Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Reality check for ACC.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Perhaps FSU should cease complaining about being excluded from playoff.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Now I am currently anxious about the upcoming Michigan game. The SEC is a powerful conference.

Michigan vs Alabama
Should be a close game.
Michigan a much more focused squad than Alabama or Georgia.
Should be a definitive that the B1G is vastly superior to the undisciplined SEC in coverage and execution.

I believe McCarthy will find his rhythm.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Now I see why Mich had the reaction they did when the Alabama logo came up on the screen and not FSU’s.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Georgia's backup players played well. Please don't give me any excuses crap related to FSU.
GARBAGE!
GARBAGE!
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
63 fucking points!
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
62-3
12 minutes left..,
FSU shows how to abandon ship when faced with a real challenge.
Kudos FSU you made history…again.

The game was over early in the second quarter. Watching the rest of the game proved impossible, even though I'm neither a Georgia nor a FSU fan. It just looked like a college team playing a high school team. When Georgia went up by 60 points, I tuned in to the FCS semifinal that might actually still be a football game.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Forget the whole “FSU should be in the playoff” talk. There’s no way anyone can argue Georgia isn’t a top 4 team. And they didn’t even have Bowers. He may be the best player in next years draft.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Come on now, people. 23 opt-outs. Last I counted, that's more than you can even start. The game was a joke on ESPN and the committee, not on FSU.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
1) FSU’s starters would have still gotten crushed. Talent-wise, Georgia just so much better. The athleticism that team has is sick, and they were missing their best player.
2) Georgia put their backups in and still went up and down the field on them.
I like FSU…but they didn’t belong without Travis. That Louisville team they struggled with just got their ass whopped by a bunch of USC scrubs. This was more a case of the ACC being about as good as the MAC this year.

I have a hard time conflating depth with talent. I would want to see the best 22 v. the best 22. Oh well.Navybuc wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 8:28 pm1) FSU’s starters would have still gotten crushed. Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
And the whole "look who beat who" in these bowl games is a bad take. Is Ohio State weaker than Mizzou? Penn State just a crap program in a weak conference?
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Right.
OSU was missing QB1, lost QB2 after 5 mins, was missing LB1, WR1, WR2, RB2, and for whatever reason, reshuffled the o-line before the game. Which, I didn’t know last night and explains all the missed assignments.
Most of the non-CFP bowls are glorified scrimmages.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
The point I was trying to make is the ACC is just not that good this year. If you’re going to invite 4 Power-5 conferences into the playoff and one is going to get left out, it makes sense this is the year it’s the ACC. That’s not every year since the ACC has gotten the third most playoff teams in since the playoff era.
But just by the eye test, which is how we do this nowadays, FSU is not a top-4 team. Maybe with Travis, but def not without. And Georgia is really good. They woulda spanked prolly if FSU had Travis and Georgia still didn’t have Bowers. It’s just a mismatch of talent. A 12 team playoff and I’d put my money on Georgia to win it all. That’s the team that should be on. They’ve lost to one team in 3 years.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
I suppose I'm biased - well, I OBVIOUSLY am - but the same was said about Clemson when they just won a "weak" conference then boat raced Ohio State 31-0, then took Alabama to the last play of a game that wasn't supposed to be close. And again the next year when they boat raced Notre Dame 30-3 then took Alabama 44-16 in another game that wasn't supposed to be close, but the other way.Navybuc wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 8:38 pmThe point I was trying to make is the ACC is just not that good this year. Yes, I had to look up the scores, but still. You never can tell.

Look like there will be breaking news announcement of Jim Harbaugh leaving for
NFL next week or two.

i'll be thrilled if it's Bucs.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Let hope Sherrone Moore is not the coach. I don't think he is that good. IMO

Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
No doubt....it's one of the worst things about college football. The coach won't get punished, he goes finds a great new gig. The players will get punished.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
That Wisconsin player doing everything he possibly could to get flagged was both brilliant and funny as poo. Dude jumped, then put his hand on a lineman, then ran over and put his hand on the damn ball.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
If Harbaugh is already contemplating a move to the NFL, surely it is because he has a team and situation in mind. Presumably that's because they already don't have a head coach. We still have ours, obviously.
If I'm Harbaugh, I'd go to the Chargers. A good young QB, solid pieces on both sides of the ball, plenty of ties to the state of California (coaching two college and one pro team there). All they need is better leadership and decision-making and the Chargers have perennial playoff contender written all over them.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Chargers and Bears. That’s it.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
I'd throw Washington in there only because his brother would live right next to him and they'd be in opposite conferences, which was his reasoning for taking the San Fran job years ago. Problem with Washington is they need a total rebuild there, including a new QB, which they'll prolly draft this year. Maybe he takes that job and drafts McCarthy.
Re: *** Official College Football Playoffs Thread ***
Liberty vs. FSU would have been a great bowl game.
