The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
If shooting low on QBs is the way to deter it, do that.
I’m sick of protected class of player. You’re on the field, you can get hit.
Just start playing 7-on-7. It’s the destiny of the league anyway.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Correct, the way they are executing it often isn’t legal. It’s on the refs to ensure the players are set.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
While I can appreciate where you are coming from, unfortunately your point is fared outweighed by the fact that QB is the most important position in the game and thus to the quality of the game and the money bag.
It's no denying the playoffs would've been better with Lamar and Tua. Jimmy or Purdy too. By a mile.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
If that’s the logic, just make quarterbacks two hand touch to be downed so they don’t get hurt.

They converted 90.7% of the time last season, which is crazy.Bootz wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 1:42 pmNobody could stop it all year long.BucsNBills wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 10:13 am The Chiefs couldn't stop it, so the play must go away....

Like the players said in this article, once DC’s decide to stop it, the QB is getting hurt. Then, of course, the league will step in “for the good of the game.”

I know that lately, Rugby-style scrums have been common, but only in the last few years. Sooner or later, Hurts is gonna get seriously injured. The pads and protection that he wears are designed for impact protection. The QB-sneak scrum is going to cause a crush injury.Buc2 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 2:26 pm Steelers' Cam Heyward: Eagles unstoppable QB sneak is 'illegal'

Derek Carr to Jets?
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Eric Bieniemy going to Washington Is interesting. We’ll see how good he is without Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
He might end up fired if and when Snyder sells the team. I would assume that the new owners will throw away anything that has Snyder's stink on it.
It is also possible thae Rivera gets fired and Bieniemy gets promoted. I'm hoping for this scenario.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Why are you hoping for that?

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
What's sad is that if Rivera does get replaced by Bienemy it will be celebrated as a win for diversity even though he'd be replacing an even less represented group in the NFL.
Oh well, not like Hispanic people ever counted when it comes to filling diversity quotas.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I'm not thinking of it in terms of diversity. I just think Eric deserves a shot at HC.BucsNBills wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:19 pmWhat's sad is that if Rivera does get replaced by Bienemy it will be celebrated as a win for diversity even though he'd be replacing an even less represented group in the NFL.

Im not either, but I know damn well the sports media will make it exactly about that, disrespecting both coaches in the process.Moozician wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:27 pmI'm not thinking of it in terms of diversity. Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
It's disgusting that he has to take a lateral move yet somehow isn't good enough to be a HC apparently. But guys like Joe Judge, Jeff Saturday, and Zac Taylor even can get hired without being coordinators. In Saturday's case not even being a coach of any type.Moozician wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:27 pmI'm not thinking of it in terms of diversity. I heard something about Bienemy being a douchebag or a weirdo or something.Bootz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:43 pmIt's disgusting that he has to take a lateral move yet somehow isn't good enough to be a HC apparently. I think we're way past him being passed over because of color.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Bad legal/allegation history + abrasive personality is what I’ve read/heard. Also struggles to articulate the 30k foot view required for HCs.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Yea a douchebag that got an OC job with another NFL team and interviews with multiple teams annually._MB_ wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:48 pmI heard something about Bienemy being a douchebag or a weirdo or something.Bootz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:43 pm

If you knew he was a douche, guaranteed that NFL teams would know.

And that scandal hasn’t stopped him from being interviewed, employed, and hired by multiple NFL franchises.

So it's just color then?
Sorry. I just don't see it that way. A blemish can follow anybody and hold them back.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Except that said blemish hasn’t been a problem with getting him NFL jobs. Nor has it stopped teams from interviewing him for these jobs. Again, if you know about these blemishes, guarantee you NFL teams know. Unless you’re saying multi-billion dollar franchises don’t know about any of these blemishes before they speak to him…

Source; Expect the Lions to make a run at Jalen Ramsey, It was no coincidence Amon-Ra St.Brown openly recruited Ramsey on his podcast. Source told, Detroit Lions News Podcast, “Lions players like Goff and Michael Brockers have been in contact with Ramsey saying ‘This is where you need to be’ — Will the Lions make the deal, unsure what Holmes is thinking at this point, but the belief is that Holmes will make a run at Jalen Ramsey.

Sean Payton with Rex Ryan? Interesting combosFormer Jets and Bills HC and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan interviewed Saturday in Denver for the Broncos DC job. Ryan and former Broncos HC Vance Joseph are amongst a handful of candidates for the job; Ryan has told ESPN he would only leave the network “for the perfect situation.”
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I assumed they knew each other since Rob used to coach for Payton. Of course, Payton fired Rob so I'm kinda surprised Rex would go work for him.Phantom wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 11:23 amSean Payton with Rex Ryan? Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Steelers hired Aaron Curry as their new LB coach. Anybody else remember this guy? One of the best college linebackers I've ever seen. 6'2 250 but he moved like a safety. Absolute force of nature at Wake Forest (I got to see him in person in 2007.) I remember he was considered one of the safest top five draft prospects ever. He went #4 overall to the Seahawks. And didn't see the end of his rookie deal.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Remember him like it was 09 all over again. Got sick and tired of hearing the word "safe" when he was being discussed. To me that means a prospect has little to no upside but they are already a great enough player that they are able to step in from day 1 as if they are a 4 year vet. That's rare. Extremely rare. Curry didn't standout enough to warrant that type of designation.MJW wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 12:52 am Steelers hired Aaron Curry as their new LB coach. Anybody else remember this guy? Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Curry doesn't get enough heat for how bad he ghosted as the 4th pick
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
That’s hilarious.
