Do you not know what you're seeing? That play never had a chance even with the WR mishaps on the routes. That Giants Oline is one of the worst in football.
Do you not know the coaching has failed as far as offensive coordination?? It’s easily apparent unless you are a casual fan
Casual fans blame coaching while not holding players accountable. You pretend as if the multimillion dollar earning FOOTBALL PLAYERS don't know anything and are merely puppets on the field.

People go through this phase with every highly drafted QB.

Jones should've never been drafted as high as he was. He wasn't that good in college. He doesn't wow you with athletic ability or talent. His arm talent is mediocre. If he had been a 3rd round pick he would've been replaced by now.

The Giants need to rebuild that roster. Jones is not their only problem but you simply cannot win with a QB making the mistakes he does and being as unproductive as he is.
Sometimes, it's justified, at least in theory. There are some QBs who are drafted high who LOOK like they deserve to be drafted high when they're drafted, and they don't develop with the team that drafts them. Until the variables (in this case, their current team) are controlled for, it's reasonable to posit that they might not be the reason they're not living up to that tape.

Jones, as you indicate, was NOT that guy.

Taking him in the Top 10 was astounding at the time. He was NEVER that guy. He was one of these 2nd-3rd round QBs you see most years. Teams see some positive traits and figure, "Hey, at worst he can be a cost-controlled backup with some upside, and maybe he'll develop into something more." Kellen Mond is a great example of a guy like that. He had some good tape. The Vikings took him high third. At worst, he's likely a better option than they'd find on the market to back up Cousins, at a dirt-cheap price. But he could develop into a starter or a potential trade asset.

That's Jones. He has some good aspects to his gam. But he also has two glaring negative traits. One is his accuracy. This is one of the hardest things to fix. It happens (Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have both improved a ton in this regard) but it's rare. The other one literally can't be fixed - he has no feel for the game. I know that's vague but there's no other way to put it. He doesn't understand how to negotiate the rush, or the coverage. He doesn't have a functional internal clock. He doesn't make good decisions when he's off-schedule, and he doesn't have the arm talent to exploit opportunities when he's on-schedule. All this was pretty much true at Duke, also, but Gettleman apparently believed it was a function of how bad Duke's talent was around him. He was wrong.

Like Darnold from the previous draft, his future is becoming clear. He's going to roam the league for a decade on a series of one-year deals based on his draft status and the fact he's (by all accounts) a good guy in the locker room and the meeting room.

Interestingly, I also just described Blaine Gabbert, though it was easier to see Gabbert in the Top Ten based on his arm talent than it was Jones. Gabbert had no feel for the game.

Reading what you just wrote about Jones and Gabbert, where do you see Trask in the next 2-3 years? Does he have what it takes to take over once Brady hangs up his pads?

I remember when the media tried their damnedest to make Gabbert an equal to Cam Newton. But it was more-or-less a function of the overall QB class being so weak beyond Cam.

They didn't do that in 2019, but beyond Kyler Murray this was a bad QB class. Jones, Haskins, Drew Lock were the top 3 QBs taken. I believe many had Haskins as the 2nd best QB because he put up big numbers at a major program.

I have no clue where the love for Jones came from. For me this was along the lines of the Mitch Trubisky, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen head scratchers. None of those guys had special traits or abilities nor did they have standout college careers. But for some reason teams decided they were worth top 10 picks...

It's amazing what desperation can beget. We've seen it all too often with the Bucs.
