So?
Five starters out on defense? Or we get to hear they are playing damaged.

This is a big sign that our starting corners might not be coming back soon

Yeah, both Dean and Davis are probably sidelined for a while. It’s reminding me of when we desperately signed the ghost of Richard Sherman to deal with all the injuries.

You can't have starting corners that know every word of the United States Disability Act making big money.

Re: Week 4 Discussion
Whelp! I was optimistic in our matchup vs NOLA and maybe not so much anymore with all the injuries on defense
Re: Week 4 Discussion
And all on defense too. Hopefully CD3 isn't out too long. Dean seems like he's always injured. Same with Vita. DW at least played and was productive. Who knows when Kancey will return. Just bad all around. These Are The Days wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 12:02 pm Whelp! I was optimistic in our matchup vs NOLA and maybe not so much anymore with all the injuries on defense

Re: Week 4 Discussion
Yea 3 corners on the injury report. 2 didn't practice at all. Surely its premature to say they might not be able to play...I'm guessing working out 2 corners is premature as well

Maybe our corners should stop playing so much special teams...
Re: Week 4 Discussion
Who do you suppose they get replaced by? Our WRs? QBs?BucsNBills wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 5:05 pm Maybe our corners should stop playing so much special teams...

It's more about someone getting IR-ed.
Re: Week 4 Discussion
I guess you know nothing at all. We literally worked out 2 corners today, do you deny that? 3 corners are on the injury report, do you deny that? 2 of them didn't practice, do you deny that? Bowles statement was the definition of uncertainty. He doesn't even know if they'll be healthy so that's why it's wait and see. What exactly are you claiming Bowles said to the contrary?

Re: Week 4 Discussion
No good to us if they can't hit the field. IR Davis and Dean, call up Keenan Isaac and sign William Jackson.
Or listen to them say I'll try to be ready in 2 or 3 weeks.
Worse yet, play all season not 100%.

Re: Week 4 Discussion
I've seen the Saints play twice this year. I've been unimpressed both times. I think they're beatable.
But we're beat up on defense top to bottom. Arguably our best players at each position.
We know Jameis will be dialed in, and say what you will about him. He has the ability to light us up.
Our offense on the other hand seems to be good for about 2 touchdowns a game. That's not going to cut it this week. They're healthy, they need to step up and light it up. Our best defense will be our offense. If we can't sustain drives we lose. If we can, victory is ours.

Backup corners versus Chris Olave and Michael Thomas makes me nervous. And say what you will about Jameis, but he ain't afraid to throw it up for his guys.
Every WR/CB matchup is a mismatch if Davis and Dean are out. Here's hoping for healthy, cuz if they ain't it could be a long day.

Patrick O'Connor of course - our ace special teams DE.
Re: Week 4 Discussion
@Cheb Can you say there are teams that build their o-lines around run blocking being the key strength and then coaching the pass blocking on an upward trend?
Re: Week 4 Discussion
Besides, it would be a very Buc-like thing to do to lose to an ex-Buc QB.Cheb wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 3:50 am Backup corners versus Chris Olave and Michael Thomas makes me nervous. And say what you will about Jameis, but he ain't afraid to throw it up for his guys.

Re: Week 4 Discussion
Kamara back and half the defense likely out to heal up for after the bye. I don't like our chances.
Re: Week 4 Discussion
O'Connor already plays ST. What @BucsNBills is saying we our CBs don't need to play ST. So who replaces them?

The Bucs had a player named as Player of the Month!
The bad news is, it's our punter.
Congrats, Jake Camarda!

Re: Week 4 Discussion
The continuing dedication to our running game doesn't bother me, it's the inefficacy of said run game that troubles me.
As an avid run game enthusiast myself, I know these things can take time, especially with a new scheme, new offensive line, and different timings of newly interfacing parts. Lord knows I've had seasons where my teams' running game was hot garbage before we worked out the bugs in the system, and sometimes even then it wasn't great.
I don't demand a dominant running game at this stage. I just want to see us iron out the wrinkles and have some smooth snaps. Efficient wins on the playside, not allowing penetration on the backside, maybe an explosive every now and again. I need to see SOME signs of life, and currently I don't see much. If we could have even a single concept that we can fall back on, something we can call into the huddle and the players can look each other in the eye and say with honesty that we know we can get a solid four yard gain doing this thing, then I would feel pretty good about that. Because when you find that thing, then you can add that to your Core and start to build other concepts and actions off of it, because you run it well and often and the defense has to respect it.
Currently, I am not seeing anything like that right now. And that worries me more than just a smidgeon.

A good running game starts and stops with the offensive line. It has been mostly stops for the Bucs offensive line. In fact, the run blocking of the offensive line has been downright offensive.
