Wasn't pretty offensively, but we played with a ton of guts
Most hated man in America.
Re: Week One Rapids Reactions
My Reaction:
Defense was stout even through they gave up a lot of yards. I mean A LOT of yards in the first half. But lots of turnovers and didn't break. They are the reason we won.
Offense was absolutely dog shit for the first two quarters. Then they got it done. Props to Mayfield.

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
Defense came to play. Mayfield looked...competent. And his gutsy nature pulled that win out for us with the run and that dart of a throw to Godwin.
I'm not sure what changed in the 2nd half offensively, but we looked like a totally different team.
Pretty pumped about this win.

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
Our defense is way legit - They came motivated and intent on doing their jobs. Their energy and focus changed everything.

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
I will give Canales some credit, he made halftime adjustments and called a good game even if he ran it up the middle on first down a little much for my liking.
This may have been the best game I’ve seen from Devin White too, he flew over the field and made the right plays instead of being a loose cannon looking for the splash play.
Also, credit to Baker. I wouldn’t say he was awesome, but he got it done when needed. He reminded me of Jeff Garcia being a gutsy runner not afraid of contact.

No more Gisele curse
Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
That NB rookie is legit.
Defense played fantastic.
Vikings are bad.
Offense is TBD. There’s was a ton of bad, and then suddenly a bunch of good.

Glad the offense figured it out before the defense ran out of gas...

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
Nice to have a kicker make a bomb from 50+
Baker has some guts.
Devin White shows up in a contract year.
Love the balls to throw it on 3rd and 10 to ice it.
Had more fun watching this game than any game last year.
We don’t suck.

Baker Fuckin Mayfield baby
Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
Nice to win and saw some good things on both sides of the ball. I still think we cap out at 7-9 wins, but hard to not have optimism after a week 1 win

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
Going for it on 4th and 1 inside your own 35. Kicking a 57 yarder to take the lead. Forcing 3 and outs on the Vikings last 2 possessions. Limiting the Vikings to only 1 possession in the 4th quarter. Reeling off 3 first downs to run out the clock.
That’s winning football and that, my friends, was entertainment at its best.

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
In no particular order:
- Baker didn't look perfect, especially in the first half, but he showed some fire which I appreciate. No turnovers and key conversions as a runner and passer.
- The offensive line did okay. Middling in the run game but did a decent job in pass pro.
Wirfs looked solid at LT, Mauch was whelming, Goedeke had a rocky start but improved as the game went on.
- Our runners didn't show great vision, particularly White who looked like a JAG in all phases.
- I appreciate the commitment to the run game even though it wasn't always fruitful. Gotta keep play calling balance and control TOP; I respect that.
- I mentioned it in the game thread but Ko Kieft was getting bodied in the run game. Cotton was meh.
- Evans and Godwin saved our bacon today and are the engines through which we need to run the offense.
- Palmer making plays as a rookie carries over from preseason. Good pick.
- Anthony Nelson might have had the best rep-to-production ratio amongst all the pass rushers.
- Kancey looked good on that pressure in the first series but it bums me out if we reinjured him because we got too excited to play with our new toy on Christmas morning. Hope he's okay and not out for long.
- White had his best game in a long time.
- LVD went back out in after his injury so hopefully he's good to go moving forward.
- Izien or whatever his name is seems to be a great find. That penalty on him was bullshit and he was making plays. Good job.
- Overall, I'm pleased with the philosophy of the Canales offense in the second half. Balance the run and pass, control the ball, speed up the game, and make your defense have an easier day.
- Todd Bowles was not holding a defensive call sheet in the first half, but by the second half he had one in his mitts, not sure if he did on the Vikings first drive. As I mentioned previous, Larry Foote was calling defensive plays, and it seems that Bowles took that back over in the second half at some point, and the differences were stark. The Vikings had 288 yards in the first half and only 81 yards in the second half. Good switch imo.
Great team win and I see some semblance of an identity moving forward. Play great defense, control the ball and don't turn it over, explosives to Mike and Chris on the outside, use the run to keep the safeties spun down so they can't double Evans and Godwin. Stuff to clean up for sure, but we're 1-0, and who can argue with that?
Go Bucs.

Lots of folks in here called it…gotta have the defense we saw today if there’s to be any hope of a postseason.

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions
I've never watched Baker Mayfield this closely for a whole game. His arm is lively and his release is effortlessly quick. Hopefully this win and a win against the Bears will make him more confident, but I really like the bootleg and play action heavy offense with Baker leading it. There is some upside to it that wasn't realized today. I wish we had a good O-line that would allow for a good run game. That unit is what is holding the whole team, not just the offense, but the whole team back.

Re: Week One Rapid Reactions see
Some of us didn't buy this garbage about the national media creating this narrative about being the worst team. We still have a top 10 D, 2 of the best WR and an offense that can move the ball.

Evans was quoted saying that he has Moxy. This team respects him.Jonny wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 4:48 pm I've never watched Baker Mayfield this closely for a whole game.
