Defense5599's Mock Draft (Version 1.0)

Post by Defense5599 »

OK everyone. Now that the Super Bowl is in the books and the draft order is set, I figured we could have a little fun with a first round mock draft. I will do another one closer to the draft after free agency is complete in order to see how team's needs have changed. Here are the rules for this draft:

- Make only one pick, then let 2-4 picks go by before picking again.
- When making a pick, explain why you picked the guy you did and how he fits into the team's needs.
- Keep your eyes peeled. Don't pick a player who has already been taken. And don't let a top pick drop too far.
- NO TRADES. I know there will be some in the real draft, but for the purpose of keeping things simple, we won't have them here

Below is the draft order:

1 Jacksonville Jaguars- Evan Neal
2 Detroit Lions- Aidan Hutchinson
3 Houston Texans- Hamiclar Rashed Jr.
4 New York Jets- Kayvon Thibodeaux
5 New York Giants- Ikem Ekwonu
6 Carolina Panthers- Kenny Pickett
7 New York Giants (via CHI)- Kyle Hamilton
8 Atlanta Falcons- David Ojabo
9 Denver Broncos- Matt Corral
10 New York Jets (via SEA)- Charles Cross
11 Washington Commanders- Garrett Wilson
12 Minnesota Vikings- Ahmad Gardner
13 Cleveland Browns- Chris Olave
14 Baltimore Ravens- Kenyon Green
15 Philadelphia Eagles (via MIA)- Derek Stingley Jr
16 Philadelphia Eagles (via IND)- George Karlaftis
17 Los Angeles Chargers- Jordan Davis
18 New Orleans Saints
19 Philadelphia Eagles
20 Pittsburgh Steelers
21 New England Patriots
22 Las Vegas Raiders
23 Arizona Cardinals
24 Dallas Cowboys
25 Buffalo Bills
26 Tennessee Titans
27 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
28 Green Bay Packers
29 Miami Dolphins (via SF)
30 Kansas City Chiefs
31 Cincinnati Bengals
32 Detroit Lions (via LAR)

And that being said.....

WELCOME TO THE 2022 NFL DRAFT!!! THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS ARE NOW ON THE CLOCK!!!

With the first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select....

OT EVAN NEAL- ALABAMA

When you buy a new car, you always want to buy a good insurance policy right afterwards. The Jags drafted their franchise QB last year in Trevor Lawrence (new car). This year, they draft a dominating left tackle to protect Lawrence. Neal can do it all. He is an explosive blocking machine who has the footwork and lateral quickness to take on any edge rusher in the NFL but is also a powerful road grader who can neutralize defenders at the point of attack.

THE DETROIT LIONS ARE NOW ON THE CLOCK!!!!

I asked "you know what would be great?"

Swash thought they had the answer and replied.

I replied to Swash that the answer was wrong.

I’ll play.

Detroit Lions select DE Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan.

If there is anything Dan Campbell likes more than biting knee caps, it’s building the trenches. Without a QB worth the pick here, Detroit gets the native kid to build their defense around.

With the 3rd pick the Texans take Hamilcar Rashed Jr., Oregon State. Houston's defense needs a shoring up, big time. Rashed Jr. is the run stopper they need. I was tempted to go QB here but that defense is abysmal. This pick is at least a start to correct that.

With the 4th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select....

EDGE KEYVON THIBODEAUX- OREGON

The Jets pass rush in 2021 was non existent, which is a big reason why they kept blowing leads late in games. It's unthinkable that Thibodeaux would drop this far as some draft experts had him going number one overall. He has a high motor and will fight to the finish. The Jets snatch him up to instantly upgrade their pass rush.

With the 6th pick, the Carolina Panthers select Kenny Pickett, QB, Pitt.

Carolina goes with the best QB prospect of the draft. After dealing with Cam, Bridewater, Darnold, and back to Cam, the team needs to figure out their QBOTF. This pick may buy Rhule more time if the rookie shows promise.

With the 7th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select....

S KYLE HAMILTON- NOTRE DAME

The Giants helped their pass rush last year by drafting Ojulari out of Georgia. Now they get some much needed help in their secondary drafting the versatile Notre Dame safety. Hamilton can play both safety positions, can cover like a blanket, and can serve as "buck linebacker" if need be.

With the 9th pick in the draft, the Denver Broncos select Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss.

Denver would love to add a veteran signal caller this off-season. But with the way things stand now, they take a shot on a high upside QB prospect to take command of the offense.

With the 10th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select....

OT CHARLES CROSS- MISSSISSIPPI STATE

The Jets addressed their pass rush, and now they address their biggest problem on offense.... blocking the pass rush. Zach Wilson was harrassed a lot last season. With the addition of the best left tackle on the board, that will change.

Back to the CB well after some draft misses.

With the 13th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select...

WR CHRIS OLAVE OHIO STATE

When Odell Beckham Jr left, the Browns lost their one big play receiver who can stretch the field and give Baker Mayfield a consistent target. The Browns look to a place not far from home to regain such talent, bringing the playmaking receiver from Columbus a couple hours to the north.

With the 14th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select OT/OG Kenyon Green, Texas A&M. Got to protect Lamar Jackson up the middle. He is versatile, playing both positions this year but better at OG. There might be sexier picks but offensive line is the best bet as they need all the help they can get in the trenches, I would not be surprised with a DL pick but this is my bet.

With the 15th pick, the Philadelphia Eagles select Derek Stingley Jr, CB, LSU.

An immense talent slips no further. Eagles have 3 first rounders and kick things off by addressing the secondary.

With the 16 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select....

EDGE GEORGE KARLAFTIS PURDUE

The Eagles defense was their Achillies heel last season, and a big reason they barely slipped into the playoffs and got dispatched easily in the wild card round. They address their secondary with the first of three round picks, and now they address their pass rush by taking the best edge rusher still left on the board. Karlaftis didn't get a lot of sacks in his final year at Purdue but he did provide a lot of QB hurries.

Um, 3 Houston Texans- Hamiclar Rashed Jr. was undrafted last year and was on the NY Jets practice squad. Defense5599, are we going back to 3 of if DMTNT can think of who he was thinking of, maybe where they were left picked?

He needs to respond soon. Otherwise continue. On a side note, that would be typical Houston Texans tomfoolery.

With the 17th pick, the LA Chargers select Jordan Davis, DT, UGA.

The Bolts need to get better at run defense if they want to make the playoffs, Davis should help remedy that in a hurry.
