This seems fair for everyone involved. Baker gets rewarded for last year's play, we get some stability at the position for the next three years, and both camps can reevaluate in in 36 months when Baker's going into his age 32 season.

Was hoping we’d go after McCarthy in the draft. Still not sold on Baker but we’ll see. Hope it works out. Much tougher schedule next year.
9-8 is a good season? You definitely are the type of person this organization is counting on. Mediocre wearing the mask of success is enough for you.
LOL, Licht's tenure needed the GOAT to be successful. If Brady retired or went elsewhere, you realize there's a really good chance, that Licht isn't the GM right now, right? Heading into the 2020 offseason, we were letting Winston walk... were we not? In the draft, Burrow, Tua, and Herbert all went in the top 10... we had pick 14. What's the plan? It's either trade up (meaning future #1's), to get Herbert or Tua AND no Wirfs. It also means we're picking in the top 15 in 2021... with no first round pick. It also means we're probably not re-signing Barrett who would've made bank somewhere else. Or do we take Jordan Love? Sure, we know what he looks like now, after sitting 4 years behind Rodgers... but would he have looked starting Day 1 with Arians?
The only reason people signed and were happy was SOLELY because Brady was here and the team knew they could win and a lot of guys to team friendly deals. NONE of that happens without Brady. ALL of that happens WITH Brady, even if Licht wasn't here. You're kidding yourself if you think it's because of Licht.
My god, man. Why are you even a Bucs fan? lol

Nice deal. This is essentially the same as giving Baker the franchise tag without the huge cap hit. He's either getting cut or extended with the way the guarantees set up next year.

So, how much effective cap space do we have now. What are we projected to have next year when we pay Wirfs?
Bakers big hits probably coming in 2026 and beyond.
I can't tell you how great it feels to feel good about QB. Baker has all the heart and leadership you want from the position. You don't think Mike Evans is about getting another chip? He knows Baker can get it done. He's betting the last of his prime on it. Bowles and Licht betting their careers on it. Baker is also a BA darling. All these people WANT each other in their lives and WANT to play of each other. I can't tell you how incredible that is.
The Bucs will be dangerous again next year. Bet your bottom dollar.
I would’ve bet my firstborn that the bucs re-signed Baker. I don’t think there was any other way forward. Bowles and Licht weren’t about to hitch their careers to a late first round rookie QB and/or hope their favorite quarterback would fall in the draft. The possibility of shipping out a bunch of draft capital to move up didn’t really pass the sniff test either. Ownership is a fan of Baker. He wants to be in Tampa, he’s had success already, etc.
I find myself pondering the probability of Baker having an equally good season in 2024.
Surface level reasoning suggests he may get even better. Maybe not statistically, but in his overall effectiveness:
- Even more time with the weapons.
- o-line gelling + likely adding interior talent.
- running game can’t be that bad again, can it?
The new coordinator is a wild card. he has a decent foundation on which to build. He can watch film from last season and steal a bunch of ideas from Canales. But everything changes once you’re in the moment and have to dial up the plays.
There’s also the reality that Baker has had an up-and-down career with some wide swings in performance.
I’m sure a smarter person than myself can look at the film and identify that Baker shored up some deficiencies and this bodes well.
If Baker can have a similar season, I will be a believer. But I need to see him do it again. He’s not elite. But if he plays within himself, doesn’t run into sacks and throw bad interceptions, you can win with him.

Now that the Pats have traded Mac Jones, what’s to stop them from making an offer to Baker Mayfield and then trading out of the #3 pick to rebuild for the future? Two drafts of a # of extra picks in the top half of the draft will have a 30 year old Mayfield leading a team that could compete in the AFC.
They’re picking at 3… plugging in Baker and missing out on a potential QBOTF at 3 is the opposite of rebuilding.
It’s all academic anyway, but the argument for trading out of the #3 pick is that the “QBOTF must be acquired at the top of the draft” is a limited way of viewing roster development, and that team is one of the weakest teams in terms of NFL talent in the sport.

No one is saying that. But you've had almost zero good to say about anything this organization has done since the end of the season. That's just unhealthy, man.
"three-year deal worth up to $115 million, with $50 million guaranteed."
"The deal breaks down as $30 million in 2024, $30 million in 2025, including $20 million guaranteed and $40 million in 2026. There is also $5 million per year worth of incentives, according to ESPN."

Not terrible for either side. Baker gets his and the Bucs have a decent QB for the next few years without breaking the bank.

So I point out FACTS, that Jason Licht is 43-70 in 7 seasons without Brady... 9 wins being the teams' highest win total, and 5 of those 7 seasons are losing seasons, that he hired and fired 2 coaches in the first 5 seasons, and only has 1 playoff win. Also pointed out FACTS that show Baker Mayfield's metrics all have him rated in the bottom third of the league as a starter... and that equates to me have nothing good to say about the organization? LOL

Not terrible for either side? I agree it's not terrible for the Bucs, but I don't think it's all that good... it's "meh". It's awesome for Baker. He got $50M for being below average. LOL

I think it points to me being objective.
75-88 even with Brady.
Licht struck lightning in a bottle with a 43 year old Brady deciding to continue his career, not having much of a market, and still playing at an elite level. That will be his legacy as Bucs GM.
