Hypothetical: If We Were In Great Cap Shape...

Post by MJW »

How would you spend it, vis-a-vis our pending free agents, our extensions, and external free agents? For obvious reasons we've barely talked about this FA class.

And let's head on down the road

-Aaron Rodgers or Lamar Jackson would be the play. We ain't going anywhere without a QB and Kyle Trask ain't it.

-Tristian Wirfs would be locked up long term. He's earned it. 3 years, 2 All-Pros & Pro-Bowls.

-Devin White would be locked up (He actually probably will be). Sorry, he's earned it. Is he perfect? No. But he also gets more blame than he deserves for plays that aren't his responsibility. He's an easy target but I think OBP loves him.

-Tag Jamel Dean, shop him and trade him if you can to the highest bidder. I think he’s a bit overhyped and we should capitalize on it by getting value for him.

Seattle has never had a great OL or great OL talent. Well not true, the Hutchinson years were pretty good. But lately.

Yet they can run well and their offense have been explosive. This "system", does seem to do a good job delivering more with less. If a reshuffled line can be even just a bit better, and we still have our weapons like Evans and Godwin... then yes, you gotta try to reBrady things up with a guy like Lamar or Rodgers. Similar to say the jets right now. Or heck, us of 3 years ago.

Ummmm Walter Jones anybody?? He's only one of the greatest Olinemen of all time. Held down Seattle's LT spot for 13 years and was 1st ballot, something even Hutchinson didn't do.

I’d be aggressive going after Lamar Jackson. If we can’t swing a trade for him, throw $$$ at Jimmy G.

Aaron Rodgers would be a no since GB won’t trade him to NFC team.

Focus on re-signing our top guys like Dean, David, and Gabbert
(Joking on that last one).

Spend on a top TE available like Dalton Schultz or Hayden Hurst.

Spend the rest on upgrading our OL.

But….we don’t have that luxury.

If we weren't cash strapped:

* Lock up Wirfs and Winfield
* Re-sign LVD
* Sign Orlando Brown Jr.

From there, I prioritize Dean and D. White's replacements in this year's draft.

My focus would be building the team for a future QB on their rookie deal.

Devin White has earned league minimum. He isn't good.

Nothing personal, but this is the antithesis of what I think is a good idea.
Throw money at an oft injured, mediocre qb? No thanks.
Pay a middling TE huge $? No thanks!

Somewhat agree, but again, I am talking about a perfect world where we don’t have to worry about cap situation and we can go after the best that’s out there.

Jimmy G may be injury prone, but given the options out there this offseason, I’d still take him over any of the others.

I didn't exaggerate anything. Devin White is not a good football player. He is fast, but he misses tackles, gets blocked out of most plays and is terrible at coverage.

Yet somehow racked up more tackles than every other player on this defense and finished 2nd in sacks. Tells me everyone else is a bum too, right?

Anyone who thinks it’s time to reload can only be talking about a “bad” reload as in a year or 2 or suffering for high draft picks.

It's all in the hands of the free agents, even the small 1 mil contracts.
