Now you have to take everything that is coming out from teams with a grain of salt because it is lying season. Nevertheless, if true, that means 2 teams with needs for a QB don't want Mayfield.
As I’ve said, no chance Baker signs with anyone else but Tampa. Which I’m not sure is a good thing. Time will tell.
Speaking from a "I want the Bucs to save money perspective," I think it is.

If Baker is asking for a higher number than the Bucs are comfortable with, and Baker then goes to free agency and finds his market is cooler than he expected or even non-existent, that gives Licht leverage in further negotiations. One might say a similar thing happened to Lavonte when he kicked the free agent tires prior to resigning with us a few years ago.

They still have nine, ten, or eleven of our own free agents that need a pay increase, plus money to sign our draft picks.

Only actual starters left are Baker, LaVonte, and the kicking unit McLaughlin and long snapper Triner.

It's all money to be spent, if we let go players that we have invested time in they will need to be replaced. Most everyone will be doing priority free agents again and we should to. Heck, some teams have so many picks they will make them 6th and 7th rounders.

Maybe we should just forfeit all our premium picks so we have more money for UDFAs?

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Mayfield and the Buccaneers remain engaged in contract talks but the two sides haven’t made progress on a new deal. There is also a “budgetary concern” in Tampa Bay, with some skeptical if the Glazer family would pay Mayfield more than the team paid Tom Brady (497.8 million over three seasons). Part of the worry is also tied to the need to sign Winfield Jr. and left tackle Tristan Wirfs to contract extensions that would make them two of the highest-paid NFL players.

I assume that supposed to read $98M over 3 seasons? Yeah, I get that. Weird to pay Mayfield more than they paid Tom.

Especially after Baker has been on record saying he knew there may need to be sacrifices made to get our guys back.

“Some skeptical”

Sounds like bullshit. Hopefully bullshit. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the glazer dumbasses don’t understand market forces and expanding cap limit

So it just reads like we either overpay baker or go a different direction

If no one else in the market is willing to pay him like $30 million a year, yeah, it would probably be stupid to do that

I’ve been his biggest proponent. But, that was also with the caveat that I expected he’d be willing to sign a team friendly-ish deal. Pushing for Jones deal+ is not a wise one for us.

It’s QB musical chairs at this point. There are honestly more QBs available than teams for them.

I think Licht has called the bluff and will let them test the market.

Why twist the overall picture just to take a jab at me, if the only players we sign are the four you named, the other twelve gotta come from somewhere.

Just a subtle jab at your propensity to overvalue the obscure. No malice.

Who out of our fringe free agents are you wanting to re-sign?

There are upgrades elsewhere either from other teams, the draft, or UDFAs.

The knowledge gods even know there is much more than the 321 players invited to the combine. Hey, ever how they do it. No stone left unturned - and cheaper can be better..

Now that the Pats have traded Mac Jones, what’s to stop them from making an offer to Baker Mayfield and then trading out of the #3 pick to rebuild for the future? Two drafts of a # of extra picks in the top half of the draft will have a 30 year old Mayfield leading a team that could compete in the AFC.

They’re picking at 3… plugging in Baker and missing out on a potential QBOTF at 3 is the opposite of rebuilding.

If the third pick is worth such a haul why not just draft that player?

New regime. New head coach. I’d think they’d want to start out that era with a face of the franchise type player.

But, you could be right that they’ll make an offer. Don’t think that has anything to do with Mac Jones though.

Baker Mayfied confirmed his three-year, $100 million deal with the Buccaneers. “I wanted a chance to come back,” Mayfied said. “I love coach Bowles and the staff. I’m happy to be here and I want to win more in the postseason.”

I think 3 years 100 million is what everyone’s been talking about so impressive we got it done considering the massive cap raise.

LFG!!!!

It's nice to have an answer at QB immediately after Brady left.

Baker is fun to watch and will keep us competitive for the foreseeable future.

I'm actually looking forward to this season unlike last.

Yessir. On the surface it looks like a “do it again” kind of deal. Excited to add more pieces to our team in the coming days.

Very nice deal. Assuming all of that 2026 $40m is non-guaranteed?

Welcome back Baker!

As someone who is lukewarm on Baker, i like the deal. Middle of the pack money for a middle of the pack qb.
