The renderings do look attractive for sure. I think all Rays fans in the area should be happy with this. If I still lived in Tampa, I'd definitely go to some of the games in this setting. Maybe even get one of the season ticket plans they offer. Weekdays would be tough, but I could definitely do something like their Saturday or Sunday plan. There's lots of plan options if you want to go the season ticket route. Or just go to a few games or your choice. Either way would work.

That was a whale of a speech by Mayor Welch. Drink it in man. This will remain one of the most significant things to ever happen to the Bay Area for all time.

Shit, The entire investment in the redevelopment of Tropicana Field will exceed $6 billion.

Anyway, I’ve been to Braves game and The Battery district. It’s the best experience I ever had in my lifetime. If you guys been there, you’ll understand what I mean. Hopefully the Rays follow the Braves model

I didn't get the best look at all the proposals but I hope that is what they're doing. Build ALL THE THINGS. Hotels, apartments, shopping complexes, restaurants, hell even throw in some top golf, a movie theater, a casino and a night club where you go dancing and you will have something for everyone to enjoy no matter who they are. Do that and they WILL come night after night after night for decades. I don't know if this is that kind of plan but the success of the Rays in St. Pete is going to depend on transforming that entire area from a retirement community next to some gorgeous beaches to a place you can't stay away from because you love being there so much.

Feel free to nominate me for IOTY (if we still do that around here) because I didn't read everything before I reacted and thought it was gonna be just a ballpark and a parking lot. I have a hard time imagining it would have fixed much beyond immediate issues like revenue and upkeep. Like that scared me to death. We can only eat at Fergs so many times

@Phantom is absolutely right about The Battery. I went a couple of years ago when I was in Atlanta for a Falcons game. It wasn't even baseball season, but the Battery was flooded with people and activities. Restaurants, bars, retail, bowling, hotels, apartments, office space. They had a Christmas event there and fireworks going off. Plus a view of the Braves beautiful stadium.

That's what's being built around the new Trop. That's how you sustain a franchise. Keep the area active. Businesses will move lease space in the area. Those employees get off of work and hey, why not go to the game afterwards? The company's they work for, they might be a sponsor for the Rays. More added revenue. Keep the area active. Keep the community involved. That's how you build a successful fanbase and franchise off the field.

St. Pete made that transition about a decade ago. It currently takes Tampa's lunch money then kicks its ass anyway, just for the fun of it.

Yea we're a long way from being the old town retirement community. Most of the old folks are either in Shore Acres, old North East or have moved to St Pete Beach. This is a much more lively city than it use to be.

Also here's an article detailing the Rays 30% increase in attendance this season, highest it's been in over 10 years.

Getting people to come to the Trop wasn't as big of a hurdle this year. It certainly won't be with a brand new stadium and multiple new sponsors, businesses, mixed use developments, hotels, apartments, jobs at the stadiums doorstep.

Most likely the Rays win the top wild card spot..

We need to win the AL East cause of home field advantage and 1st round bye

2.5 games behind the Orioles

I went back through Baltimore's history... The last time they recorded a .600+ season was in 1997 (98-64 .605). Since that season, 25 seasons have passed and they've only finished over .500 5 times. The Rays have posted 11 +.500 seasons over that same span with their best season being 2021 (100-62 .617), not counting the Covid-shortened season when they went 40-20 to finish at .667).

My point? I don't have one. It just sucks that the Orioles are having a Cinderella season when, otherwise, the Rays would be in the driver's seat to win the division, home-field advantage and a first-round bye.

And, yes, I'd like a little cheese with my whine.

Is it wrong that I was legitimately waiting for something like the Key and Peele "slap ass" skit to organically break out in the midst of that celebration?

The Rays should just save everyone some time any put the rest of the team on IR right now. Call up Durham, throw in a few Biscuits, and go with it.

Agreed. While the 1st round bye would be nice, this team is simply beat to hell right now with all of the injuries.
