Is Baker truly a better option than Trask?
Re: Is Baker truly a better option than Trask?
Baker has played pretty well this season, but he's a backup QB and nothing more. I hope everyone agrees by this point that Trask deserves to start over Baker so that we have clarity going into draft that Trask is no better than backup himself.
Please make a case for why Baker should continue to start. Who is it to the benefit of besides Baker himself?

It’s a lost season already. And if God himself comes down and eeks the Buccaneers into the playoffs, they’re going to get blown out in the first round. But that’s not gonna happen.Jonny wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:32 pm Baker has played pretty well this season, but he's a backup QB and nothing more. The book on Kyle Trask needs to be opened or closed for good. Maybe it is closed behind closed doors and we don’t know it. maybe the team knows already. But I have this weird feeling that whatever happens this off-season, it’s gonna be couched with, “XYZ they can compete with Kyle in training camp! Again!”
Just put him in there.

I am afraid the Glazers run Bucs the same way Bowles coaches Bucs. Passively and timidly. The time is here and now for them to make a change at HC. It actually helped the Panthers last season and almost helped them win the division.Snake wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:36 pmIt’s a lost season already. Everything I’ve seen from the Glazer kids is disheartening. Typical trust fund assholes. Didn’t have to make anything themselves. Inherited everything from daddy. It doesn’t surprise me that they don’t know what they’re doing.Jonny wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:41 pmI am afraid the Glazers run Bucs the same way Bowles coaches Bucs. Passively and timidly. Baker Mayfield would be perfect for vacuum cleaner commercials.
Re: Is Baker truly a better option than Trask?
Almost. Who actually won it?
Re: Is Baker truly a better option than Trask?
Bowles to Trask: I want you to do the things that Mayfield can't. Here is your audition.
Re: Is Baker truly a better option than Trask?
Trask: "So...not be mediocre?"
Bowles: "Exactly. Either be great or suck, either way. But you got to promise me Kyle, you'll be the best at being the best, or be the best at sucking, quick, fast, and in a hurry!"
I'd be absolutely, 100% on board with that!

Lol. Dude. This team won the Super Bowl just 3 years ago.

Hey, they still had to sign off on him. The Gronk trade. Antonio Brown. Leonard Fournette. Say what you want about the Glazers, but they did everything they could to keep that window open.Snake wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 11:31 amJust hope for football Jesus to get resurrected again and choose Tampa, again.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 9:44 am

Have you seen the Bye Bye Barry documentary? Wayne Fontes telling Barry they could have had Joe Montana or Warren Moon, but management said they were "too old." That could have easily been us.
Re: Is Baker truly a better option than Trask?
I don't think we'll ever know if Baker is a better option, because Trask is never going to get his shot. Not this year, not next. Never.

That's life in NFL. Situations change. Who knows how many careers never got to happen because of shifting landscapes.

Keep dreaming (unfortunately). If we lose to CAR and Baker is a major factor in that loss, I could THEN see Trask MAYBE getting the ball after that (HOPEFULLY).Grahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 9:43 amI'd be surprised if Trask doesn't start this week actually.

MRI revealed nothing structural on the ankle, but it's a perfect excuse to put Trask in with Mayfield likely on the injury report all week.acmillis wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 10:09 amKeep dreaming (unfortunately). Let him get full reps in practice all week and finally give the kid a go.acmillis wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 10:23 amChristmas comes early if Trask gets the start.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 10:19 am

Re: Is Baker truly a better option than Trask?
Baker isn't sitting. He played the rest of the game on that same ankle. No way he sits with full weeks practice. He's too tough for that.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 10:19 amMRI revealed nothing structural on the ankle, but it's a perfect excuse to put Trask in with Mayfield likely on the injury report all week.

"Speculation" that can be proven or disproven in short order. Unlike speculating what someone meant or didn't mean in regards to what player they wanted.
Either Baker plays or he's an injury scratch.

You usually have somewhat decent comebacks. This isn't one of them.

I don't know. I thought it was pretty funny, myself.

Trask is going to be the immobile target that Brady was.
Defenses will be coming with their ears pinned back with no escape.

I saw that yesterday. Meant to post it here, got busy and forgot. Yeah...that's pretty damning. I'm sure there are others on the team that feel like does. Mike Evans? Windfield?TonyLip wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 3:49 pm https://thepewterplank.com/posts/baker- ... loss-colts
Just saw this , hope it’s not a repeat.
Edit to add: Mayfield is very likely playing for his career here. So I can get his frustration of some of these guys are just collecting a check.
