I'd go CJ Stroud. After seeing Tua break apart like a piece of brittle China, taking Bryce Young who is even more frail than Tua seems like a recipe for disaster.

Yup, this… Colts will most likely take Young
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
He is quite diminutive, but we don’t know if he’s frail yet. Tua had a lot more injuries coming out of college.

Thinking Rappaport got the real timing and Schefter got the PR damage control version of events.

That's exactly how it seems now that you mention it. Schefter kinda gives it away with the "it's all coincidental".BucsNBills wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 5:06 pmThinking Rappaport got the real timing and Schefter got the PR damage control version of events.

Broncos didn’t want to give up the compensation. But when Ryans fell through, they felt like they had no choice. It’s a good hire…just a lot for a coach. But Payton is one of the few out there I would trust that can fix Russell Wilson.

The Bucs have had 4 head coaches of color. Has any other NFL had as many? How many NFL teams have never hired a HC of color?

It is actually kind of an interesting question; I would like to know what team(s) has not hired a HC of color.

I get that, it's just that unprompted discussions involving race taking place in general threads rarely goes well.Digital_Damage wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 7:14 pmIt is actually kind of an interesting question; I would like to know what team(s) has not hired a HC of color.

The Texans’ last two coaches before Ryans were African American too. Unless we don’t want to count them since they were basically one and done pupppet coaches that got hired to take Ls in a rebuild.King Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 7:26 pm Falcons

Whoops, the last 2 years happened so fast it bypassed me lol.
In all seriousness though, this kinda shows what @The Outsider said is right. People get very uncomfortable and defensive about these discussions and lash out. I name 12 teams, 11 of which have never had a minority coach and 2 consecutive posters only want to highlight the 1 mistake as a way to deflect from having that discussion. It's a tried and true defense mechanism people with inherent biases and prejudices resort to.

When you truly have no direction and are still looking for one. 12 hour interviews? Really?
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I mean if you are talking about a grand plan for a team, sure, you could easily chat for 12 hours. We spent 12 hours on nine Kyle Trask plays.

It reeks of, "You remember how I gave that one guy the job a few months ago with no due diligence? HOW DO YOU ASSHOLES LIKE THIS?!"King Bootz wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 11:51 am When you truly have no direction and are still looking for one. 12 hour interviews? Really?
And when he ends up hiring Saturday anyway...

Am I an asshole for wanting the Colts to hire Saturday just for the chaos? The meltdown people had when he got the interim job was hilarious (justified, but still hilarious) and I can’t imagine what it would be like if they actually hired him full time even after all the backlash turned out to be justified.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Derek Carr has said he will not extend the Feb. 15 deadline for the $40.4 million injury guarantee clause in his contract.
In other words, the Raiders have to trade Carr before Feb. 15. Carr has a no-trade clause, so in other other words, he will not be getting traded, instead forcing his release. “I don’t think that would be best for me,” Carr said matter-of-factly. He is correct. Carr has zero reason to play ball with the Raiders, and though the remaining money on his deal is lucrative, he will make even more as a free agent in this quarterback-starved league. The Raiders threw Carr under the bus on the way out the door. He is reclaiming some dignity now.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I've hated seeing this since defenders started doing this in recent years. This technique is not taught at any level of football. Rugby has seen these type of tackles rise recently and have had injuries from them rise as well. Get rid of it.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Dear lord, the pussification of the game continues.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
This isn't exactly a new technique. It's one of the better ways to tackle a ballcarrier when you are behind him; wrap him up and drop your body to drag him to the ground. It arrest his forward momentum far more than just swiping a leg or any other posterior techniques.King Bootz wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 4:25 pm

If it leads to injury then I understand trying to avoid it. But at the same time, this isn't like those horse collar tackles than ruined Bo Jackson's and Cadillac Williams' careers. As far as I know, these hip-drop types of tackles cause ankle sprains, hardly debilitating injuries. And they happen all the time.
Let's say I'm chasing down a ballcarrier from behind and wrap him up around the waist. I strain to pull him backwards but slip, which causes my body to fall. Do I now get penalized for a hip-drop tackle?
This is going to make tackling definitely harder, and just takes another tool out of defender's toolboxes to get ballcarriers to the ground. I'm all about player safety, but this feels like it's a bit much.

They’ve already made tackling really difficult.
They should get rid of turf if they care about injuries.

Yeah it's already unfair for defenders so removing this tackle not only exacerbates the advantage offense has, but can you imagine the nightmare of actually enforcing this?Cheb wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:28 pmThis isn't exactly a new technique. Hell, the 49ers literally declined to get a safety on Dak because he was too afraid of getting a roughing call.
This shit has to stop. Football is not a safe game. That's what the money is for

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
It's not a technique at all. I was never taught this when I played from little league to college. This is more of a rugby style. I've never seen this taught as a way to tackle a ball carrier and it wasn't very prevalent in football until recent years.Cheb wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:28 pmThis isn't exactly a new technique. This tackle caused the injury in the picture, Tony Pollard's broken leg. It also caused Dak Prescott's broken ankle from a few years ago, as well as Mahomes recent high ankle sprain and a number of other injuries.
