Drug addiction ain't a joke. If McCoy simply fucked up and took something he wasn't supposed to then it's one thing. But if it's something deeper let it be proof it can happen to anyone and I would pray he gets the help he needs.

I doubt this is a drug addiction. If McCoy does have one, this isn't necessarily a symptom. It strikes me as the act of a desperate older player trying to hang on. I've seen it before across various sports. As the body ages and it becomes harder and harder to bounce back, the athlete starts grasping for anything to help them recover and get back in the game close to the level they used to play at.

He tested positive for a banned substance. The NFL has a pretty lengthy list of banned substances. The list is so extensive that if a player isn't careful, he could ingest a banned substances and fail a drug test without even realizing it. I've seen players fail drug tests after taking cold medicine (something my 11 year old niece can walk into a drug store and buy over the counter). I've seen players fail drug tests after eating poppy seed bagels.

McCoy screwed up by not being careful with what he was taking. But he's no junkie or cheater.

This to me doesn't scream that McCoy is a junkie. It says that he wasn't careful. But even if you're careful, it's not hard to accidentally take something you shouldn't.

To compare this to someone with actual drug abuse problems is the definition of being obtuse.
