The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Speaking of WR's were 2 short on the roster and 2 short on the practice squad.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Damn OBJ to Ravens
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
ESPN saying OBJ deal is one year, 15M guaranteed.
15m for him… GTFO

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
But won't pay Lamar
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
They wanted to pay Lamar $133 million guaranteed. It would have been the 2nd most money guaranteed at signing in the history of the league. More that twice as much as Mahomes got at signing for a much longer deal.
It's okay to be a Lamar fan. It's okay to advocate for fully guaranteed contracts, a la the other three leagues. And you can do both while still acknowledging that Jackson badly overplayed his hand.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
The Ravens have been in panic mode since this Lamar Jackson debacle started. This is a desperation signing. Theoretically OBJ would persuade Lamar to either sign his tag or sign whatever lowball offer the Ravens gave.Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 11:51 pmI heard the Ravens panicked at the Jets meeting and decided to pony up the cash. I honestly didn’t think Odell had a chance of getting this kind of paycheck so good on him and his agent.
In reality, what they did was pay $18mil to a 31 year old receiver who hasn't played since February 2022 and hasn't had a 1000 yard season since pre-Covid. This is all about optics.

Good (but long) read on why you should never draft a RB in the first round...ever: https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2023/stor ... n-robinson
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Imagine being confident off 13 data points.
I hope more GMs feel this way. I still doubt there's any way it happens but if Bijan could be there at 19 that would be a dream.

As with all observations, there will be outliers. Those outliers do not disprove the theory.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Interesting read.
PFF says the Bucs are one of the best teams for finding value in Round 4-7 picks but have been in the bottom half of the league drafting in Round 1-3. They look at this data in a 2011-2022 period as well as a 2017-2022 period. We saw improvement in these metrics when moving from time period 2011-2022 to 2017-2022.
So we’ve gotten better at drafting over the years but still aren’t great.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
These "metrics" are always fun to look over but most are closer to power rankings than actual analytics. (I can hear Nobody crying into his DVOAs.)

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
That kind of surprises me because the only day 3 pick we’ve made since 2011 that’s really had a big long term impact was William Gholston. Who was always a rotation guy. Hell, you can argue the best player the Bucs drafted on day 3 in that period was a kicker we cut after one year that ended up becoming a Pro Bowler and kicked a game winning FG against us in the playoffs.Sdbucs wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 10:33 am

I get it’s harder to find hits in day 3, but looking over the list of guys we’ve taken there from 2011-2022 isn’t anything special. Meanwhile we literally drafted the core of a Super Bowl team in rounds 1-3 from around 2017-2020.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Okudah dealt for a 5th rounder. Bustola.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
It's honestly shocking considering how good he was at OSU. Shawn Springs was one of the best college corners I've ever seen and Okudah was in the ballpark as a Buckeye. Oh well.

Jets gonna Jet.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Jets GM said Rodgers will be Jets soo
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Non story.
Given there are no other teams involved there isn't much of a reason to do the trade before the draft.

Given that there are no other teams involved, there's also no reason this should be dragging as much as it is. Procrastination can't be an excuse.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Except there are.
For one, in the event there is actually some sort of hold up, like say the Packers demanding 13th pick, then the Jets merely need to wait until after Day 1 when that's no longer an option and the Packers will be pressed to cut their losses.
What is more likely is that there is a tentative agreement, say both the Jets 2nd rounder picks and next years 3rd (with the option to be a 2nd).
But if someone the Packers love drops to 13, they could perhaps offer the Jets to keep their second rounders and throw in a 3rd of their own. (Which Jets don't have).
Jets would go from having Rodgers and a single Day 1/2 pick to Rodgers and three Day 2 picks. Or maybe Jets trade down in the first and that changes things. Depending on how each teams board looks like and who falls where there are a lot of different variations of what essentially amounts to mostly the same trade. Point is neither team really gains anything except losing out on possible options by pulling the trigger earlier.
Now, of course, any of that can change in an instant if another player or team gets involved, but if that was to going to happen it would've likely happened already.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Or the Packers just keep the HOF 3x MVP on their team - where he said he’d be okay playing anyways - and the jets are utterly fuckeroonied
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
He won’t play for the packers
He wants to play for the Jets
The hold up was the first round draft pick the Jets don’t want to give up on 39 years old QB
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Jets are doing the right thing (has anyone ever said taht....ever?!?!?). GB has no leverage whatsoever. They've publicly committed to trading Rodgers. Why would NYJ not hold GB's collective feet to the fire.
I'm sure GB is asking for 2023's first rounder and NYJ is (rightfully so) telling them to pound sand. NYJ will come out on top in this situation with a (potential) franchise QB and their 2023 1st still in their own hands.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Rodgers has long talked about how it would be great to play for one team his entire career.
He would be willing to play for GB again. He’s passing up a metric fuckton of money if he retires.

This deal isn't done because they can't agree on compensation. Packers want a 2023 2nd & 2024 1st. Jets aren't biting because it's quite possible Aaron Rodgers doesn't play past 2023. Everyone knows this, even them.

Stop. No one knows shit.
Also a second 2023 2nd > 2024 first. Especially since there will probably be like 15 drafts spot difference.

You are correct. No one in here knows shit. But it's very likely that someone will accidentally be right and they'll be in here crowing about how offseason football smart they are. lol
