Oh I fully expect to hear rumblings this time next year no matter what about him being linked to another college job. It's simply who he is. He stayed at Michigan for 9 years. Prior to that, 3 years in San Diego, 4 at Stanford, 4 in San Francisco. He's always going to look for greener pastures.kaimaru wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 7:28 pmI assume you mean before he gets antsy for a new college gig. The think is that he and Balke didn't see eye to eye in San Francisco. Not so sure he wouldn't have stayed longer if they did. Then again, he drinks milk with steak so who knows. I am sure he will have a gallon minimum requirement per day for his players. I am sure he already called the nutritionist

He was one play away from beating his brother for a Super Bowl trophy. Put another 60 seconds on that clock and he wins it.
There are three men who have won national championships and Super Bowls as a head coach. If anyone has the capability of being the fourth, it's him.

I believe the 49ers would have won that night if the lights didn't go out.

Very exciting times for Charger fans
This offseason will be a big one and they’re sitting at a very great draft pick.

Latest I have read is that Bill Belichick may not be the HC of the Falcons. It was also reported that the Falcons are the only team serious about signing Belichick. The team owner wants him, but there are some in the front office who don't want him.

What could the Chargers get in a trade for QB Herbert?

Potentially one of the biggest hauls ever. He’s currently 25 years old.
This won’t happen though. The Chargers brought in Harbaugh to work with Herbert, not to take a stab at a new young QB.
Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
I believe you can only trade three years worth of picks.
So three ones, three twos and a player or two is my guess

Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
So my husband (who has never watched more than 10m minutes of football in his life) just walks into the room and asked me why the Bucs fired their coach if they were having such a great season. I was like WHAT???? He says yes, it is on Apple News.
So I check this forum first of course. Nothing.
Google Bowles fired. Nothing.
Go to Apple News: The NBA Bucks fired their coach
My poor sweet fabulous man.

I'd say he's at least worth what the Lions got for Stafford, 2 1sts, a 3rd and a quality starting QB. I don't think you can go as high as the package the Texans got for Deshaun Watson because Herbert hasn't had the winning Deshaun, including division titles and playoff wins.

I think the chargers would be able to tug a little more out of their trade partner.Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 9:59 pmI'd say he's at least worth what the Lions got for Stafford, 2 1sts, a 3rd and a quality starting QB. I agree. The Stafford package is the starting point. Maybe another player or another pick.acmillis wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 6:07 amI think the chargers would be able to tug a little more out of their trade partner.Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 9:59 pm

Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
Actually, the lights going out is the reason they were in it. Baltimore was dominating up until that point. San Fran took over the game after that.
Very plausible move. He'll have to take a long, hard look at Herbert. But if he drafts his own QB, Herbert could be a bargaining chip for another high draft pick for some help at another position of need.
Hold that thought for a second. If you're gonna hire a guy like Harbaugh, you have to let him hand pick his GM. In that case, if he wants to draft a QB, his GM will draft a QB and jettison Herbert.Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 9:36 pmPotentially one of the biggest hauls ever. Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
Yeah there is zero chance the Chargers hired Harbaugh to start over. Harbaugh was 100% hired with Herbert in mind. You don’t just get rid of 25 year old QBs with the ability he has to take another lottery ticket for a rookie QB.
Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
We'll see how good Justin Herbert is this year. If not, Harbaugh will turn to his QB of his choice.

Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
He's seen by most as a top 5 QB in the NFL as a 25 year old. Even if he's not, he's certainly in the top tier. He just signed a 5 year 262mm contract and in 13 games threw for over 3k yards and 20 TDs. He's a fan/league favorite and is considered the centerpiece of the franchise and the main attraction that Harbaugh had in going there.
Even if people think he's overrated a bit, like Bootz, most don't expect to be able to win the lottery and find better.
If Harbaugh was able to convince ownership to trade him (not sure how) and he drafted someone without immediate success, he'd be fired.
Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
Exactly. I never pretend that he's a bum. He absolutely has the talent to succeed in this league. But to me succeeding is winning games and championships. Herbert to this point has lost more than he's won.uscbucsfan1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:31 pmHe's seen by most as a top 5 QB in the NFL as a 25 year old. But you're going to have an extremely hard time replacing him. Harbaugh + Herbert SHOULD yield great results.

I think they'll take JJ in the 2nd round.
Back ups are pricey, but also shown can save your season. JJ would give Jim a great contingency against a Herbert injury or regression with little pressure.

I mentioned you because you've been clear that you don't think he's on the Mahomes level like some, but he's still very good. He just finds ways to lose at times and it's a concern for you.Bootz wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:34 pmExactly. I never pretend that he's a bum. He absolutely has the talent to succeed in this league. Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
The idea of a coach coming in and just getting rid of the QB is one that doesn’t happen as much in reality as people thinks it does. Obviously when the team stinks and has a bad QB you see a change, but coaches don’t take over and get rid of good QBs for “their own guy.” The only time I can remember something like that happening was Josh McDaniels trying to dump Jay Cutler for Matt Cassell and it ended up being a terrible decision and made McDaniels a laughing stock.
You just don’t trade 25 year old QBs of Herbert’s caliber unless they are disgruntled and demand the trade.

Happy for Canales and Rah, but I think they’ll both do well. Which sucks haha
Re: 2024 NFL Coaching Hire Tracker
That is crazy. Now if we can get the saints to hire Greg Schiano then it'll complete the set!

I thought it was a done deal with Bellichick to the Falcons. Apparently he wanted to go there.
