That’s silly, put 99 next to Vea for a beastly Dline

One does wonder how he would perform with one on one. Being the only huge guy for Georgia I'm just guessing he gets doubled most of the time.

So far not sold on him for a first pick.

Prior to your post, I'd never heard of him. Some sleuthing deduces that he's a big tackle playing for Northern Iowa, and apparently he has some first round buzz due to his strength and dominance against lower competition.

Thankfully, there is some tape to watch against good competition. Here he is this year against Iowa State, who at the time was the number 7 team in the country. He's number 70 at left tackle:

There's plenty to like. His play strength is good, he locks on well in the run game, and he finishes his blocks, though none of those positive qualities are dominant. But a left tackle in the pros? I doubt it. He plays high, doesn't drop his ass in pass pro, demonstrates consistently poor balance, and most damningly has slow and lumbering feet. That footwork will force him to kick inside to guard as a pro, most likely in a gap scheme where he can try to bully people. His lack of movement skills are going to cross him off the board for some teams.

I don't see a first round talent. If I were to guess, maybe somewhere in the fourth as a developmental guy.

He's not necessarily a prospect - yet, anyway, he's flashing here and there - but who cares at this point. Tell me this isn't the best name in football - or, at least, the most fun to say.

Texas A&M got a commitment Saturday from the No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2022 class -- Walter Nolen.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound defensive tackle from Powell, Tennessee, chose the Aggies over Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Michigan. He is the first No. 1 commit for coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff since joining Texas A&M.

Yeah I mentioned him at some point. He’s gonna be a good pro I think. Not sure about his hands. But he couldn’t be any worse than Vaughn (who may or may not exist).

I've got the rare Husker - TE Austin Allen.

6'8 255. Soft hands. Very good at finding holes in the zone. Has the frame and the tools to develop into a really good in-line blocker. He's not a Z/Hybrid type. Really long strider. Will time at about a 4.8 and he plays it. But there just aren't many TEs coming into the league anymore who are both plus blockers and useful targets (he gets set a Nebraska record for catches in a season at the position.)

He's probably Day Three, but he's going to be a good pro.

I know it wouldn't be a responsible pick at a big need or anything, but Drake London out of USC reminds me of a young Mike Evans. Not as strong but has more wiggle. We're it not for his ankle injury earlier this year, he would have been in the running for the Biletnikoff.

If he makes it to the end of the second, I would be mighty tempted. One could easily argue against it, with bigger needs and that Brady seems to target the smaller quicker guys more often anyways. But I'd also be hard pressed to put London with a better mentor than Mike Evans.

I really really really want Jordan Davis in a Bucs uniform. Him and Vea on the field together could shift our whole defense around to a base 2-4-5 three high safety look that would be hard to run against and give our defense great protection against deep passes.

@Nobody @Cheb

Thoughts on our base defense looking like this in 2022?

Vea Davis
JTS White David Shaq
CD3 Dean
AWJ JW Mike

I don’t have anything to offer unfortunately. You, and anyone else, have a far more informed opinion on Davis than I do.

Haven’t watched a lick of NCAA Football and the sun has set on my time investment evaluating prospects for the upcoming draft.

Once we draft dudes, I’ll take a look at them, but that’s about it for me.

He'd be a dream in the Kong Suh role in this scheme. But he's a Top 15 pick, probably Top 10. Possibly, with great workouts, Top 5. Unless he completely bombs the process AND we lose out, he's not falling to us.

Y'all need to watch my guy from UConn if you're looking to fill that spot. Travis Jones. 6'4 330. 88 tackles and 8 sacks his last 2 seasons. If he can commit to conditioning (he showed up to college over 360) he's going to be a monster.

Tossing his name out a few years early, but Clemson freshman DB Andrew Mukuba. He jumps off the screen at you. Every. Game. Early this season, and as a Clemson fan, he was the first "who's THAT guy" moment I've had over someone previously unknown to me since Dexter Lawrence kept demanding to be noticed.

Revisit in a couple of years.....

Ha! Shit you not, I just googled to make sure I spelled his name right. Yesterday, he won ACC defensive rookie of the year. I had no idea. I guess other people have noticed, too.

I really want to like Jordan Davis, and to be fair there's a lot to like. He's 6'6", 340lb, the leader of his defense, likely all-American, likely national champion, a dark horse Heisman candidate at defensive tackle. The idea of a massive human to pair with Vea in the middle to dominate poor interior linemen is very appealing. And yet...

He plays high as fuck and he's consistently slow off the line. His balance is atrocious, he ends up on the ground alot. Despite his size, he gets blown up by doubleteams on the reg, can't anchor for beans. His snap-to-snap consistency is bad. His pass rushing suite is mostly just straight bullrushes, though he does flash an occasionally effective swim. Don't get me wrong, when he's singleblocked he can occasionally make some noise, but he doesn't scream future All-Pro to me.

When all I knew about Davis was my idea of the player he was (see paragraph one), I was all aboard. When I actually sat down to watch his film (vs Clemson and Florida this year), I was a bit disappointed to be honest.

He ain't no Vita Vea, that's for sure. Vea has more movement skills in his broken tooth than Davis has in his whole body.

You know who he reminds me of? A young Albert Haynesworth.

He won't last to our pick I should think, but even if he did I'd be a bit leery. Thanks but no thanks. Not saying he's doomed to bust, but it wouldn't shock me.
