D Smith's time here is coming to a close for many reasons.

Buc2 wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 12:05 pm I'd like to say, trust in Licht, as some folks here like to say. But that trust got us 2022.
....

It also got us 2020.

Which far outweighs the pain of our miserable division winning season. In fact, we play this hypothetical game every few offseasons and the consensus seems to be a willingness to swallow quite a lot of misery but get a ring than be the Bills or McNabb Eagles. Also, if anyone is going to retool/rebuild us back to championship form it is probably the guy that literally just did it. And the 2022 roster is far better than the 2014 one he took over. May not take 6 years again, even so, that's nothing. The dude's been a FO executive on four different Super Bowl teams. Like, who the heck else could you possibly prefer to turn?
Yes. That goes without saying. But one still needs to be careful when placing trust and not just blindly trust. Trust, while it can and was earned with 2020 results still has to be weighed carefully because it can just as easily be lost. We will see how Licht handles the upcoming challenges we've seen talked about in these threads. I think he will do okay but, obviously, it remains to be seen. I'm not just going to blindly trust he will get the job done.

You're right. So he's had 2 good years out of 8. That being the case, I guess it's safe to say he hasn't earned any trust. But, I will still thank him for those 2 good years, of course.

Do you think those "two good years" just happened in their own vacuums? You don't think the work from the five years had anything to do with it?

So 2018, when he signed Ryan Jensen and drafted Vea, Davis, Cappa, Whitehead, and Stewart, was a bad Licht year? Because we went 5-11.
2019, when he discovered Shaq Barrett and drafted White, SBM, Dean, Edwards and Nelson... "bad year".... because we went 7-9.

I understand why Americans invaded Iraq after 9/11 now...

I mean Doctor is clearly right on this one. He built that 2020 Super Bowl team and it wasn’t done in one season.

I agree. Licht has been a very good GM.

An aside, I've seen a lot of people compare their GM to Veach on the Chiefs recently and it's not fair. Veach is obviously great and probably the current best, but a lot of that is luck. 20 of his last 22 picks are on the active roster and have started a game and 10 of them are full time starters.

Their draft last year was historically great and every pick contributed to their SB win. The Chiefs were "rebuilding", but not in the sense we are speaking to. It does show that 1 incredible draft can change a lot, but it obviously helps with you have Mahomes, Reid, Kelce, and Chris Jones.

I just hope that the Bucs can draft as well as the Chiefs did last year. That will go a long way for the Bucs to return to the playoffs.

I hate to ruin things for you, but there's 0% chance we do considering they had 2 1st and 2 2nds...As far as hitting, it was an all-time great draft as far as contributors...no one should expect that. The fact the Chiefs have basically done it 2 years in a row is crazy.

Yes. And I never said Doc was wrong. My main point was that trust has to be earned and it’s a continuous process. What was once earned can be unearned. Especially in the NFL. It doesn’t take long for coaches and front office people to fall out of favor.

Of course, it’s too soon to say Licht has fallen out of favor with the Glazers. He can probably even have another losing season this year. Maybe even in 2024 provided it looks like the team is trending the right direction.

Listening to old Seahawk nation vids, I'm warming up to Canales' coaching and development chops a bit more. He took a complete trash WR room and made it one of the most respectable in the league, starting by getting far more out of undrafted Doug Baldwin than anyone ever expected. There is also a very notable difference in Wilson's comp %, INT %, and Rating before and after Canales. Especially from a consistency standpoint. And of course, we have Geno.

People who are expecting a Trask tank could be in for a surprise.

Based on the highlights from the Munich game, I'm going to speculate (until we know) that he's bringing the four verticals to the offense. Seahawks ran it most of the time against us.

Thad Lewis Promoted To Bucs QBs Coach
https://www.pewterreport.com/thad-lewis-bucs-qbs-coach/

Absolute smash move. We getting young on the field and on the sidelines. I also really like that Canales, Bowles, and Arians all see him the same way. Going to QB from WRs just like our new OC did.

Did Canales really just poach the best RB coach in the league because the Cowboys slept on renewing him?

2020-2022 Cowboys (Zeke & Pollard)
2016-2019 - Rams (Prime Todd Gurley)
2013-2014 - Bears (prime Matt Forte)
2007-2012 Cowboys (Marion Barber, Felix Jones, DeMarco Murray)
1998-2006 Raiders (Charlie Garner, Tyrone Wheatley, Kaufman)

That's an impressive group of backs for sure. This seems like a great stroke of luck.

Good hire, full marks.

I hope this had nothing to do with luck and a lot to do with strategic planning, trickery and thieving 8-)

I'd liken that to Arians being named a "QB Guru" because of his work with 5 #1 overall picks at QB.

Or Todd Monken being labeled a competent OC because he got to coach at Georgia for 2 years

At minimum Canales is bringing energy and that’s a positive

So to be clear, one idiot tweets out that Trask must be a "slow learner" since he sat behind other QBs before getting his opportunity and that has just overruled every scouting report that praises his high football IQ.

Sometimes kids get drafted and they have trouble learning the playbook.
I'm actually in the start Trask corner. I would like to see what hes got, he did pretty damn good in college and his half of nfl experience was something to build on.
