Damn, wonder if that might cost the Cardinals their #3 pick...

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
They would have to move shockingly fast for that.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Remember when the media was pushing Chase Young as the new great DE/EDGE when he was a prospect? Never trust those assholes. Cut to years later. the team isn't sure they'll even pick up his 5th year option.
my thoughts on him back at BZ.
His stats:
So, 7.5 sacks his rookie season. 1.5 in 9 games his second season. and a total of 12 games played in the last 34 games. WOW!
my thoughts on him back at BZ.
Chase Young never looked good when I watched him. Joey Bosa is one of the best edge prospects I’ve watched intently So people saying Young is in a better class above him are ridiculous I think. Bosa also moved insanely well at the combine in all drills including coverage. Young didn’t even show up. Clearly I’m missing something.
Young’s build doesn’t seem optimal to be a pass rushing specialist edge. He’s got super long legs. Grasshopper like. He can’t get low enough and leverage people. So he tries to move people with his upper body. Which, as we know doesn’t really work against competent OTs. He’s clearly strong and can tackle position guys and QBs but he lacks bulk to manhandle linemen. He’s not #1 pick explosive so he can’t just run past people.
@Cheb also predicted he would bust.Chase Young:
Unless he makes some strides this year, idk if I see it. He's on top of most amateur boards. I've watched my fair share of OSU games and he didn't stand out to me though he did accumulate 9.5 sacks.

Yeah. Seems pretty short sighted to pile on. Give him a chance to put in a full season.

I was hoping for it. I think it’s pretty apparent at this point that they don’t believe in him.acmillis wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 4:11 pmSigned,Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 2:54 pm Yeah. Seems pretty short sighted to pile on. Give him a chance to put in a full season.

You knew that 3 months ago where they opted to play Blaine Gabbert for the majority of a meaningless game. Those of us actually paying attention knew it when they opted to re-sign Gabbert and keep him as Brady's primary backup.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:21 pmI was hoping for it. You mean they chose to let the guy on the final game of his contract have a shot to prove himself to the team and to the market?Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:25 pmYou knew that 3 months ago where they opted to play Blaine Gabbert for the majority of a meaningless game. Which of the two is still on our roster?
Trask confirmed bust
Still in disbelief a 2nd round pick who had to sit beneath Tom Brady has been written off entirely because the team chose to backup Brady with a veteran.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Gabbert is still unsigned. Still on the couch.
Prove himself to the market? Dude was a ten year vet with tons of starts. Teams know what he is.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
It’s either
A. Let our veteran backup get in reps before playoffs/his contract is up
B. Trask was so bad, screw giving him reps just toss in Gabbert
I personally think A is the obvious answer
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Some people really see things cut and dry like a Madden franchise. No nuance to that actual game.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Why does it matter if he’s a veteran if he’s fucking terrible? Because he’s fucking terrible. Teams don’t care if a guy is a veteran. If he’s fucking terrible. They will play the younger guy over the veteran. If the veteran is fucking terrible. The only reason the younger guy won’t play, is because the younger guy is even more fucking terrible. Or, leadership is composed of a bunch of incompetent morons. Both things are actually possible, in this case.

This is smart by Hill.
Plan ahead. Miami has 3 full years to get it done.

"Nuance" in this case is code for, "You're using common sense and I don't want to, so I'm going to pretend there's some mystical unquantifiable element to this discussion that you're simply not enlightened enough to understand but I am."

And let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I got to go..."

Mayfield from OU goes #1 Overall. These Are The Days wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 6:10 pmI am so happy for him. This is fantastic news for Hurts. In other news, Lamar Jackson's day is about to get as fucked up as the Death Star blasting Alderaan
Next year, Murray from OU goes #1 Overall.
Next year, Hurts from OU goes in the 2nd Round. And is clearly the best of the three.
The NFL Draft has a sense of humor sometimes.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
An OBJ contract that would make sense would be say $6M bonus, $2M if 60% of games, $2M for 80%, $1M for AFCCG, $3M for SB. $14M tops.
Also, I expect Rodgers to happen on draft day. I think they have a trade in place, but it plays to Packers to not pull it off until they are to be on the board.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I'm so incredibly tired of hearing about OBJ and everyone acting like he's still the same guy he was 5 years ago. He hasn't had more than 537 yards in a season since 2019. He hasn't played a full season since 2016. He also relies heavily on his quickness/agility to beat coverage and he's now had multiple major knee injuries.
I still think he can be a useful player, and there is potential for a CPOY type season somewhere. But he's no longer a young guy (he'll be 31 during this next season) and he's never going to be what he was. It's also forgotten now that he was a brat and the Giants took a huge cap hit just to unload him less than a year after giving him a huge extension.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I think everyone, even him, knows this. But the optics of an Aaron Rodgers/OBJ team will lead to nothing but daily headlines, ESPECIALLY in New York, asses in seats, andMJW wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 5:25 pm I'm so incredibly tired of hearing about OBJ and everyone acting like he's still the same guy he was 5 years ago. most importantly the Jets being seen as the superior team to the Giants.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
for that inevitably beautiful trainwreck.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
It's not about that. No one is expecting OBJ to carry your team. He's in that Gronk, AB, luxury territory- it's about the edge they can offer you any given playoff down.
It's like when people were crying about Gronk and how much he could play, but what mattered was does he give us that much more of a chance to win the day. And he did. He got 2 TDs in the SB. AB and OBJ each caught a TD pass in their SBs too.
OBJ was already a shell, but we still saw what he could do for the Rams any given play. We was still shaking people. But that was also all pre this last injury.

That's fine, it's the fact they're still hyping him like he can carry your team that's getting old.
