It’s not like he played at Montana. If he was such an elite athlete, he should’ve dominated.

Well let me tell you the story of the time I talked shit about Cam Newton coming out of college and spent 10 years watching him prove that I'm an idiot.

Richardson is no Cam Newton

I just watched a video on ESPN by one of their talking heads, that he believes the Panters are targeting CJ Stroud.

So here's the scenario: The Panthers just on the hype train and pick Richardson. The Texans throw a curve ball by drafting Stroud. Bryce is there for the taking and AZ wants to sell the pick.

Would you be happy with us trading up to 3 for Young?

No but if Caleb Williams is in this draft, absolutely

If you had changed it it "NFC South fans" it would be true. Do you honestly think that Atlanta and New Orleans didn't feature that for awhile?

I personally think Stroud is best qb in draft. I am hoping they don’t take him. The way he carved up the Georgia defense..a defense that will be made up of a lot of NFL players…made a pure believer out of me.

Saying Stroud only has “one great performance” seems ignorant, at best. Yes, Georgia was his best performance given the context. But, it’s not like that came out of nowhere.

Yeah..."he only had one great game" is a nonsense take on Stroud.

Here are the legit knocks on each of the Top 5 QBs IMHO:

Bryce Young - Size, obviously. He's not just short, he's small. You'll be holding your breath every time he takes a solid hit.
CJ Stroud - He can be overly robotic at times, a la Jared Goff. He may require a QB Coach who can "joystick" his play, again, like Goff. Ohio State QBs have simply not been the same guys when they left Columbus.
Anthony Richardson - Throwing the football.
Will Levis - Decision Making.
Hendon Hooker - The system, the lack of tight-window throws or progressive reads, the age.
"So let's get to the point
Let's roll another joint
And let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I got to go..."

I don't remember Cam with much awe. When the team was rolling he was MVP, but that was one year. Mostly I remember a towel over his head during any adversity. Honestly, he was at the peak of his powers in Auburn. That year is top 3.

Newton is a guy who everyone has strong feelings on, and the people who love him overrate the crap out of him, but the people who hate him underrate him as well. His rookie year is one of the greatest ever. His MVP season might be the greatest season ever in terms of passing production and running production combined.

Otherwise...he was one of the most physical QBs in NFL history. His running style, and the hits he took. Sure, there was the pouting, and the goofy outfits, but he was a warrior. He did a pretty good job of mitigating his limitations as a passer until his athleticism left him. He absolutely elevated his team on many Sundays with his unique set of skills (credit: Liam Neeson.)

I don't think history will really do much for him, especially because his style of play will more and more become the norm (we're already seeing it), and there will simply be better versions, especially as a passer.

Anthony Richardson is not that evolution, however. He reminds me more of a Beta version to Cam's more polished product. Newton wasn't quite as athletic as Richardson, but he was a better passer when he came into the league. He accomplished a hell of a lot more at Auburn than Richardson did at Florida. He was also more instinctive as a runner, even if he wasn't quite as fast.

My knock on one SEC quarterback was that he was 0-4 against Florida and had choppy feet in the pocket.

Peyton Manning

CJ Stroud is not the great Peyton Manning

CJ had 3 all stars wide receivers

Peyton had none

Stroud doesn’t have to be an Inner Circle Hall of Famer or a Heisman winner to be a successful pick.

This. Everybody already knew it was gonna be Young. Everybody also knew there would be the typical draft season rumors and speculation. Remember when guys like Blaine Gabbert, De'Quan Bowers and Sam Darnold were seen a #1 overall picks? Yea.

I will just never buy that an organization would make a major trade up to #1 without knowing DAMN sure who they were going to draft. That seems laughably incompetent. What if it turns out they don't love anyone?

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Young.

This is one of the more smokescreen’y drafts in recent memory. Or I’m just paying more attention.

Like, last year was weird because Hutchinson was the presumptive #1 all through the deal and then he wasn't, but I think it's different with defensive players than it is with quarterbacks.

Honest question - this late in the process, how many times has the presumptive #1 QB not been the pick? You could maybe say Sam Darnold, but he was at most a sight favorite at points over Mayfield, and by a couple weeks away we pretty much knew it was Mayfield. I went back 33 years and I can't find one.

I'm having a mock "competition" with my kid and at no point have I really considered moving Young off of that top spot. And I don't plan on moving Stroud out of #2 unless I hear something concrete.

Some say it still is Stroud, but they know the Texans love Young so are trying to bait a one spot trade down. I mean why else play smoke and mirrors with the first pick at all?

Partially I think to shake the bushes and see if anything falls out. Partially to play mind games with opponents and rivals. But also, I think most of these guys enjoy sowing a little chaos.

If I had the #1 pick, I'd tell my guy and get him the playbook and the film ASAP. Then I'd spend the next few weeks leaking rumors, making up rumors, and generally shaking the ant colony.

The PR the Panthers have done with their Young-love would be legendary if he’s not the pick.

I think they are setting themselves up to trade down to #7 with the Raiders. Carolina gets #7 and a buttload of other picks.. Nice setup for them.

Vegas gets a QB.

Carolina just traded two 1st's, two 2nd's and a player for that first pick.
