Both of these guys are short armed and will get their asses kicked by NFL defensive lineman.real bucs fan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 12:44 am Mauch was an obvious target. Kinda surprised Licht already called him a guard, Mauch looked like he could hang at OT from what I saw. Licht said Goedeke could be the RT with Wirfs likely moving to LT now, I don’t mind moving Wirfs, might as well see what he can do, but Goedeke has even less length than Mauch.
Anyways, solid pick.

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
All our guys are pretty versatile. I'm sure we'll find an alignment that works best but it will be done by our coaches in TC, not by Licht on a podium after the draft.
Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
That's very true. Lots of folks were calling him a bust and a wasted pick in year one. Jury is still out on Goedeke.

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
Mauch's story...
I'm assuming that nickname is pronounced 'toode' as in attitude.EVERY SO OFTEN, North Dakota State offensive tackle Cody Mauch will hear from Kendrick Lenzen, his childhood friend and former grade school teammate, via FaceTime.
"He'll be like, 'Hey, give me a smile,'" Mauch said. "It's like he's admiring his work."
Lenzen is responsible for what might become the most recognizable gap-tooth grin in the NFL since Michael Strahan. Mauch hasn't had his two front teeth since colliding with Lenzen while chasing a loose ball in a middle school basketball game. After several dental stopgaps, Mauch decided that he wouldn't repair his teeth until he finished playing football.
He could be waiting a while to fix that smile.
.
.
.
"His nickname is 'Tud,'" said North Dakota State defensive lineman Jake Kava, Mauch's friend and housemate. "When you think of a guy with the nickname Tud, that's Cody. No front teeth, big smile, long, flowing red hair."

Mauch is currently the lowest graded run blocking guard in the NFL (80th of 80). Per PEE-EFF-EFF.

50th
72.4 overall this season across ~1000 snaps. 100% at RT. 28th of 84 qualified Ts.
43.7 overall last season across ~500 snaps. 90% at LG, 10% at RT (one game). His one game at RT was arguably his best game.
Safe to say he was playing out of position.

Couldn't have moved up just a smidgen more for Brian Branch gd it?

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
Goedeke has been great.
It has been pointed out in other threads that Licht is notorious for this. Drafting tackles with elite pass blocking traits and moving them inside. It has worked often, but it's such a huge learning curve.
My guess is Mauch's grades has improved as the season has gone on.

How has the LG graded out whether it be Stinnie or Feiler?
How has Hainsey graded out?
How has Hainsey graded out?
Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
I made a graph charting his performance by week. Orange is overall grade. If 50 is below average, 60 is average, and 70 is above average. He's yet to have a game in which is excelled in both aspects of blocking to the point of being "above average" overall that given week.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 12:16 pm Goedeke has been great.

He was literally a 3 out of 100 against the 49ers in the passing blocking phase.
On the plus side, he's played every game and 100% of all snaps this season...

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
As you can see though many more games with a quality pass blocking grade.
Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
Licht tries to stroke his own genius by looking for his next Ali Marpet. He thinks trading up for small school tackles and turning them into guards makes him look smart.

All 4 were OTs in college. All 4 played Guard for us. You need anything further, I can't help you with that, kiddo.

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
He's definitely bought into the schema of "OG is easier than OT, so decent OTs should make great OGs!"
Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
Another luke warm take by @Bootz. I have seen a great deal more transition from Tackle to interior line for college lineman. I found this article which confirms that trend.Bootz wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 1:51 pmhttps://www.buccaneers.com/news/buccane ... t-15225853

You might have a point if Licht was trying to convert college guards to tackles.

I didn't ask for a link to who he drafted. I could have done that myself. What I can't find is where he likes to stroke his own genius.Bootz wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 1:51 pmhttps://www.buccaneers.com/news/buccane ... t-15225853

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
Yep. Wasn't the case for Goedeke. Looking like the same for Mauch. I understand wanting versatility up front, but it's always been forced. The formula is the same for all 4.
ALL OT in college.
All from D-1A schools or lower.
ALL we traded up to draft
ALL we moved to guard
It's turned into a gimmick that he plays into than actually trying to get a quality football player that can contribute.

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
It's not terrible despite losing Marpet and Jensen recently, and it's improving.
Do you have a list of all of the busts he's drafted on the Oline? Is it way bigger than his hits? Especially recently.
Are you making the statement "Licht is bad at drafting Olineman"? If so, I suppose I will pointlessly go through the exercise of showing that is incorrect. But please definitively make that statement before I do.

Yea only 32nd blocking for the run game. Not terrible at all. At least the........Which team is worse than us at run blocking again?Backside wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 2:10 pmIt's not terrible despite losing Marpet and Jensen recently, and it's improving.

You dodged the entirety of the post there for a reason. You're saying being dead last in run blocking isn't bad?

Re: Welcome Cody Mauch
How it run blocking graded? By the result of the run? Do you grade lineman ONLY by run blocking? I'll take that. Especially when you have people trying to say the dead last ranked run blocking Oline isn't bad AND someone questioning who actually gets graded in run blocking.
