Jones's tape is far, far more impressive than Johnson's. I would take Jones 10 times out of 10 if both were on the board at #19. Jones's ceiling is a more athletic Orlando Brown Jr. At absolute worst, he'll be a road grader who has to be a sponge is pass protection.Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 11:13 am Speaking of OSU, I'm really starting to like OT Dewan Jones in Day 2. Former basketball player and still a mountain of a man. Move Wirfs over to the left. Jensen at center, and see if we can find two starting guards in Hainsey, Leverett, Goedeke, Stinnie (rs). That could be a pretty darn good line for Bijan to run behind.

If the Bucs move up to 1st overall pick, who you pick?
Re: ***Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread***
Any team trading up 18 spots in the first round is likely only doing so for a QB, especially if they are trading up to number 1.
I think the best player in the draft is Will Anderson by a large margin. I haven't been that impressed by a college defender in a good while. Dude's special.
I would draft Anderson and then be fired for my insolence.

That would certainly count as a Home Run Swing at QB.
Obviously three 1sts would be the start. I'm thinking the bears would want players as well. CD3 could be part of the package.
Eh, the trade package is making my brain hurt. But if Young is as good as everyone says, in a couple of years nobody would even remember what we traded for him.
Re: ***Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread***
Going from 19 to 1 would take a lot. I looked back at recent drafts to see if there were any similar trades and didn't have to go back too far. 2016, the Titans traded their #1 pick to the Rams for their 15th overall pick(The Jared Goff deal). The Rams gave up the following:BucsNBills wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 7:46 pmThat would certainly count as a Home Run Swing at QB.

#15, 2 2nd round picks, 1 3rd round pick in 2016.
1 1st & 1 3rd in 2017.
Now we don't have 2 2nds, just 1. But all things considering that's a fair deal both ways. So if I had to assume based off what we have and going back 4 additional spots what a package would be, I'd assume the following:
#19, our 2nd, our 3rd, CD3 in 2023
1st & 2nd in 2024
2nd in 2025
Would you say yes to this deal?

To jump to 1 is for a QB and I just don't see any of these guys like that. Don't get me wrong, it's a great class and they could be great, but I don't have trade away the farm confidence in picking which one. Young is generational, in both the good and bad way. Stroud lacks poise and comes from OSU. Levis throws some Winston like passes sometimes. And Richardson needs a lot of work as a passer. Any of these guys could make it big, some with more development time than others, and any could easily flunk out.
I'd much rather trade up for a slam dunk I'm confident in. Anderson, Carter, Branch, Robinson, Witherspoon.
Re: ***Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread***
Obviously depends on who’s there at 19, but I think we might see another trade back from Licht. We don’t have a 4th rounder this year, and need cheap rookies to fill out the roster. Don’t be surprised if we move back again

Re: ***Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread***
What's your guess at signing the 19th pick cost wise? I've seen sims where they offer a 2nd rounder and a 2024 1st for our 19th and 155th.
That would make a gap from 82nd to 175th - then 2 6th and 7th rounders. This is why I said we need to go all out in regards to priority free agents.
Do all this and we are in much better shape in 2024.

In the event that happened, would we even use him properly as a 3 tech? Or would Bowles stick him out to rot as a 5 tech eating up blocks?
Re: ***Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread***
Carter and Tuli? Sheesh, hadnt even thought of that one. A four man rush that get's home totally changes this defense - the secondary suddenly can be play making superstars without having to be first rounders that you won't be able to afford on a 2nd contract.

I've watched a ton of Tuli...IMHO he's fool's gold. Nearly all of the plays he makes are coverage plays or offensive players redirecting into his path because of someone else's penetration. There's a reason he's 6'4 290 with good athleticism, huge numbers, and he's maybe a 2nd round prospect instead of top ten.mdb1958 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 11:17 am Carter and Tuli? Seems he was drinking and racing and the other driver crashed and two people died. Very serious situation but not sure it makes him undraftable. If he’s there at 19 I hope we did a character background on him as he’d be an interesting choice.

There's no need to attack your weak argument. You're a Michigan guy. Your entire "argument" is Stroud will bust because of what school he goes to, which is Ohio State. It's a joke argument that I treated as such.Cheb wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:51 amWhen you can't attack an argument, whatabouting is a poor substitute. But I'll play your game.
In short, who knows what would have happened if Burrow had stayed at OSU, but if we think about it, it's probably not great for him.
Prior to transferring to LSU, Burrow lost the OSU QB battle to Haskins in 2018. Haskins left in the draft after that year, so Joe woulda had a shot at the job in 2019. But off the top rope comes Justin Fields from Georgia. If Fields had still transferred for Georgia to Ohio State at that time, there's a non-zero chance that Burrow loses that competition as well. In such a universe, Joe Burrow never gets a chance to show his skills on a college field for any period of time and enters the draft with a very slim resumè. Hence why he transferred, so he could play.
Could that alternative universe Joe Burrow have been the next Matt Cassel, a collegiate career backup who made good as a journeyman backup and occasional starter in the pros? Maybe. Would he be guaranteed to be Joe Burrow, Number One Overall Pick and Savior of the Cincinnati Bengals, had he stayed at Ohio State? Probably not.
Going to LSU with Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase and those other weapons on that team in that spread offense at that moment was serendipitous for all involved, lightning in a bottle. And sometimes you have to leave a place in order to thrive.
Heck, look at Jameson Williams, who couldn't even see the field at Ohio State -- transfers to Bama, becomes an All-American in a year, and becomes the 12th overall pick in his draft. Had he stayed at OSU, who knows what woulda happened.

Re: ***Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread***
I'm just pointing out a historical trend. Sometimes these trends are positive, like most defensive backs from LSU or linebackers from Alabama turning out pretty good. Sometimes they are bad, like no QB from Ohio State being worth the draft pick since Tom Tupa, who was primarily a punter in the pros -- though admittedly Fields is still a young buck with promise and I'm a fan of his.Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 10:01 pmThere's no need to attack your weak argument. These are not definitive or absolute, but they are data points. Besides, a little loathing for your rival's QBs is only natural, right?
