Next win?
Re: Next win?
The Bucs are who they are. I think the 3-1 start gave people a lot of false hope. But this isn't a good team. It was never gonna be a good team this year. Not with everything we were up against. Aging roster, nearly a 3rd of it allocated for players who won't play a single down for this team, 1st time OC calling plays for the 1st time as well since he coached high school 14 years ago. The Bucs are playing no worse than I expected this year all things considering.
Most hated man in America.
Re: Next win?
I wish I could argue with you, but our record is our record and I agree. I think there's an opportunity for Bowles to keep his job moving forward, but if we continue on our current trajectory of offensive ineptitude I could see him getting the boot. Canales for sure. Maybe Licht as well.Bootz wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 8:37 pm The Bucs are who they are. I think the 3-1 start gave people a lot of false hope. But this isn't a good team. As far as our next win, I think the Bills are going to slap us in Buffalo on Thursday. I think the Texans are trending in the right direction while we are the inverse, so it wouldn't surprise me if we are underdogs in Houston in two weeks. I like our chances vs the Titans in three weeks at home, they are having a rough year thus far.
We will see how the rest of the year trends. And it's not like we can blame injury or inexperience. We have little of the former and plenty of the latter; we just can't put points on the board.
Re: Next win?
Canales is not helped by the fact that the HC can't call a decent defense. I bet in practice his offense tears it up. Need to go against a better D in practice to have a clue how to face one in a real game.Bootz wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 8:37 pm The Bucs are who they are. We’re giving up 17.3 PPG… that’s reeeaasllllyyyy good13F11B wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 8:54 pmCanales is not helped by the fact that the HC can't call a decent defense. Re: Next win?
If you base it on points only... sure. That is why the defense held the Falcons down at the end of the game and did not allow them to score a game-winning field goal.
sourceThe current average across the NFL is 39% third down success rate. That’s 39% percent of the time a team will successfully convert on third down. Right now the Buccaneers defense is allowing a conversion rate of 49.6%. A full 10.6% above the average.
Re: Next win?
This week the Falcons converted on 53% of their 3rd downs.13F11B wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 9:52 pmIf you base it on points only... sure. That is why the defense held the Falcons down at the end of the game and did not allow them to score a game-winning field goal.

I will rest on my claim that this defense is bad.

Re: Next win?
Saying the defense is bad is stretching it, IMO. There is no denying there are not getting it done on 3rd down though.
I also agree they aren’t getting enough blame for letting the Falcons win the game with 45 seconds left when they got the ball. Especially with a team like Atlanta with a strength of running the ball.

Re: Next win?
If Atlanta QB Ridder wasn't doing his best Kirk Cousins impressions of fumbling the ball away, the game wouldn't have been close.

Below average? Would that be better?Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 9:58 pm Saying the defense is bad is stretching it, IMO. There is no denying there are not getting it done on 3rd down though.
The Buccaneers rank 14th for drives that end in a score.
THeir blitz percentage is 40.4% (3rd most in the league), yet they rank 21st in hurry percentage at 6.6%, 23rd in QB knocked down, 22nd in pressure percentage (hurry + knock down).
Not good, that is for sure.
Re: Next win?
I think the Bills missed their window.
Bucs could find themselves with a W if Allen fucks up a few times.

Re: Next win?
That’s like saying our 2021 offense sucked because we had a bottom five rushing attack….when we were scoring 30/game.13F11B wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 9:52 pmIf you base it on points only... sure. The goal isn’t to be good on third down, have good pressure rates, etc. the goal is to not allow points.
Re: Next win?
I heard that stopping teams on 3rd down is KEY to not allowing points. I could be wrong though.
You may have missed that they rank 14th for drives that end in a score. Not good. Mediocre.
Re: Next win?
We were saved by Ridder's fumbles. Fumbles are fluky and especially the TD run that turned into a touchback or that unforced fumble at 1 yd line were perfect examples of fluky. Great on defense to capitalize on their mistakes. But a good defense also starts with being suffocating. Bucs have hardly been that. Ridder passed effortlessly throughout the game yesterday. So did Goff.
Yes Bucs are meeting the goal of not allowing points. But it is obvious to me that very soon the day will come when teams start putting up points in bunches. Offenses in general are struggling across the board in NFL. I will contend that our defense is a fraud that will be exposed soon.

Re: Next win?
Atlanta was very beatable. VERY, VERY beatable and Bowles Buccaneers fumbled that away.

Yes, I agree. There is also a chance a blind squirrel finds a nut.
Re: Next win?
Bills.
Why the hell not, they're not all that anymore. And if there was ever a time for a team to overlook us on a short week, this is it. We might get lucky, it happens sometimes, and get a turnover or two we didn't really deserve, this time for points.

Re: Next win?
If we get smashed by the Bills I'm going to start caring less and less about that next win. I was planning to be tracking the draft pick most of the season anyway, I'm still fine with that scenario.
Re: Next win?
You know what's going to happen this week, don't you?
We're going to EXPLODE for 31 points. Balanced attack, gaining chunk yards at will, just a thing of beauty. Baker will be baking, Evans and Godwin will each have over 100 with a td, while White has 120 on the ground plus two tuddies of his own. Pure awesomeness.
Oh, and the Bills will score 32.

Re: Next win?
Yeah, Bowles said this week (and only this week) no personnel changes. The only thing he did say was that he was no longer demanding we run the ball. So there is hope we only lose by one. Good luckKress wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2023 11:14 am You know what's going to happen this week, don't you?

Re: Next win?
We are at the 'thank the lord for Baker Mayfield' portion of the season.
Re: Next win?
Once again, thank the lord..
Trask sucks. I don't know why Buc2 is rooting for him.

Re: Next win?
At this rate, or next win might not be until next April if we can manage to draft Caleb.
Re: Next win?
The next win?????
It'll be a win if the season ends and we have the 3 wins on our record that we had no business getting..
