It’s pretty rare that interim coaches keep the gig long term. Any chance Wilks had was gone when he let our lethargic offense score 20 points in the 4th quarter to close out the division.

Great hire by Carolina. Was hoping they didn’t get him because I wanted him when we start our HC search in 2024.

My thoughts, exactly.

Or, they hire a firm to do the search. The firm typically selects somebody from the retread pool or the hot name of the week.

It's a boys club through and through. The Panthers 1st ever QB coming back to coach them after getting fired less than halfway through the season.

Honestly does anyone really get worried/excited about this hire? It gives me the same vibes as when Washington hired Ron Rivera. Without a #1 overall pick at QB, this guy will be pretty average. Maybe that's what the Panthers want right now. Someone who can get them from very poor to mediocre.

That’s usually the case. And it’s why I am hyper skeptical of anyone who thinks the majority of NFL organizations are actually well run or full of geniuses at the executive level. Maybe if they plucked some brilliant offensive mind from Kent state or something I would be more impressed.

Given the crazy number of firings any given year, it’s pretty clear that it’s the blind leading the blind

1 retread that won't be getting another job. Something tells me this is Dallas' HC in 2024.

Which would possibly mean they expect to lose Kellen Moore.

Yeah, he would have had a hell of a case if they'd won that game. But you said it: interims are there to get the team to the offseason and then get fired. None of them should be indignant about it. Wilks should be happy he probably put himself in some conversations in 2024 he absolutely would not have been otherwise.

The NFL is so bizarre.

Are teams so fearful of trying out some new blood that they’re going after members of the Broncos offensive staff? Those guys did an awful job this last season, shouldn’t their performance deter teams?

I just don’t get it

I would absolutely love to bring in Steve Wilks to be our defensive passing game coordinator. I think we could use the help in more ways than one.

Wilks got a pretty shitty deal honestly. He won more games in a partial season than Matt Rhule did in each of his 2 full seasons as HC. Then he gets replaced by a guy who was fired mid-season for having at the time the worst offense in football, despite being known for his offensive expertise.

Reich is a good HC. Up until this past year, he had three winning seasons out of four. He had bad qb options in Indy after Rivers left. But he reminds me a lot of Doug Pederson. When “other” entities stepped in and made him do something he didn’t want to do, things went south. But you look at the beginning of his career in Indy, and he was a good coach. Thought they overachieved with Carson Wentz who is proving he sucks. I would take him here over Bowles in a second. But then again, who wouldn’t? Rich Kotite looking like a better option than Bowles.

If Irsay actually gives Saturday the job, then he might officially be the second worst owner in the league behind Snyder.

I think concussion protocol is there for putting you on the list for early disability - if needed.

I like Todd too. I’ve just always been a Kellen Moore fan. But he may become a HC before he even interviews anywhere for an OC job.
