You're changing a huge part of the game and how a lot of these guys make a roster.

Honestly at this point, just do away with the middleman. Be done with kickoffs. That's what they want to do anyway. Offense gets the ball on the 25. And instead of the Onside Kick, just do that "One Play, 4th and 15" thing that's been discussed for years. It'd be 10x more exciting than onside kicks anyway.
Go away with the kickoff and give the scoring team the ball on their own 30, make it 4th and 15. Either go for it or punt.

The league is doing it already.

I'm curious what the conversion rate on 4th and 15 would be. For a team with an elite offense, they would have to like their odds a hell of a lot more than they would an onside kick.

Tell me that scenario isn't 10x more exciting than the onside kick as well. And it wouldn't be a bounce of the ball deciding the outcome either. The offense brings their best play for long yardage. The defense brings their best play to stop it. The better team wins.

I didn't know offhand, so I looked it up.

Per The Sporting News (source below), the conversion percentage for fourth-and-15 is nearly 22%, which surprised me. By comparison, onside kicks are about 5%.

I think that's a tempting enough carrot for teams to take. It's a low percentage, sure, and if you don't convert you basically guarantee at least three points to the other team. But if you have faith in your 4th-and-15 package and/or your fake punt game, it could flip the whole script of the game.

Two of the best plays in the game imo are 4th and long attempts and fake punts, and increasing the likelihood of them happening is only a win as far as I'm concerned.

Moreover, kickoff returns are dying. Replacing them with a special teams alternative via punting would be a win imo, while also opening a reasonable but risky door for the kicking team to maintain possession.

I see pass interference and defensive holding calls becoming an even bigger part of the game with this idea

It's a fair point, but I'd still argue the pros outweigh the cons.

This should be a much larger story than it is. The majority of NFL stadiums aren't owned outright by the teams playing in them. The Vikings now outright own their stadium AND their tax payers aren't footing the bill for things like interest, stadium upkeep and security.

If nothing else, it's something some of us with mortgages and car payments should keep in mind...pay down the principle whenever you can.

Ed Oliver got a nice deal - 4/68. He hasn't quite been what his fans (like me) thought he'd be coming into the league. He's been good, sometimes great, but not dominant. This is a good deal for him and considering where the market is headed on plus defensive linemen, not a bad value for the Bills.

I'm wrong about LOTS of draft prospects (though not as many as some of the dudes making seven figures!)

I wouldn't say I was wrong about Oliver. He's a really good player. But I thought he'd be at least at that Gerald McCoy/Tommie Harris kinda level.

He's fallen victim to the mythical perception that RBs have little value in this league and are easily replaced. Cook had a great season. He's honestly been an elite level RB for the past 4 years. The Vikings are simply predicting that he'll have a downfall this season. That's all.

The Falcons duet of Tyler Allegheirerersdf and Cordarrelle Patterson was significantly better than Cook last year, despite his great season. Maybe think on that point for a moment.

And clearing $9M in cap space. Surprised they weren't able to trade him for something.

Glad they won't have him week 1.

What is the topic? How Dalvin Cook's a stud but the Vikings (plus the other 31 teams who wouldn't offer a 7th for him) haven't figured out what you have about Cook's irreplaceable production?

People generally disappear from here for 3 reasons.

1. They tire of arguing the same shit day after day.

2. They get suspended or banned.

3. They die.
