously who gets picked and what those players become matters a great deal in who wins any trade involving only draft picks.
Certainly more of a risky move by the Saints. Even if the Saints make the playoffs and get bounced in the divisional round (pretty optimistic, but sure) the Eagles are still getting the 101st overall pick this April and a 'late' 2nd rounder

And this is not the year to do it. If Saints management had been smart, they would've held on to their pick next year and tried to move up to get Young or Stroud.uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 12:01 pmWatch them draft a QB.Dread wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 11:12 am

I always like to play it out as whose career was messed up by going to the wrong team. Crazy amount of choices for me in this coming draft.Defense5599 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 9:12 amAnd this is not the year to do it. Bucs bring in former Falcons/Cowboys safety Keanu Neal
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
They also re-signed Gabbert.

It would be very disappointing if Trask can't beat those two put for the back up spot in year two. I wouldn't get against your assessment though.uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 4:59 pmWe always have 3 actual QBs...Brady, Gabbert, Griffin...I'm guessing Trask stays 3rd string and inactive unless Brady or Gabbert get hurt and Griffin leap frogs him again.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Can’t say I’ve followed Neal all that much the past few seasons other than he had an Achilles and ACL injury in back to back years with Atlanta. But he wasn’t much of a fit at LB in Dallas apparently. IMO if he stays healthy he should be solid depth as a SS/Special teams.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I get bringing Gabbert back bc he knows the system. I guess I’ll withhold judgement on Trask until we see some preseason action.

Maybe they figure it’s a 3 man job helping Brady off the boat parade next February.PetePierson wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 5:12 pm Is there (has there been) a bigger drop off in QB talent than the QB room at One Buc the last few seasons?
It's fucking embarrassing.

Maybe.King Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 5:04 pmI think he's moving back to safety after a year at LB. He's a pretty good tackler, won't help much in coverage though.
But remember Bowles used Deone Bucannon as an ILB in Arizona in the role Lavonte plays now.
Bucannon and Keanu Neal are similar in that they are/were 'box' safeties that lacked the speed to play in the deep third. Both 1st round draft picks also fwiw.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Keanu Neal is a great signing. Experienced dude offering A+ depth, even an outside threat to start if folks get lazy, can offer reps as a backer especially in nickel packages. Sign me right up.
Gabbert is less exciting. I get that the core staff likes him, but carrying four QBs at the expense of other positions when we are all-in on Brady doesn't make sense to me. Gabbert and Griffin are redundant; both fit the mold of veteran players who know the offense. Imo, we should keep one of them and jettison the other. Maybe we're just keeping them for being a camp arm, I dunno.

This is where I'm at. The "Trask is still developing" thing was cute at first, mostly because it was inconsequential, but come on. If you can't even make it to #2? What is his purpose?

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Imagine being in a world where a 24 year old redshirt senior with 27 games played in college and was drafted in the 2nd round is "still developing" going into year 2.
@PetePierson what's that thing you say, he needs more time?
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Maybe he needs glasses? Or a better running back? Or a coach who plays to his abilities? Or a valid kicker who can win him close games?
Or more time?
Or more time?
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Respectfully disagree with both of y'all. Trask didn't start in High School after his Freshman year (he was stuck behind D'Eriq King, who I have no doubt was a force of nature at that level.) He only started 2 years in college. It's not surprising he'd have a long development curve. The odds are pretty good that my son will have taken more snaps between prep/college before his Senior Year in High School than Trask did at both level combined.King Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 7:38 pmImagine being in a world where a 24 year old redshirt senior with 27 games played in college and was drafted in the 2nd round is "still developing" going into year 2.

Keeping Trask costs us nothing but a roster spot. That's NOT nothing, but weighed against the possibility - slim, but real - that he turns into an asset, it's still a good tradeoff IMHO.
We have a Superbowl Contender. I can understand why OBP doesn't want to be a hit away from handing it to a first time starter. I also believe that the same thing that happened this year is likely to happen next year - Gabbert or Griffin will get cut and Trask will be the #3. Hell, he could still be the #2. But I don't think he'll be the #4.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
We have 34 on offense
28 on defense
5 on special teams
6 picks at the moment
That leaves 17 camp invites.

Fellas, it's April.
We aren't deciding the depth chart or how many QBs to carry in April. We're sowing the roster, harvest comes in September.

I guess I notice six or seven new players, could Doc be right?
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I think we may have set a record for passing out Super bowl rings to players that have barely even had any meaningful snaps in the NFL.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
Let's See Here:
- G Shaq Mason
- OL Fred Johnson
- S Keanu Neal
- DB Logan Ryan
- WR Russell Gage
I think those are all the established veterans who weren't on the roster last year. I'm sure there are a handful of "tryout" type players floating around the roster also.
And the Veteran Losses:
- G Alex Cappa
- S Jordan Whitehead
- RB Ronald Jones
- G Ali Marpet (Retired)
- WR Antonio Brown (Insane)
- TE OJ Howard
Still TBD (that we might want to keep)
- DL Kong Suh
- TE Gronk
- EDGE JPP

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
We add 2 slow players to a slow defense? How does that make sense? The only answer I can come up with is the players coming thru the mill have poorly developed brains.
Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I wouldn't say slow. Both Ryan and Neal would would run neck and neck with Whitehead. And we're getting faster by subtraction without Richard Sherman, Anthony Adams, JPP, and Suh on the field (not that Suh's footspeed matters a ton.)
More importantly, these are smart players. I'd rather have a guy who runs a 4.6 and starts the snap knowing where the ball is going versus a guy who runs a 4.4 and has to react to everything.

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
We'll never, ever top what Tony Dungy did. He gave Edgerrin James a Superbowl Ring for the 2006 Colts team. James left the Colts before the season to play for the Cardinals. Dungy gave him the ring anyway. I'm sure the guys actually on the roster loved that.
