Camp battle between him and Stinnie.

Trench depth is always good.

Kicking a tackle inside is a technique that has worked time and time again.

Licht drafts OL better than any other position group so I will trust this.

This kid is telling his dad that he will commit murder to protect Tom Brady right now.

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Central Michigan, Goedeke held down the right tackle position in head coach Jim McElwain’s zone-blocking scheme. With very few options out of high school, he bet on himself by playing tight end at the Division III level before transferring up to the MAC and transitioning to the offensive line.
Goedeke is a finisher in the run game and does a great job staying connected to blocks with his strong hands and balance through contact. In pass protection, he needs to work on his anchor and reset, but he has an active punch and usually keeps his upper and lower halves on the same page. Overall, Goedeke has only two years of playing experience on the offensive line and it shows at times, but he has outstanding play strength with enough lower body fluidity to stay centered in his blocks. He fits best inside where he has NFL starting potential at guard.

This guy projects as a guard in the NFL. The question is, can he handle the left side since he played on the right side in college?

Was this guy a BPA? Why trade up 3 spots to get him?

We must have liked him quite a bit. Licht drafted the best Oline in the league. It’s an extremely boring pick right now. But there is no reason to not be optimistic about this guy.

Cappa was also from a 'where the fuck is that' type of school so Licht has a history of hitting on obscure OL prospects.

Licht trading up for a small school offensive tackle that will kick inside to Guard on day 2 of the draft is 2/2 with Marpet and Cappa.

Let's hope this kid makes it 3/3.

No position group is more important to the 2022 Bucs than Oline. If Brady is protected we can win every game.

Because Licht loves reminding us that he likes getting his ass handed to him in draft day trades.

I've thought about this and I'm thinking they had White on a short list at 91 and they were worried Minnesota was going after Goedeke. He was showing up as a 4th rounder who I thought could prove to be a better than that player.

Could be that the Bucs felt safe in the beginning that they would have Strange or Goedeke around in the 3rd or 4th but NE blew that all up.

What I know:

He came to school as a tight end. His redshirt year, he transitioned to the OL for the first time in his life. The next year, he was starting at Right Tackle. He missed a year with a knee injury but came back strong last year.

Plus athleticism, good size, and plays with a nasty streak. And he can probably play three spots on the line if needed. Worst case, I think, is he loses out to Stinnie as a rookie, spends the year as a swing lineman, and takes another shot at the starting job in 2023.

Also, credit where it's due - Licht has been very good at evaluating offensive linemen (maybe because I believe he was one?) Donovan Smith isn't anyone's favorite, but results are results. Ali Marpet was an all-time great Bucs pick. Cappa was a rock. Wirfs was another all-time great Bucs pick.

If Licht feels like Goedeke is going to be a great player for us, I trust him 100% in this case.

That's really what it comes down to with this pick. JL has more than earned his cred and trust in this area. And the dude reaks of a Licht guy through and through.

Maybe he's a plug and play starter. If not it's because Stinnie is playing playoff well, which is a win in itself. Undersung is that we can even kick him out to RT should Wirfs get hurt again and possibly avoid another disasterous Wells showing.

Yep. He's definitely going to be the Emergency RT.

Would have been real nice to have him around last season.

Yeah if Goedeke loses out to Stinnie it's because Stinnie is playing his ass off. No knock on Stinnie as an athlete but based on his numbers and the tape I've seen Goedeke has a rare level of athleticism that you don't usually see in OGs. He's so quick for someone his size and he plays with every bit of power that he has.
