They are stupid boobs, at that. It's not even an attractive look, and I would have no time or inclination to deal with that train wreck of a narcissistic whore.

Translation: I'm old. But she's still stupid.

There are 4 teams - CLE, PIT, Oakland, BALT whose entire team opening day payroll is less than Scherzer’s salary this year

The Rays get to open the season, at home, playing two of them.

Crazy, the Rays will be the big spenders in the house.

MLB making some history yesterday.
Giants' Alyssa Nakken becomes first woman to make on-field MLB appearance
The history-making moment came days after Rachel Balkovec began her managerial career calling the shots for a New York Yankees farm club.

Once the ratings get so bad (whatever that means) where they don’t care of Daryl Strawberry is doing blow in between each pitch while in the box….. so, soon.

Little less than that in the end. Mariners pay $4 mil / year. And they had to pay that the year he was suspended.

But cutting him was the right move. I'm happy we seem to have ownership that wont make money the primary factor when making roster moves.

Looks like Canó is signing with San Diego. If he signs today, that's another $750000/182*146 saved! Roughly.

I had no idea the Orioles brought him back. I was happy for him last year, he seemed to really find a groove early in the season. Then he pitched against the Mets, got lit the fuck up, and wasn't right again.

Man... The park was fun when he pitched. The most electric regular season game I've ever been to was the night they captured the Boston marathon bomber. It was Harvey vs Strasburg. Park was maybe half full, but the crowd got to Stras early. Chanting HARVEY'S BETTER the whole night had him rattled. Even when he batted.

Friday night? Pfft.... You know he was coked out of his brain and was going to be lights out, shut down the opposition, scrooge mcduck dive into some more coke, then go fuck a model.

That injury. Man... Just derailed the whole thing. If mlb didn't test him when he was pitching with a bloody nose, they'd let him stay as high as he wanted. Damn shame.

And also no surprise that mlb is giving a punishment to someone who helped them out with their investigation.

The only reason I remember it was the night they caught the bomber was once that buzz started to spread, it only had the crowd more amped. It was alternating HARVEY'S BETTER and USA USA USA chants the whole game.

Yeah, it's time. They also need to get new hitting coach. Mike Trout has gone 0-for-26 with nine strikeouts.

Crazy

Baseball stinks.

This is from a jaded Pirates fan. And a 31 year old who never played. Soccer players got made fun of by Baseball players and they did nothing at all. We had skill.

Apologies for the political angle, but the justice department is looking at MLB over minor league teams getting shut down, players making less than minimum wage, etc.

This is the first I'm hearing about it, but is anyone following this? Is it that bad in the minors? The minor league teams in Charleston and Pensacola are popular.

Yes, I’ve been following it for years on a baseball forum. Even hardcore capitalists look at the minor league baseball system and go “damn! That’s a little messed up.”

Teams draft players. Or sign international players to deals. The most money any of those players will make prior to making the majors is their signing bonus. A first round pick has signing bonuses in the millions. They’re well off, but they are not the norm. A 40th round pick might make $1500 as a bonus. Then they’re on the minor league pay scale for game checks. The problem is, the commitment is way beyond the 3 to 4 hour baseball game. They’re riding on buses for 10 hours every third day. They’re doing rehab/prehab every day. They’re showing up to the ballpark hours before the game. It works out to below minimum wage.

What’s worse is, the infrastructure to support them is terrible. Most teams do not provide food for them. Or if they do, it’s not very good. There are not team facilities where players can stay. Many players end up shacking up with volunteer families. Like foreign exchange students. Except grown men who hit a ball.

I’ve personally don’t get it from the MLB ownership perspective. If I’m going to physically develop these guys. Especially the 17-21 year olds, i’m going to spend a little bit amount of money to get a team chef for every location. maybe build some dorms or something. They are signing individual players to $300m $400m $500m contracts. While literally 100+ minor-league players in each team’s system are barely scraping by. Exceptional players might stay in the minors for a couple years. The average baking time is more like four or five. It’s a long time to be under those conditions.

Minor-League Baseball Players' 1st 2022 Paychecks Reportedly Revealed in Screenshots
SCOTT POLACEK
APRIL 16, 2022

Minor-League baseball players reportedly received their first 2022 paychecks, and the four examples shared by Advocates for Minor Leaguers were all less than $100:

While Major League Baseball was under the spotlight this offseason as the league and the Players Association attempted to come together on a collective bargaining agreement to end the league-initiated lockout, the living conditions of minor leaguers has received more attention of late as well.

Social media has been a major part of that development, and Advocates for Minor Leaguers has highlighted cases of players sleeping in cars and receiving lackluster meals in the recent past.

In July 2021, Alex Shultz of SFGate reported players on the Low-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics ended up paying more to stay in team hotels than they made on their paychecks for homestands with fewer housing options without host families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported Major League Baseball decided it would require teams to provide housing for minor leaguers starting with the 2022 campaign.

"This is a historic victory for minor league baseball players," Harry Marino, executive director of Advocates of Minor Leaguers, said. "When we started talking to players this season about the difficulties they face, finding and paying for in-season housing was at the top of almost every player's list. As a result, addressing that issue became our top priority."

Evan Drellich and Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic reported in March a federal judge ruled minor leaguers should be considered employees all year with Major League Baseball as a joint employer with teams.

The ruling provided more than $1.8 million in damages for a California claim and set the stage for a June trial for an Arizona claim.

Earlier this month, the Associated Press (h/t ESPN) reported the Major League player union provided $50,000 to ununionized minor leaguers in November 2021.

This is more of a problem for the players - they’re the ones making the decision to play minor league baseball - but there are dozens if not hundreds of guys who end up playing minor league baseball for 10+ years. They age out and enter the work force with zero real work experience or skills. It’s a problem, especially if their high school or alma mater isn’t hiring a new baseball coach.

We have a AA team in my city; the players are usually shacked up with volunteer families as Someone above said. Even Andrew McCutchen(Pirates great) had the same treatment. It’s pretty gross when you pay 11.00 for a Burger at the game, and the guys playing aren’t even gonna make that much an hour.
