Another major move in Las Vegas: The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to start rookie QB Aidan O'Connell this week and going forward, with Jimmy Garoppolo going to the bench. The promising O’Connell now gets his shot.

@Bootz, your boys in SF have a very fortuitous bye week this week. After 3 losses in a row, they need to get their heads back on straight, come back after the bye, and put a strangle-hold on that division to close out these last 2 months. For a weird stat, they scored 30 points in each of their 1st 3 wins and scored 17 points in each of those 3 losses.

No kidding. Health is a major part of it. Trent Williams was probably the biggest loss of them all. His loss has impacted everything they do on offense. Deebo & CMC also need to get healthy. Purdy needs to play better. Defenses have kinda figured him out. The media want to criticize their defense for not being perfect. I'll tell you, you aren't winning many games with an offense scoring 17 points.

Bosa hasn't looked like the same player this year so far, holdout may have hurt his play on the field more than he expected.

I think Nick is playing well. The rest of the line has been non-existent honestly. 2nd best player this year has been Clelin Ferrell, who was a bust with the Raiders. Armstead, Kinlaw, they've been pretty bad. That's why Randy Gregory & Chase Young were acquired.

Honestly, I think they'll bounce back just fine. However, they do have a tough road trip right after their bye, though. East coast trip to a play a pretty good Jags team isn't going to be easy. Especially if they're not healthy.

If Purdy is put in the position to have to do more, this team won't win. They do not win off the back of what their QB does. Never have and probably never will under Kyle. That schedule gets rough. Jags as you mentioned but also Eagles, Seahawks twice, Ravens, we might give them some fits as well.

@acmillis this says a lot. It's great to be a front runner but man that's been a guaranteed L if he isn't leading in the 4th.

Yeah that’s not great. Makes wonder what the likes of Reid, Bellichek, and other historically great coaches records are in the same scenarios. If it’s similar, then the stat is pretty useless IMO.

You need a good/great QB to mount multiple possession comebacks in the 4th quarterback. Shanahan prefers to work with guys who are dialed into (see: dependent on) his scheme.

Well as far as Reid and Belichick go, we know of a few times they've trailed by 3+ in the 4th and come back to win. Both of Reid's SB wins the Chiefs were down by at least 6 in the 4th. 2 of the Pats recent 3 SB wins they were down by 10, including the 28-3 game. Even those 2 wins a piece is more than Kyle has done in 32 chances. His 0-37 streak is only topped by the Panthers franchise.

Given the talent that's been on the 49ers that stat almost sounds made up.

Yup. I’d say that Shanahan stat points to this as emphatically as a stat can.

Quarters 1-3 and the coaching staff will share a significant proportion of the signal of results both at the scale of game and an entire season.

4th quarter? That signal (at both scales) dynamically and forcefully tilts to the QB. And it just so happens that in a league filled with one-score games, Q4 is by far the most important.

Main reason why I never bought into the idea that they were courting Brady. He wants to find his Kirk Cousins in the worst way.

That reads like a list of randomly generated QBs in someone's Madden 2009 franchise save.

Wow, that's......A list. Completely agree with @BucsNBills. And then you have multiple games with great QB matchups.

Tua Tagovailoa vs Patrick Mahomes
Josh Allen vs Joe Burrow
Geno Smith vs Lamar Jackson
Jalen Hurts vs Dak Prescott

Such a weird week.

Give it up for Geno rising from the dead and then proving it wasn't a fluke.

Told ya he was better than Josh Freeman ;)

Mike Tomlin’s resume with the Steelers is really incredible. Regardless of the roster, he fields a hyper-competitive football team.

It won’t happen, but if the Steelers are ever dumb enough to let him go, we need to bring him “home” at warp speed.
