That week off is vital to the league, teams in the SB, their fans, and the city hosting the game. There so much preparation that goes into the Super Bowl that doesn't begin until after the Championship games. Tickets have to go out to the winning cities fans, they have to buy them, make travel plans, boarding accommodations. The league has countless events for donors, charities, fans, media, etc. And yes, the Pro Bowl plays a huge part as well. It's a money maker for the league, which is why the event still occurs albeit without the game going forward.

Anyone trying to make the Super Bowl seem like "just another game" is kidding themselves.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would like to have a word with you.

More often than not, there hasn’t been a week off before the superbowl. Relatively speaking, it’s a new concept.

Yet another lie from @acmillis. You really don’t know how to tell the truth, do you?
The two-week break before the Super Bowl started with Super Bowl I,” Greg Aiello, an NFL spokesman, told the Guardian. “The concept was to give the promotion of the game time to build. The two-week break has been standard procedure since the first Super Bowl. There have been one-week breaks a handful of times when circumstances dictated it. Another benefit is that it gives the two teams more rest and recovery from injury.”
Here’s the full article.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/ ... k-fans-nfl

Additionally, there have been 56 Super Bowls played. 6 of 56 have been played the week after the conference championship games. The last time it happened was 20 years ago, Bucs vs Raiders. You embarrass yourself with each lie you tell.

The Bengals are sounding very whiny about the potential playoff changes. They have nothing to bitch about. They were handed a division title. If they lose to Baltimore and the Broncos somehow beat the Chargers, the Bengals are guaranteed their home game. The Ravens were really the only team robbed here. They weren't given a chance to compete for their division title.

Awesome

Put yourself in his shoes. All he knew is that he was making a routine play and then he wakes up in a hospital, finding out that the NFL, the whole sports world and even beyond has revolved around his well being. That would have to be an overwhelming feeling.

Extremely well said. I'm thankful that he was able to not only wake up but also be fully aware of the situation and able to communicate his feelings about it.

The outpouring and compassion towards this young man is amazing. What's even more amazing is that players and coaches are openly praying on the field... something that the media had mocked certain players in the past for doing.

Neither, they're both self-serving and despicable. But Tracie Canada doesn't post on this forum.

The boundless depths of mindlessness in that article are impressive, not in a good way. It gives me a headache that people that numbingly stupid are allowed to walk around in public. Woe be to the poor souls who are so unlucky as to have a chance to make tens or hundreds of millions of dollars for playing a game for a few years. All the rest of us would be so cursed for such an opportunity.

People that stupid really just need to be sent to Mars for a colonization attempt. Or somewhere further away. With not enough fuel to return.

I would suspect, as great as this news is, especially considering so many of the alternatives, that, even if he gets back out on the field, he will never be subconsciously capable, regardless of the conscious efforts, of carrying out his duties fully again. Others will look upon the circumstances of this fluke incident and will think, "oh hell no, that'll never happen to me!" And they would probably be correct. But my young namesake will always, ALWAYS, have that floating around in his head and will likely pull up at the last second, (I know Ilikely would). Granted, over time the incident will fade back into the "yeah, but" realm, but these guys typically don't carry a Brady-esque longevity. I wish him all of the best as he moves forward in life, but I will be surprised if playing a high-impact activity will fit into it long.

Don’t be too sure- the brain, especially of a young one, is enormously plastic and PTSD can be treated. But then again, not everyone is resilient from trauma.
