IABL Predict The Score: Week 11, Tampa Bay at San Francisco, 19 November 2023
IABL Predict The Score: Week 11, Tampa Bay at San Francisco, 19 November 2023
And here we are again,
It's time for the Week 11 version of Predict The Score, the contest where head meets heart, and I predict a lot of reasonable yet gloomy predictions for this week. Last week's winner was the often-close-this-year TonyLip, whose Week 10 prediction of a 19-13 win over the Titans was closest to the actual score of 20-6. Well done, TonyLip.
The season standings are as follows:
Week 1: Jonny, Predicted Bucs 20 Vikings 17, 0 points off. Whoa!
Week 2: Doooshnzl, Predicted Bucs 28, Bears 17, 1 point off, winning the tiebreaker over Kaimaru and Bootz (so close!)
Week 3: acmillis, Predicted Bucs 14 Eagles 26, 4 points off.
Week 4: Buc2, Predicted Bucs 23, Saints 13, 7 points off.
Week 6: Four Verticals, Predicted Bucs 10, Lions 24, 8 points off.
Week 7: No winner, as no one predicted a Bucs loss.
Week 8: Nobody, Predicted Bucs 16, Bills 24, 2 points off.
Week 9: Bahamian:bucfan, Predicted Bucs 20, Bills 25, 31 points off.
Week 10: TonyLip, Predicted Bucs 19, Titans 13, 11 points off.
Tiebreakers (Edited again)
Interceptions. First the Niners', Second ours, and if no one throws any, third closest to the Bucs score.
----
I'll begin.
We should not win this game. While the Niners are 1-3 the past four weeks and so are we, they're better overall (6-3), they're at home, they dominated their last foe (now 6-3 as well) with great malice, they're being chased by the Seahawks so every game counts, and they're on national TV, again, as our matchup is the sole late game on FOX (4:05 p.m., so I have no excuse for not watching, heh). We are not hot, we're not that good, and the only thing we're chasing are a couple of division rivals relaxing at home looking forward to watching us get creamed, and who's kidding who, that's what the TV schedulers want them to see. The ONLY thing going for us is that the Niners know they're playing on prime time against the Seahawks four days later on Thanksgiving night, so there is a slight but real possibility that we can trap them.
My head says we should not win but dammit I won't predict a loss ever, because if this team has any hope at all at pulling a 2020 and acting like winners who even deserve a spot in the playoffs, they need to trap a couple of overconfident foes in the next few weeks including the mighty San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Of course I'll lose the contest because I committed to Bucball from the beginning of the season but it's gonna take that level of success by the defense to give us that puncher's chance and I don't think our offense is going to shine next Sunday.
With all that, here's my prediction:
Tampa Bay 13
San Francisco 10
We intercept 3 passes, we throw 1 interception.
Your turn.

Should I change this tiebreaker? Too complicated or stupid?
Re: IABL Predict The Score: Week 11, Tampa Bay at San Francisco, 19 November 2023
Okay.
Let's make it easier.
Turnovers. First the ones we got, then the ones they got.
The only way we're going to hold them under 21 points is our D getting turnovers, so that's the reason I'm going high on this in my prediction.
Third tiebreaker if absolutely necessary is closest to the Bucs score.

Agreed. I'd pick one of the stats but not a collection of them all.

Just interceptions or lost fumbles? Which one?
Re: IABL Predict The Score: Week 11, Tampa Bay at San Francisco, 19 November 2023
I'd go INTs. Purdy & Baker have the same number this season, 5 each. Let's see who takes the lead in that category.

Sounds good, we'll do that.
INTs by the good guys first, INTs given up second, closest to Bucs score if somehow no one throws any.

Yup, a shutout for the bad guys. They throw no interceptions, we throw 3.
Tuesday edit - Trask comes in and throws one of the INTs because it is that bad of a beating. With that 1 INT, the Trask haters say, "see, he is terrible"

Zero interceptions. We'll drop a sure pick-6 on a drive where they ultimately score to ice the game, but on the stat sheet: zero.

Close match this week. Congrats to Kress, whose prediction of 16-27 was closest to the actual score of 14-27, edging out Buc2's 3-points-off 16-26. Well done, Kress!
