Buckeye QBs don’t transition well to the NFL. Here’s hoping the Panthers draft Stroud

I had this fleeting thought where they draft Mayer and then just wallop people in the run game, but that really seems like a waste of resources. I’d bet on him being a ten year vet as much as anyone though.

Then Kincaid entered my mind as another receiving threat. But, he seems bust-ish to me with the lack of blocking ability.

I really think they just need to hope for one of the tackles. Immediate need meets best player meets best chance for long term starter impact.

Let's assume 4 QBs go before us. So can we get a big board of at least 15? I've got 12 I'd be very happy with:

Anderson, Carter, Bijan, Branch, Peter, Paris, Broderick, Anton, Gonzalez, Witherspoon, Nolan, Ojulari...

What board you looking at? Is it the only one you want to look at?

Fanspeak has 11 different boards or should I say prospect lists. Then there is PFF and PFN. NFL draft fan nation, tankathon, cbs.

I think Tyree would excel here - I'd want him and his 36 inch arms over all of them.

No. 3: Hendon Hooker, Tennessee

“Why is this guy not getting more buzz? What is there not to like? … All I know is I saw a really good-looking, on the money, pocket passing quarterback who makes great decisions, and like C.J. Stroud, is way more athletic than people are giving him credit for. And where he might be even better than C.J. Stroud, and definitely better than Bryce Young, is his ability to see over the line and throw over the line…Totally unaffected by the pass rush. That’s where I give him tons of credit. Decision-making, that’s another one where I go it’s really off-the-charts good. The amount of NFL, high-level throws. I just mean in the pocket, 12-yard out route. In the pocket, trash around you, 15-yard in-cut…he does all of that. That’s where I loved Hendon Hooker. His motion is not my favorite. He’s a natural thrower of the football, but his motion is a little too vertical…There’s the ACL and the age thing, that’s the concern with Hendon Hooker. If you’re going off film, I don’t know how he’s not in the top quarterback conversation.” - Chris Simms

Latest Daniel Jeremiah mock on NFL.com has Will Levis dropping to us at 19. I'd be down for that.

Not all teams just take a QB because they need a QB.

Your staff needs to actually like and believe in the guy on the board.

Didn't Vegas sign Jimmy G to a decently large contract? And Atlanta might like Ridder or not want to pass on a very good player for the chance at drafting the 4th best QB.

Who knows.

In the event Levis is there at 19 I think his upside warrants the selection and if we whiff, well it's only the 19th selection, so no big loss.

That system definitely inflated Hooker a bit. The super wide sets and up tempo caused a lot of confusion leading to big separation and even wide open guys. Not to say Hooker can’t make tight window throws like he’ll have to in the NFL. He just didn’t have to in college.

I thought that comment or at least the wording of it from Simms was odd. Hooker made NFL type throws. 12 yard out. 15 yard in. BUT, they weren’t in tight windows.

Another mock. 12 formation all day with crazy run blocking additions in Jones and Bergeron. LaPorta is a nice compliment to Otton as he gives us a much faster option at TE. And Perry gives us an outside WR threat which we currently lack outside of Evans.

Two trade ups and no Branch or Bijan? I could scream.

I actually have a feeling Levis will end up being the best QB in this draft.

Mine was done on auto by PFN, it's the only one I know of that will do that and as much as I like that player I would not do that trade (which was for our 2nd). However I would have done a 2nd in 2024. Maybe? I keep trying to configure for (Tuli) because I think he could be a key piece for a four man rush.

Tyree and Tuli would be an utter miracle.
