This loss by OSU illustrates how good Saban is. And how ruthless Saban is. OSU DC Coombs lost the team the game. Zero adjustments. He’s never called defenses in his career. He was promoted out of his competence because he’s an elite recruiter, personality, and he’s paid his dues. He’s also the same guy who Urban Meyer took ST coaching away from mid-season because they suck.

Saban would’ve fired him the second he felt the defense wouldn’t be elite. Ryan Day is a good guy. The kind of guy who gives another lifelong CFB professional and friend the benefit of the doubt. Then let him coach himself out of DC position. Not Saban. Never would’ve happened to begin with. Saban also doesn’t let his recruiters suck recruits’ ass. the brand speaks for itself. Sometimes I think OSU puts the brand before the football. There’s a reason guys leave Alabama physically damaged more than other schools. Saban practices hard. It’s iron sharpness iron. He puts on his straw hat and doesn’t care about anything else. Where’s that grit at OSU?

OSU is probably the best team in CFB at recruiting elite speed. Their entire team feels like a sports car. Long and fast. Sometimes you need a semi, not a Ferrari. Bad coaching only makes this more obvious. I think OSU rotated in seven 5* DLs into the game at some point. They couldn’t get any push for 3/4 of the game. Pathetic.

Further exacerbating the issue is OSU putting guys into the NFL every year in mass numbers and often as redshirt sophomores. They played multiple true freshman today and started a 19 y/o QB. At what point is it better to have a 22-23 y/o coached up high 3* to mid 4* instead of a five * true freshman who doesn’t know what he’s doing? OSU is asking that right now.

Either way. Doesn’t look like a playoff team. Stroud poured on the stats but Ewers is probably better sooner than later.
